New rideshare-style shuttle service launches in Vista: How to ride
VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The North County Transit District has expanded its on-demand ride service to include the city of Vista, offering residents a personalized transportation option similar to Uber or Lyft.
The shuttle service, called NCTD+, officially launched on Monday in the greater Vista area. It was previously available only in the city of San Marcos.
NCTD+ works like a rideshare service, allowing residents to request rides to a specific destination. Residents can use it as a convenient first and last mile connection while taking other forms of public transit, or as an affordable alternative to roam within community.
The on-demand service is one of a handful launched across the county in the last few months, including one in City Heights and North Park and the city of El Cajon. They join the long-standing shuttle in downtown San Diego, Ride Circuit's Free Ride Everywhere Downtown (FRED).

Unlike some of these other options, however, the NCTD+ shuttle runs seven days a week. Rides can be requested in the app between the hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Each ride costs $3 for the first passenger with an additional $1.50 charged for every extra rider on the same booking. For those just looking to get to and from Sprinter stations, the one-way fare is $1.50. Youth under the age of 18 are eligible to ride free.
The price point, NCTD officials say, makes it an affordable option for large groups looking to take an alternative transit option.
Rides can be requested from most places in the service zone, although some may need to walk a short distance to reach the closest pickup and drop-off spots. These spots are strategically placed near key areas, such as schools, the Boys and Girls Club, shopping centers and the library.
NCTD officials note all rides must also start and end in the service zone. Interactive maps of the zones can be found on the transit district's website or in the NCTD+ mobile app.
FOX 5/KUSI took a ride on the shuttle service Monday morning. The trip was smooth and professional with a friendly driver, Naomi. The vehicle is spacious with plenty of room for families or larger groups.
For those looking to get started with NCTD+, the app is available for download in both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Inside ATL's 24/7 emergency ops center as summer travel season takes off
The Brief More than 2.6 million passengers are projected to pass through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport during the Memorial Day travel period. FOX 5 got a look at the airport's emergency operations hub, which monitors over 3,600 cameras and handles 911 calls, emergencies, and safety issues around the clock. Airport officials say they are fully prepared for the summer surge, with emergency teams on standby and a focus on maintaining situational awareness across ATL's terminals and runways. ATLANTA - Officials are preparing for another potentially record-breaking start to summer at airports like Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. More than 2.6 million people are expected to move through the airport over the next week. FOX 5 got a look inside the airport's operations center, where emergency dispatchers answer 911 calls and handle issues as they arise. What we know As the airlines work full throttle to get planes and passengers moving, emergency dispatchers are on the clock at the airport's operations center. They are the eyes and ears of the world's busiest airport. The team is ready for 911 calls, emergencies, safety issues, and everything in between. "They're trying to help a lady find her phone," one dispatcher said. The airport's operations center monitors more than 3,600 cameras that cover ATL's nearly 200 gates and five runways, 24/7, 365 days a year. What they're saying "It gives us that full situational awareness of everything that's happening around the airport, so we can ensure that we can handle the mass number of people that will come to the airport this week," said Gus Hudson, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's Assistant General Manager of Emergency Management. Hudson oversees this facility and the dozens of people who work there. "We always have something, whether it's an emergency call or a routine call, something is always happening around the airport, and calls are always coming into here," he said. Last year, this operations center handled 911 calls just moments after an incident at Delta's maintenance facility. Two employees died and a third was injured. The team scrambled to dispatch crews as more 911 calls poured in. Hudson says each day is different, but the ops center stands ready. With the summer travel season now here, they're prepared for what's to come. "Safety is our primary responsibility at the airport, and it starts here," Hudson said. What Passengers Are Saying As the airport works to keep people safe, passengers are ready to get out and enjoy the holiday. "I'm going to be just relaxing on the beach with some, like, sangria or something," said April Gatewood. "We're super excited, we're going to Colombia, South America," said Norma Franco.

MCAS Miramar, Camp Pendleton conducting regional antiterrorism exercise
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diegans might observe increased military aircraft and personnel over the next few days as a number of Marine Corps installations are conducting a regional full-scale antiterrorism exercise known as Semper Durus. According to a news release by Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Exercise Semper Durus will last until Thursday. Authorities investigating alleged bomb threat aboard Hawaiian Airlines flight at San Diego airport It will test a variety of scenarios meant to test the region's ability to respond to emergencies, protect infrastructure and defend against unforeseen threats. 'This exercise is essential for validating our installation protection response plans and ensuringour region remains resilient in the face of evolving threats,' said Brig. Gen. Nick I. Brown,Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West – Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.'By training in realistic scenarios alongside our interagency partners, we ensure a unified,coordinated response to any crisis.' Along with MCB Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Stations in Camp Pendleton, Miramar, Yuma and the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow are all participating in the exercise. The public might see an increased military presence in the air and on the ground until Thursday. Authorities say that while there may not be any scheduled gate or road closures during the dates of the large-scale exercise, it may cause some minor traffic delays. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, California Department of Transportation, U.S. Coast Guard, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the San Diego Law Enforcement Coordination Center are also involved in the exercise.
