HPE launches Nonstop Compute NS5 X5 & NS9 X5 for high reliability

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced the addition of the HPE Nonstop Compute NS5 X5 and NS9 X5 to its portfolio of fault-tolerant computing solutions, targeting enterprises that require high reliability and performance for critical business operations.
The new HPE Nonstop Compute models are designed to provide organisations with increased processing power, flexibility, and system availability. Both models, available immediately, introduce enhancements in hardware and networking, aiming to help businesses accelerate important processes and support modern workloads across various data centre environments.
Performance enhancements
The entry-level NS5 X5 uses Intel Xeon Bronze 3400 series processors, while the flagship NS9 X5 is equipped with Intel Xeon Gold 6400 series processors. According to the company, these upgrades allow for up to 15% greater performance capacity compared to prior models. Each platform combines compute, software, storage, networking, and associated services based on HPE's fault-tolerant architecture, aiming to ensure continuous operations for mission-critical activities such as payment processing, fraud detection, and smart manufacturing execution systems (MES).
The new systems provide double the memory capacity of their predecessors, with up to 8 TB available. The NS9 X5 also offers 2.5 times greater networking bandwidth and improved fibre channel connectivity, which facilitates higher transaction throughput in financial services and supports multi-plant integration in manufacturing. "Our customers rely on HPE Nonstop solutions to power mission-critical workloads," said Casey Taylor, General Manager, HPE Nonstop at HPE. "In fact, one of our auto manufacturing customers has been using HPE's fault-tolerant systems for more than 35 years without any unplanned downtime. With the launch of HPE Nonstop Compute NS5 X5 and NS9 X5, we are reinforcing our commitment to deliver an architecture designed for fault-tolerance and high performance so that our customers can scale their businesses and innovate with confidence."
Industry analyst IDC categorises HPE Nonstop solutions as AL4, with reported uptimes of 99.999% or 99.9999%. These attributes are seen as essential by organisations handling core transactions and sensitive data, particularly in sectors reliant on uninterrupted processing such as finance, healthcare, and retail.
Regional outlook "Enterprises across Asia Pacific are rapidly digitalizing critical business operations in sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, retail, and healthcare, which is fueling unprecedented demand for resilient, high-performance infrastructure," said Rod Cortez, General Manager, HPE Nonstop at HPE APAC & India. "The new HPE Nonstop Compute solutions are engineered for this era, delivering enhanced processing power, memory, and networking performance to help organizations modernize workloads and future-proof their data centers. These solutions reflect HPE's commitment to supporting the region's digital transformation by enabling enterprises to accelerate business processes with confidence, agility, and unmatched reliability."
HPE's update also brings operating system enhancements, adding support for multi-factor authentication (MFA). This capability is intended to help organisations meet regulatory compliance needs including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and SOC 2 requirements.
Industry adoption
Many enterprises in industries with strict uptime requirements already rely on HPE Nonstop platforms. According to HPE, a car rental company uses the platform to handle 80,000 daily reservations, while six of the world's top ten full-service retail banks use HPE Nonstop to support card payments, ATM functionality, and core banking operations.
NS9 X5 features backward compatibility, allowing customers to cluster the new system with the previous two generations of HPE Nonstop Compute. This capability ensures seamless expansion and migration for existing users without causing operational disruption.
Both the NS5 X5 and NS9 X5 are available as standalone systems or through HPE GreenLake, offering an as-a-service consumption model. The systems are supported by HPE Nonstop Compute engineers experienced in migrating mission-critical workloads.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has introduced several updates to its NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, aimed at supporting enterprise clients seeking to accelerate agentic and physical AI deployment across a variety of use cases. Server advancements Among the headline updates, HPE has confirmed it will ship new HPE ProLiant Compute servers equipped with NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs. This includes a new 2U RTX PRO Server form factor in the DL385 Gen11 model, as well as an 8-GPU 4U configuration with the DL380a Gen12 model. According to HPE, the DL385 Gen11 supports up to two of the Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, providing an air-cooled solution suitable for datacentres coping with increasing artificial intelligence workloads. Meanwhile, the DL380a Gen12 can accommodate up to eight GPUs in a larger form factor, with shipments scheduled to begin in September 2025. HPE highlighted that the ProLiant Compute servers are purpose-built for handling a variety of tasks, including generative and agentic AI, robotics, industrial automation, visual computing, simulation, 3D modelling, digital twins, and autonomous systems. Security features on the Gen12 models include HPE Integrated Lights Out 7 Silicon Root of Trust and a secure enclave for tamper-resistant protection and quantum-resistant firmware signing. The company states that its server management platform, HPE Compute Ops Management, can reduce IT hours spent on server management by up to 75% and lower downtime by an average of 4.8 hours per server annually. HPE has also indicated that these servers are designed to be flexible and scalable, able to support a growing range of GPU-accelerated workloads across the enterprise. AI development platform HPE Private Cloud AI, a collaborative development with NVIDIA, will incorporate support for the latest NVIDIA AI models. This includes the NVIDIA Nemotron agentic AI model, Cosmos Reason vision language model for robotics and physical AI, and the NVIDIA Blueprint for Video Search and Summarization (VSS 2.4). These additions will allow customers to build and deploy video analytics AI agents that can process extensive volumes of video data and extract actionable insights. The new release promises seamless scalability across GPU generations, air-gapped management, and enterprise multi-tenancy. Continuous integration with NVIDIA technologies will also allow HPE Private Cloud AI to deliver rapid deployment of NVIDIA NIM microservices, with access provided via HPE AI Essentials. The platform is positioned to help enterprises handle increasing AI inferencing workloads while retaining control over their data, supporting high performance and security requirements in demanding sectors. Availability The HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen11 and DL380a Gen12 servers equipped with NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs are currently open for orders, with first shipments expected from September 2025. HPE intends to roll out support for the newest NVIDIA AI models, the Cosmos Reason VLM, and the VSS 2.4 blueprint in HPE Private Cloud AI during the latter half of 2025. The next generation of HPE Private Cloud AI, with Blackwell GPU support, is also slated for release in the same period.

