‘Buli' Pocket Talk At Perlis Connect Educates Students On Dangers, Laws
PADANG BESAR, Aug 16 (Bernama) – The government's commitment to tackling bullying has been translated into action through a pocket talk session titled 'Buli' (Bullying), held as part of the Perlis Connect programme at Padang Besar Street here today. The session, conducted by Inspector Harris Md Noor, Senior Investigating Officer of the Padang Besar District Police Headquarters (IPD), covered the definition of bullying, its various forms, the root causes of such behaviour and the legal provisions related to the offence. Students from several institutions of higher learning who attended said the programme provided them with greater awareness of behaviours that could lead to bullying and how to address them. Nurul Syafiqah Narul Hisam, 19, a Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), said the talk deepened her understanding of bullying and made her more alert to such acts among her peers. 'This session gave me exposure to the dangers of bullying. From now on, I will be more aware, and if I detect any bullying elements, I know the appropriate actions to take. 'I can report it to the Student Representative Council (MPP) for further action, and if it is a serious case, it can be reported directly to the police,' she said. Another participant, Muhamad Haziq Ziqrie Mohamad Aziz, 18, a Foundation in Management student at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah, said the talk not only informed him about the punishments for bullying but also served as a reminder for youths to stay away from such behaviour. 'What I learned is that we should avoid jealousy or inciting our peers to bully those who are weaker. My hope is for young people to be free from bullying and gangster-like behaviour, as it has a lasting impact on victims,' he said. Perlis Connect, a one-day programme organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), was officiated by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Johor Regent aids MACC in Op Sohor smuggling probe
CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed receiving crucial information from Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail in its ongoing Op Sohor investigations. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated the Regent actively supports efforts to combat smuggling at national borders. 'His Royal Highness Tunku Mahkota Johor has been highly cooperative and wants such illegal activities stopped,' Azam told reporters after the Anti-Corruption Graduates Convention (KOMAWAR). He clarified the syndicate operates solely in the southern region, with no recent arrests made. 'If money laundering links emerge involving other beneficiaries, we will expand our probe,' Azam added. The commission is also investigating an online media firm linked to two suspects detained under Op Sohor. 'They worked for an undisclosed company, and we're examining its establishment purpose,' Azam revealed. The suspects allegedly leaked confidential data to the smuggling network. Five senior military officers were arrested earlier for colluding with syndicates to smuggle drugs and cigarettes worth RM5 million monthly. Azam emphasised KOMAWAR's role in educating graduates against corruption and fostering integrity. The biennial programme aims to cultivate youth support for transparent governance. - Bernama

Ceasefire, demining, and stopping online scams top Thailand-Cambodia border talks
Photo: The Nation Thailand/Asia News Network PHNOM PENH/BANGKOK (Bernama): Ceasefire efforts, demining, and cross-border online scams dominated the agenda of the Extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting between Cambodia and Thailand on Saturday in Trat Province. Both parties also agreed to establish a special coordinating group (GC), a key outcome of the meeting, to enhance border communication and prevent armed escalation in disputed areas. "Both sides agreed in principle to establish a coordinating group to enhance communication at all levels, including between commanders, border liaison working groups, standing forces in the border areas, and operational units along the Cambodia-Thailand border, to resolve all issues peacefully and avoid clashes,' said a press statement issued by the Royal Cambodian Army on Saturday. The formation details and functions of the GC will be discussed in the upcoming RBC meeting in Phnom Penh within a month. Cambodia reaffirmed the importance of advancing humanitarian demining at the meeting, but progress depends on the full implementation of the ceasefire and a return to normalcy along the border. "As border demarcation is currently underway, demining can be considered in areas that are demarcated or in non-disputed areas, as agreed upon by the Joint Boundary Commissions (JBC) of the two countries. "Since the RBC does not have the mandate to make decisions on demining, this issue should be addressed at the upcoming GBC Meeting (Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee), which is scheduled to take place soon,' stated the statement. The RBC meeting also discussed the online scams that are affecting both countries, and Cambodia assured to take serious steps to stem the crime. "Cambodia has made significant efforts to combat these issues, working closely with Asean and other international partners, and has achieved tangible results. "Cambodia and Thailand have already cooperated in tackling online scams, and this issue can be further discussed at the upcoming GBC Meeting, as both countries are equally affected,' read the statement. Both parties said they are committed to implementing the outcomes of the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on August 7. - Bernama
