Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sells 3.3 million copies after 33 days
One of 2025's breakout hits has hit an apt sales milestone, as developer Sandfall Interactive discusses its next game.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is already a frontrunner for game of the year, but it's also one of the unexpected hits of 2025.
The French turn-based role-player is developer Sandfall Interactive's first game, albeit one with an oddly impressive voice cast, including Daredevil's Charlie Cox, Andy Serkis, Jennifer English, and Ben Starr from Final Fantasy 16.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 surpassed one million units sold within three days following its launch on April 24, but now it's hit a very apt milestone 33 days later.
As highlighted by the game's X account on Tuesday, May 27, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now sold 3.3 million copies after 33 days.
'Seriously,' the post reads. 'As of today. We couldn't make that up. Another entry on the long list of surreal moments that your support has made real. Thank you ALL. Tomorrow comes.'
It's an impressive milestone for a new IP, and one which doesn't include the game's Game Pass numbers. For comparison, Persona 5, a Japanese role-playing game from an established series, surpassed 3.2 million units sold two years after it released worldwide in April 2017, so it's certainly tapped into an audience beyond the genre's usual remit.

Sandfall Interactive spoke about the game's success in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, where they teased 'great ideas' for the studio's next game.
'The game has had success to an extent that we didn't imagine,' Sandfall's COO and producer, François Meurisse, said. 'We smashed our forecasts pretty fast.' More Trending
Speaking about the studio's next project, he added: 'There will be another video game, for sure. I can't wait to dig more into the ideas we already have for the next game.
'Plus the team has grown up, has acquired new skills throughout production. Many of them were junior when we started. We learned to work together. So I can't wait to get to the next project, because we'll start from a more efficient position than when we started the company five years ago.
'And that [comes] with higher expectations as well, so it will be challenging. But I can say that we have – and [studio head] Guillaume Broche in particular has – great ideas for the next game.'
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available across PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

Filming for the new Harry Potter reboot, which is being adapted for the small screen, is said to be underway, after the three main actors were announced last week Harry Potter reboot is said to be risking backlash from fans as the show films scenes in an "unexpected location". The HBO TV reboot is due to start filming in the Île de Sein off Brittany, despite the story being set in Britain. Producers have reportedly chosen the French location to set scenes for the hit where Hagrid appears to announce: "You're a wizard, Harry." However, the books detail that the hut is located on an island off Cornwall and not France. But, bosses are said to have chosen the different location to portray the iconic scene. However, it's been reported that some of the crew have found the choice amusing as they could've found a suitable place closer to home. The Sun reported that a TV insider said: "This caused a certain amount of amusement among the British crew who all agreed that they could have easily got windswept in virtually any part of the British Isles. They've been slightly bewildered by the fact they've actually gone to France to make a show which is so British — particularly since it's the first place they've gone to and they're doing key scenes there. "For fans it's likely to be a sign that with American producers running the show, it might not be as mindful of Harry Potter as a national treasure that shouldn't be tampered with." Around 30 people are said to be at Pointe du Raz on the west coast of Brittany and have been travelling by boat to the island each day. It's thought that there is a supposedly haunted 19th century lighthouse on the island which might be used as the hut in the TV series. The iconic Harry Potter franchise films were all made in the studio or on location in Britain. Locations such as London, Bath, Durham and the Scottish Highlands were used as filming locations. Warner Bros has invested millions in expanding its studio at Leavesden, near Watford for the filming on the TV reboot. This comes after it was announced last week which actors would be taking on the main three roles in the show - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin would be taking on the lead role previously played in the movies by Daniel Radcliffe. He will be working alongside fellow rising stars Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Hagrid, which was previously played by late actor Robbie Coltrane, will now be taken over by Nick Frost instead. Albus Dumbledore will be played by actor John Lithgow will be the wizard school's headmaster Albus Dumbledore and Paul Whitehouse will appear as Hogwarts' caretaker Argus Filch.

The President responded: "Make sure the door remains closed." His advice was met with laughter in the Oval Office where he was holding a good-bye press conference for departed DOGE head Elon Musk. Trump, who has been married three times, also joked about Macron: "That was not good. "I spoke to him." He said: "He's fine. They're fine. They're two really good people. But Macron slammed claims that the pair were in a heated argument and instead said they were joking around. He then appeared to laugh off the viral incident by creeping his hand round the corner of his jet's entrance for a brief, mocking wave as he prepared to be welcomed to Indonesia. "When we see them emerging, there's this attempt to sort of do a glow up, to pretend that nothing happened. "That's not normal body language behaviour in any relationship. I find it very worrying, as well as disturbing." After a brief moment, he walked out into full view at the top of the plane's stairs. But this time, he locked arms with his wife Brigitte as they headed out to greet officials. Macron gave the cameras a thumbs up as the couple began to descend the stairs. Although French officials have dismissed negative speculation, the eyebrow-raising incident is just the latest in a relationship that has been plagued with scandal and controversy. The French president was just 15 years old (which is the age of consent in France) when he met the woman who he would go on to make his First Lady. At the time she was 39 years old and married with three children - and his drama teacher in school. Body language expert Judi James said that Brigette, 25 years Macron's senior, seemingly attacked her husband in a non-playful manner.