According to the announcement, two main server configurations will be available. The HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen11 server supports up to two NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPUs in the new 2U form factor. The HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 server supports up to eight NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPUs in a 4U form factor and is scheduled to ship in September. These servers are intended to support diverse workloads, from generative and agentic AI to physical AI use cases, which include robotics, industrial automation, visual computing, and simulation. AI uptake accelerates in APAC as ANZ firms face skills shortage

Organisations in Australia and New Zealand are reporting early business gains from artificial intelligence (AI), but significant challenges remain, especially in bridging skills gaps across sectors, according to new research commissioned by Dell Technologies and NVIDIA. AI adoption trends across APAC The IDC analysis, based on surveys across Asia Pacific (APAC), found a rapid acceleration of AI, generative AI (GenAI), and machine learning (ML) adoption in the region. APAC's AI-centric server market is forecast to reach AUD$366 billion by 2025, with 21% of organisations in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) noting measurable improvements from AI and ML deployments. Furthermore, 5% of ANZ businesses identified AI as central to their competitiveness. Spending on GenAI is also gaining momentum. This year, 84% of APAC organisations are expected to allocate between AUD$1.5 to $3 million for GenAI initiatives. Across APAC, 38% of AI budgets are devoted to GenAI, higher than the global average of 33%. Despite the optimism, businesses face difficulties aligning AI initiatives with strategic goals and integrating AI with existing workflows. Deployment strategies and challenges Deployment strategies are evolving, with public cloud (including multicloud) leading in 2024. However, there is rising demand for private and on-premises AI deployments, driven by security, cost efficiency, data sharing, collaboration, and industry-specific needs. Organisations are increasingly adopting specialised AI models and focusing on data security and infrastructure choices across cloud environments. Key challenges for scaling AI and GenAI include rising IT costs, regulatory and compliance risks, and meeting energy efficiency commitments. Skills shortages are cited by over 72% of APAC enterprises as a significant concern, leading to delays in digital transformation and product development. Security and privacy remain critical considerations, with organisations turning to external service providers for support in AI system security, infrastructure modernisation, and workforce training. Approaches to AI adoption The report notes that APAC organisations are generally following a structured, phased approach to AI adoption, targeting high-impact use cases to deliver measurable benefits while mitigating risks. Priorities include investing in suitable infrastructure, fostering AI-centric teams, aligning AI strategies with business goals, and implementing robust data governance frameworks. Australian and New Zealand businesses are placing increasing reliance on external experts to tackle skills shortages and build scalable infrastructure. Across APAC, 60% of businesses rely on external developers for AI applications, with 30% developing AI in-house and 10% using commercial off-the-shelf solutions. Partnerships with technology providers have become essential for roadmap development, infrastructure support, implementation, and workforce development. AI uptake across key industries Banks and financial services are leading AI adoption in APAC, with 84% using AI and 67% deploying GenAI, often to enhance fraud detection, anti-money laundering, and operational efficiency. Financial services spending on AI and GenAI is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 25-31% from 2023 to 2028. A majority of banks prefer composing AI solutions using enterprise platforms, which requires ongoing expert support in security and data management. In manufacturing, 78% of companies are using AI, with 54% adopting GenAI for supply chain optimisation, predictive maintenance, and real-time production monitoring. Half of manufacturers prefer tailored AI solutions, focusing on areas such as manufacturing execution systems, supply chain integration, and workforce upskilling. The energy sector is leveraging AI (83%) and GenAI (73%) for grid optimisation, predictive maintenance, and energy distribution. Australian engineering firm Worley has begun deploying generative solutions to enhance efficiency and collaboration. Investments are being made in responsible AI practices and infrastructure to promote the transition to cleaner energy and improve grid management across the region. Healthcare organisations report 86% adoption of AI and 59% adoption of GenAI, with a focus on diagnostics and predictive analytics. Notably, CSIRO's Virga computer cluster is being used in partnership with Queensland Children's Hospital to train AI models for diagnosing cystic fibrosis in paediatric patients. Over half of regional healthcare organisations prefer composed AI solutions, often turning to vendors to address complexities around regulations and skills shortages. Retailers in APAC are using AI (82%) and GenAI (63%) for personalisation, inventory planning, dynamic pricing, and fraud prevention. Around 43% prefer composed AI solutions. Retailers report challenges with data readiness and talent availability, prompting a combination of internal capability building and reliance on outside vendors. Expert perspective "The Asia Pacific region holds immense potential to lead the way in AI adoption and innovation. Now is the time for enterprises to move beyond proof of concept (POC) and focus on achieving measurable return on investment (ROI)," said Chris Kelly, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure Solutions Group Specialty Sales, APJC, Dell Technologies. "The journey to consistent ROI is complex and requires comprehensive support across every stage - strategy, use case development, data preparation, governance, optimisation, and scaling AI implementations. With the support from technology partners, enterprises can overcome adoption challenges and accelerate their path to impactful, results-driven AI outcomes." Research methodology The findings reflect multiple IDC data sources and surveys conducted between August 2023 and August 2024, spanning up to 919 respondents from various industries throughout APAC. The research highlights both opportunities and ongoing barriers as companies use AI and GenAI to drive productivity, efficiency, and new business models across the region.
