Liverpool Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Land This Atletico Madrid Star: Dream Option For Slot?

Yahoo2 days ago

In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez. It has been stated that the Reds would have to compete with Barcelona and Arsenal in the race to sign the Argentine talent this summer.
Alvarez's Impressive Run Of Form In La Liga
The 25-year-old had a brilliant campaign at the Madrid club after putting in a lot of productive displays for them in the final third. Alvarez banged in 29 goals and grabbed seven assists in 54 matches for Diego Simeone's side last season on all fronts.

The Argentine forward has been a reliable performer up top as he averaged 2.51 shots per game and kept 51.4% of his attempts on target in La Liga. However, Alvarez could improve his link-up play in the opponent's half, based on his pass completion rate of 74.2% in league football (stats via fbref.com).
The Calchin-born talent is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2030. Therefore, Liverpool would have to make a huge offer if they are to stand a chance of recruiting Alvarez this off-season.

Is Alvarez A Dream Option For Liverpool Boss Arne Slot?
Alvarez can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to engineer some promising chances for his teammates up top and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.

The Argentine talent has proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in the final third. He mainly functions as a centre-forward but can also operate as a winger on either flank if told to do so by his manager.
Alvarez already knows the Premier League well from his time at Manchester City. Hence, he won't take much time to adjust to life in Liverpool if they manage to bring him back to England this summer.
Alvarez would add plenty of goals and assists to Arne Slot's attack. He has what it takes to be a regular starter for the Merseyside club over the next few years. Therefore, Alvarez would be a dream option for the Reds to consider in this summer transfer window.

Daywatch: Intuit Art Museum has its big reopening

Good morning, Chicago. Where most museums would open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Intuit Art Museum, following a landmark $10 million renovation, reopened to the public recently with a ribbon-tying. Public officials and other guests turned to their neighbors and connected the ends of their ribbon scraps to create a long, interconnected artwork that will remain in the museum's collection. It was an apt way to ring in a new chapter for this West Town institution. Since its founding in 1991, the museum has collected work by self-taught artists, often called 'outsider art.' Before that, it was called 'art brut' or 'primitive art.' But all those terms are — forgive the pun — on the outs. After receiving a transformative grant from the city's Department of Planning and Development to refurbish its space, Intuit took its facelift as an opportunity to rebrand. What was formerly 'Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art' now avoids the divisive 'outsider' terminology to simply become 'Intuit Art Museum.' It has a catchy acronym to boot: IAM, pronounced 'I am.' Read the full story. And here are the top stories you need to know to start your day, including the latest in the public transit funding debate, what Caleb Williams said about 'evading' the Bears and our picks for dance performances to catch this summer. Today's eNewspaper edition | Subscribe to more newsletters | Asking Eric | Horoscopes | Puzzles & Games | Today in History President Donald Trump has commuted the federal life sentence for infamous Chicago-born Gangster Disciples founder Larry Hoover, abruptly ending Hoover's yearslong quest to win early release under the First Step Act passed during Trump's first term. The controversial move — part of a slew of clemency actions announced by the White House this week — appeared to have already sparked Hoover's transfer out of the supermax prison compound in Florence, Colorado, that he'd called home for the past two decades. But Hoover isn't going free. As Illinois lawmakers continue to work on a spending plan in the final days of the spring legislative session, Gov. JB Pritzker offered no insight yesterday on negotiations but said he'd veto any spending plan that includes 'broad-based' taxes to balance a budget that faces a shortfall estimated at $1 billion. Illinois legislators passed a law yesterday to explicitly prevent police from ticketing and fining students for minor misbehavior at school, ending a practice that harmed students across the state. The legislation comes three years after a ProPublica and Chicago Tribune investigation, 'The Price Kids Pay,' revealed that even though Illinois law bans school officials from fining students directly, districts skirted the law by calling on police to issue citations for violating local ordinances. As the Chicago Bears have waffled over the past year on where to build a new stadium, one constant has been Gov. JB Pritzker's skepticism about providing major public dollars to help fund the project. But during that time, Pritzker has spent $100,000 in taxpayer funds for an outside legal consultant to advise the state in discussions with the team and the Bears have brought on an outside adviser with close ties to Pritzker's political operation and other Illinois Democrats, records show. Illinois lawmakers filed a long-awaited bill yesterday that would reform the Chicago area's public transportation system with changes to its overall governing structure and a new police force to patrol its bus and train lines. But the bill, filed just days before the scheduled adjournment of the spring legislative session, does not include a proposal for how those reforms will be funded as Chicago-area transit agencies face an impending $771 million fiscal cliff at the end of this year. Smokey Robinson sues his accusers for elder abuse, defamation in $500M countersuit

