Amit Shah Pays Tribute To Veteran Actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, Hails His Devotion To Uplifting The Poor

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the actor for his "riveting" performances and social service throughout his over four-decade-long career.
While paying tribute to the late Telugu actor, PM Modi wrote on X, " Anguished by the passing of Shri Kota Srinivas Rao Garu. He will be remembered for his cinematic brilliance and versatility. He enthralled audiences across generations with his riveting performances. He was also at the forefront of social service and worked towards empowering the poor and downtrodden. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti."
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also condoled his death, calling it an "irreparable loss" to the Telugu film industry.
In a post on X, CM Chandrababu Naidu said, "The demise of the renowned actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, who won the affection of cinema audiences with his versatile roles, is deeply saddening. His artistic contributions to the fields of cinema and theatre over nearly four decades, and the roles he portrayed, will remain unforgettable. The numerous memorable roles he played as a villain and character artist will forever stay etched in the hearts of Telugu audiences."
Kota Srinivasa Rao was born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu village, a suburb of Vijayawada city in Andhra Pradesh. Making his debut with 'Pranam Khareedu' in 1978, he acted in over 750 films in various languages. He also received the Padma Shri in 2015, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday recalled Manipur freedom fighter Hemam Neelmani Singh, a member of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army, as he was felicitated posthumously by the Bharat Vikas Parishad, with Shah as the chief guest at the event. Evading arrest till 1945, Shah said, Singh went back to Moirang after his release from jail in 1946, and engaged in social work. 'When I first went to Manipur, I saw youth conversing in Hindi. When I asked them how they could converse in Hindi so well, they recalled Heman Neelmani Singh, who worked for linguistic unity throughout his life,' he said. The Bharat Vikas Parishad is a voluntary organisation inspired by Swami Vivekanand that was initially set up as the Citizens Council by Suraj Prakash to mobilize citizen efforts against the Chinese attack of 1962. It was given its present name in 1963.

New Delhi/Sanaa: Urgent diplomatic and legal efforts are underway to stop the execution of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, who is facing death sentenced in Yemen. Her execution is scheduled for July 16. The Supreme Court of India on July 14 heard a petition seeking intervention in the case, while parallel talks continue in Yemen between local authorities, tribal leaders and representatives from India. The petition was filed by the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, a group campaigning to prevent her execution. During the Supreme Court hearing, Attorney General R. Venkataramani informed the bench that 'the Government of India is doing whatever is utmost possible' but highlighted that 'having regard to the sensitivity and status of Yemen as a place, there is nothing much the the government can do'. Meanwhile, negotiations are underway in Yemen's capital of Sanaa involving tribal leaders, judicial representatives and religious scholars. The talks are being attended by Habeeb Abdurahman Ali Mashhour, who is a representative of Shaikh Habeeb, along with a judge from the Jinayat court, representatives of the Yemeni government, tribal leaders and Talal's brother. The initiative was launched following a direct appeal by Indian Grand Mufti and All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama General Secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, who requested the victim's family to pardon Priya without seeking blood money (diya). A statement issued from Kanthapuram's office expressed hope that the outcome of the discussions may be known soon. Originally from Palakkad district in Kerala, Priya was convicted in 2020 by a Yemeni court for the murder of her business partner, whom she allegedly drugged and killed in July 2017, with the assistance of another nurse. According to Yemeni court documents, she then dismembered his body and disposed of the parts in an underground water tank. Her final appeal was rejected in 2023, and she is currently held at the Central Prison in Sanaa. The Indian government continues to monitor the case, but its capacity to intervene directly remains limited, as India does not currently have an operational embassy in Yemen due to the ongoing civil conflict there. The Supreme Court case, diplomatic appeals and tribal negotiations in Yemen are all unfolding simultaneously in a bid to prevent her execution. The situation remains fluid and a final decision from either side is awaited.
