South Korean duo win Dow Championship to deny Lexi Thompson a long-sought title
MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — Somi Lee poured in an 8-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to team with fellow South Korean Jin Hee Im to win the Dow Championship on Sunday, denying Lexi Thompson her first LPGA title in six years.
Thompson's partner, Megan Khang, had a chance to extend the playoff, but she missed a 5-foot birdie putt that was on the low side of the hole from the start.

LONDON (AP) — Two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur retired during her first-round match Monday after taking a medical timeout, the latest issue for her during an injury-filled season. Jabeur, a 30-year-old from Tunisia, quit playing while trailing Viktoriya Tomova 7-6 (5), 2-0. Jabeur was visited by a trainer in the first set. At one point, she sat on her sideline seat and cried into a towel. 'I wasn't expecting not to feel good. I have been practicing pretty well the last few days. But I guess these things happen,' Jabeur said afterward. 'I'm pretty sad. Doesn't really help me with my confidence and what I keep pushing myself to do even though it was a very tough season for me. I hope I can feel better.' She lost to Elena Rybakina in the 2022 final and to Marketa Vondrousova in the 2023 final. Jabeur also was a finalist at the 2022 U.S. Open, losing to Iga Swiatek. Man United defender Jonny Evans announces retirement and new role with the Premier League club
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United defender Jonny Evans announced his retirement from soccer on Monday, ending a playing career that included three Premier League titles. The 37-year-old Evans will take up a new role at United overseeing loans and player development. 'I want to officially announce my retirement from my playing career, not with sadness, but with pride, gratitude and excitement for the next chapter ahead,' he said. Evans became a free agent at the end of the season following his second spell at United, having graduated through its academy. He also played for West Bromwich Albion and Leicester in a career in which he played 107 times for Northern Ireland. His other major trophies were the FA Cup and two English League Cups. Evans is currently completing his qualifications in coaching. His official title at United is head of loans and pathways. 'Having just finished his exceptional playing career, Jonny is the perfect role model for our young players,' said United director of football Jason Wilcox. 'Jonny's knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Manchester United will be of great benefit to each of them as we continue to develop world-class talent capable of performing in our first team.' Wimbledon brings out David Beckham, Maria Sharapova and other stars on Day 1
LONDON (AP) — David Beckham and Maria Sharapova were among the stars of sports and screen at Wimbledon on Monday for the start of the tournament. Sharapova, the 2004 champion at the All England Club at age 17, posted a selfie with Beckham on Instagram with the caption: 'Let the (Wimbledon) games begin' with an emoji of a tennis balls. Sharapova will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame later this year. Former England soccer captain Beckham was on the list of guests expected to attend Centre Court matches on Day 1. Others included Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne and former England soccer coach Gareth Southgate. Beckham is the only player to score for England at three World Cups. He is the co-owner of American club Inter Miami, which is led by Lionel Messi and was eliminated Sunday from the Club World Cup in the United States with a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