Smokey Robinson has filed a $500 million countersuit against his accusers, alleging elder abuse and defamation in response to their claims of sexual assault. The Motown legend, 85, earlier this month was slapped with a $50 million lawsuit from four women, who claimed to be his former employees, which included numerous disturbing allegations, including sexual battery and assault. In his filing, the 'Cruisin'' hitmaker likened the allegations against him to a shakedown, saying the women made 'gratuitous and slanderous allegations' at a 'media circus' press conference on May 6. 4 Smokey Robinson has filed a $500 million countersuit against his accusers, alleging elder abuse and defamation in response to their claims of sexual assault. Getty Images The singer, born William Robinson Jr., denied any wrongdoing and described the four women — who were his former housekeepers — as his 'extended family.' In legal documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Robinson noted that he and his spouse had gifted the four accusers — who allegedly worked as Robinson's housekeepers between 2012 and 2024 — concert tickets, vehicles and cash during their tenure. The Detroit-born musician also noted that he attended the graduation of one of his former housekeeper's children, and submitted text message evidence showing one of the plaintiff's sending him a friendly message. Elsewhere, his legal team submitted an image of Robinson's wife, Frances Gladney, vacationing in Cabo San Lucas Mexico with another one of the plaintiffs — a vacation for which Robinson footed the bill for, he claims. 4 Robinson's wife, Frances Gladney, was also named in the plaintiff's suit. The four women named the singer in the $50 million lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 6, claiming sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, hostile work environment, and more. Jane Doe 1 — who said she worked as a housekeeper for the couple from Jan. 3, 2023 until February 2024 — claimed she was sexually assaulted by Robinson at least seven times until her resignation. 4 The Motown legend, 85, earlier this month was slapped with a $50 million lawsuit from four women who claimed to be his former employees. The third plaintiff said she had worked for Robinson from February 2012 until April 2024, and alleged she was 'sexually harassed, sexually assaulted and raped' by the musician 'at least 20 times.' Jane Doe 4 claimed Robinson first sexually assaulted her in 2007 and raped her at his temporary residence in Bell Canyon, California, in 2019. All four accusers claimed they didn't report the alleged sexual assaults out of fear of losing their livelihood, public embarrassment, shame and humiliation. 4 In his filing, the 'Cruisin'' hitmaker likened the allegations against him to a shakedown. Getty Images for Elton John AIDS Foundation John Harris, the attorney for the four women, said that they believe Robinson is 'a serial and sick rapist and must be stopped.' 'Having to tell their [spouses] and children of these despicable actions left them filled with shame and embarrassment. So throughout their dreadful experiences with Mr. Robinson, all four women remained silent,' he said in a statement.

Bayern sign Germany defender Tah until 2029

Bayern Munich have signed German international defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga champions announced on Thursday. The 29-year-old has signed a four-year deal which will keep him in Munich until 2029. "I'm very happy to be at Bayern. I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we're successful as a team and win lots of trophies together," Tah said in the club statement. Tah spent a decade at Leverkusen, winning an unbeaten league and cup double in 2023-24. He told Leverkusen he would not be extending his contract beyond 2025 and was given a big farewell at his last home game in May. Bayern were linked with signing Tah in the summer of 2024 with one year remaining on his contract, but the Bavarians refused to meet Leverkusen's asking price. Bayern needed to sign a centre-back after Eric Dier departed for Ligue 1 side Monaco at the end of the season. "In Jonathan Tah we've acquired a player with international experience and quality, who won't need much time to establish himself in our defence," said sporting director Christoph Freund. "He'll be a good and important addition for us with his technical qualities as well as his manner and the way he leads." The Hamburg-born defender, who was also linked with a move to Barcelona where he would have joined former Germany coach Hansi Flick, has played 35 games for the national team since making his debut in 2016. Tah has since established himself at the heart of the Germany defence. He has started all but one of the international games for which he was available since September 2023. He is a member of Julian Nagelsmann's squad to play in the Nations League finals next month. The hosts face Portugal in the semi-finals in Munich on June 4 with the winner taking on either France or Spain in the final at the Bayern home ground three days later. Bayern also tried to sign Tah's club teammate Florian Wirtz but the midfielder now appears likely to move to Liverpool after Leverkusen admitted this week that there is "concrete interest" from the Premier League winners. dwi/bsp
