Enraged students blocked Ashok Rajpath, where B N College is located in Patna, in protest, demanding strict action against the accused. Police, however, are yet to trace the accused.
One of the protesters, Ajay Kumar, said this incident has made it clear that the growing factionalism and violence among students on the college campuses can have serious consequences, "endangering our safety as well as affecting the academic environment".
Another student, Kushal, alleged that the college administration is equally responsible for Pandey's death. "Had they taken an action when a fight broke out on Monday itself, such an incident would not have happened," he said.
After the incident, however, security was tightened on the college campus, when police started an investigation into the matter. The college administration is also investigating the reasons behind this violence separately.
On Tuesday around 12.45pm, two groups clashed over some issue and hurled two bombs on the college campus, as students appeared for Certified Internal Auditor exam. After submitting his papers, Pandey was waiting for his friend in the veranda of the college, when he was hit by a bomb, which bounced back from a wall and the gate grill. He was first taken to nearby Patna Medical College and Hospital, where college principal Rajkishore Prasad met his family and offered financial help, which however, they denied.

The family later admitted him to a private hospital in Kankarbagh, where he was put on ventilator support, and on Wednesday, the doctors declared him brain dead. Following this, his family took him to Rohtas, where he died on Thursday morning.

Cyberattacks: Sebi chief Pandey calls for stronger defence

MUMBAI: With the rising incidents of public falling victims to cyber crimes, Securities and Exchange Board chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has called for constant vigilance, regular incident-response drills, and forensic readiness to protect stock exchanges and investors from such escalating online threats. Speaking at a cybersecurity training programme at the Sebi-run National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) near here on Thursday, Pandey, according to the speech shared by Sebi late last night, warned that even the perception of vulnerability can unsettle markets, irrespective of the immediate financial losses. Recalling the July 2010 Nasdaq breach, where hackers had gained accessed to a system used by corporate boards to share confidential documents, he noted that while trading was unaffected, the incident 'deeply shook the confidence of the market in general and investors in particular.' On July 18, attack a Russian cyber hack had compromised the world's largest tech-stocks listed trading platform primarily targeted the exchange's directors desk portal but not limited to it. Sebi has, in recent years, strengthened cybersecurity norms, mandated regular cyber audits, and tightened reporting on technical glitches across exchanges, clearing corporations, depositories, and market intermediaries, Pandey said, adding 'safeguarding these market utilities is essential for capital formation, investor trust, and economic resilience.' Reeling out the numbers of cyberattacks in the country, he said such attacks are no longer rare as the country has seen over 2 million security incidents in 2024, according to CERT-In, nearly double the pre-pandemic levels. 'A small glitch in a trading algorithm can trigger market disruption in milliseconds. A misconfigured server can give malicious actors a way in. A compromised account can lead to damaging data leaks,' Pandey said, citing the August 2012 Knight Capital trading fiasco that caused $440 million in losses due to faulty trading software.

Fugitive Aman Pandey, who escaped from Deoria jail in 2022, nabbed in Surat: Uttar Pradesh STF tracks him down; used false identity to evade arrest

LUCKNOW: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested Aman Pandey, a fugitive who escaped from Deoria district jail in December 2022, from Surat, Gujarat. The arrest was made on August 13 at Shiv Shakti Society, Bhathena, under Udhna police station limits in Surat. According to SSP, STF, Ghule Shushil Chandrabhan, Pandey, son of Upendra Pandey and a resident of Baraipur village under Rampur police station, Deoria, was lodged in Deoria jail since December 16, 2022, in connection with rape, kidnapping, and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act at Gauri Bazaar police station. On December 29, 2022, he escaped from jail. SSP Ghule said that investigations revealed that on the day of his escape, a man named Upendra visited the jail to meet another inmate. 'When ward staff announced that 'Upendra' had arrived, Aman Pandey falsely claimed that the visitor was his father. Jail personnel escorted him to the visitors' area, where he remained seated until meeting hours concluded. As family members of other inmates were leaving, Pandey mingled with the crowd and walked out unnoticed, successfully breaching the jail's security,' said the SSP STF. Since then, Pandey was absconding, moving between Varanasi, Delhi, and Amritsar before settling in Surat under a false identity. The SSP said that the STF's Varanasi field unit was collecting intelligence on fugitives and reward-listed criminals. A team developed credible information that Pandey was hiding in Surat. Acting swiftly, the team conducted a raid and apprehended him from his rented accommodation in the densely populated Shiv Shakti Society locality. Pandey is being produced before a Surat court for transit remand before being brought back to Uttar Pradesh. Further legal action is underway.
