Two in hospital after arson attack in Armagh city
The incident happened at an establishment in the Irish Street area of the city at around 8.55pm on Monday.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said officers were at the scene on Monday night.
'Officers received a report of a fire shortly around 8.55pm,' they said.
'They were in attendance alongside colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire Rescue Service who extinguished the blaze.
'Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries.
'A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time.'
Newry and Armagh MP Daire Hughes condemned a 'frightening incident'.
'This was a frightening incident for those in the vicinity, and I want to commend the swift response from emergency services,' the Sinn Fein representative said in a post on X.
'Police will remain in the area over the coming hours as their investigation continues.
'My thoughts are with anyone who may have been injured or impacted by this incident.'

Car driven into man on busy high street as three arrested & cops launch urgent appeal
THREE people have been arrested after a car was driven into a man following a violent altercation. The horror smash happened in Bethesda, North Wales, yesterday afternoon. After an altercation between four people broke out a car was ploughed into one of the men involved. Emergency services raced to the scene and the injured man was rushed to hospital. Three others were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody. Police said a 19-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman were all arrested. The injured man was treated in hospital and has since been released. Detective Inspector Chris Burrow of North Wales Police said: "We are aware of distressing footage of this incident circulating online and I would urge members of the public not to share these videos further. "There has been an increased police presence in the area today whilst we located the remaining suspect who has now been arrested. " Officers will remain in the area for reassurance purposes. "Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist our enquiries should contact police if they haven't already done so.'
