BREAKING NEWS Highly-respected baseball reporter Scott Miller dead at 62 after cancer battle
The world of baseball is in mourning following the death of legendary sportswriter Scott Miller at the age of just 62.
The longtime reporter, and most recently New York Times contributor, was battling cancer and news of his death was shared on Saturday night.
The news was first broken by baseball writer Bob Nightengale, who wrote: 'Baseball lost a giant. Scott Miller was a brilliant writer and an even better human.
'His gift for storytelling embodied his kind soul and heart. I loved him, and so did all blessed to know him. Please keep Kim, Gretchen, and family in prayer.'
Miller is the author of the book 'Skipper: Why Baseball Managers Matter and Always Will', released just a month ago, and he was on various podcasts in May promoting it.
MLB also released a statement which read: 'Tonight we remember Scott Miller - a true gentleman, a class act, and an expert of his craft who loved our National Pastime.
Miller was a legendary baseball writer who worked for the NY Times and CBS among others
'We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and his readers throughout the game.'
Miller's career spanned over three decades, and began as a beat reporter for the St Paul Pioneer Press.
He went on to work for CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, MLB Network Radio and the Los Angeles Times among others.
On X, Jeff Passan wrote: 'This is so awful. Scott Miller was as nice of a guy as you'd find in the press box — and a very talented writer to boot. A sad, sad day.'
The Post's Jon Heyman added: 'Very sad about this. Scott was an incredible teammate at CBS and great writer. Best to Kim, Gretchen and the whole Miller family.'

June 22 - Brice Turang hit a three-run homer, Rhys Hoskins hit a solo shot, and the Milwaukee Brewers held on for a 9-8 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. Hoskins also had an RBI double for Milwaukee, which completed a three-game sweep and improved to a season-high eight games above .500. Christian Yelich went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI to cap off a dominant series in which he drove in 10 runs in three games. Byron Buxton hit two solo home runs to lead the Twins at the plate. Ty France and Ryan Jeffers also homered for Minnesota, which lost for the ninth time in its past 10 games. Brewers left-hander Rob Zastryzny (2-1) earned the victory with two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief. He was one of seven relievers to follow right-hander Quinn Priester, who gave up three runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. Twins right-hander David Festa (1-2) surrendered eight runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three. Mickey Moniak, Antonio Senzatela lead Rockies past D-backs
June 22 - Mickey Moniak homered, Antonio Senzatela pitched solidly into the sixth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 on Sunday in Denver. Senzatela (3-10) allowed a pair of runs over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win for the second straight start. Senzatela had gone nine games (eight starts) without a win before beating Washington on Tuesday night. Seth Halvorsen got the final three outs to pick up his sixth save. He was the last of five pitchers that held Arizona to five hits. Randal Grichuk had two hits and Josh Naylor scored both runs for the D-backs on his 28th birthday. Arizona had its three-game winning streak snapped and managed just two runs after scoring 19 over the first two games of the series. The D-backs had a season-high 21 hits on Friday night and 10 more Saturday night but were held to one extra-base hit on Sunday. They threatened in the ninth when Grichuk hit a two-out double off the wall in right, but Halvorsen got pinch hitter Ketel Marte to fly out to end the game.
