Sporting events draw 14mln tourists with $6bln spending in 2024: minister
Attending a panel discussion at the 2025 Sports Investment Forum in Riyadh on Monday, Princess Haifa emphasized the growing role of sports tourism in the Kingdom. She noted that the Kingdom has welcomed visitors from more than 160 different nationalities to attend sporting events.
The opportunities that are opened up by sports tourism and sporting events are limitless, Princess Haifa said, while emphasizing that there is a strong desire among people to come to Saudi Arabia and explore it.
According to Princess Haifa, applications for licenses to carry out tourism activities have shot up by 390 percent since the announcement that the Kingdom would host the World Cup in 2034.

"But the grit that she gets as a seamer trying to keep pegging in and getting wickets (is impressive) and she picked up a six-wicket haul (in England) as well so I would love to see her in the World Cup playing at home." Paul Pogba's return to Monaco this summer set tongues wagging as the 2018 World Cup winner made his comeback to football after nearly three seasons on the sidelines -- a turbulent period blighted by injury, blackmail and an 18-month doping ban. Now with the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season looming large, the former Manchester United star must put all that behind him and get to work if he is to light up Monaco's Stade Louis II and realise his 'dream' of winning back his spot in the France national team. 'It's the wish of every French football player to represent the France national team, but there are stages,' Pogba said during his unveiling at Monaco in July. 'Today I'm at stage one: coming back and performing well.' Pogba's words attracted attention for what he could still offer on the field, but it was his tears of joy that really grabbed the spotlight. Images of the 32-year-old weeping as he signed a two-year contract with Monaco went viral on social media -- thus setting the tone for a very different type of graft. The arrival of the midfielder at Monaco represented more than just the return of a star name of French football to Ligue 1, it was clearly a marketing opportunity too good to pass up. Pogba was sent straight to work. First, he joined Zinedine Zidane for a video produced by their mutual sponsor, which garnered huge attention. Then, he took a trip to Saint Tropez with American influencer Darren Watkins Junior, who has 40 million followers under the name IShowSpeed. After that, he and his wife, Zulay, launched their new high-end jewellery brand, accompanied by a suitable social media campaign. He was the victim in March 2022 of an attempt to extort 13 million euros ($15.1 million) from him by relatives, including his brother Mathias who was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, in 2024. UAE approves national team's schedule ahead of World Cup 2026
The UAE Football Association has approved the national team's schedule for September as they prepare for two Asian play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup. The play-offs will take place from October 8 to 14, with the national team facing Oman and Qatar at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The national team will also be holding a training camp in Dubai from August 25 to September 9, where they will play two friendly matches, the first against Syria on September 4, and the second against Bahrain on September 8. The matches will both be held at Zabeel Stadium in Al Wasl Club. Matar Al Sahbani, a leading member of the national team's administrative management, confirmed that the upcoming training camp will be more beneficial, following the success of the first training camp in Austria last month. He added that the local competitions will begin soon, and the players will play official matches with their clubs, which will aim to enhance their technical and physical readiness. He also stressed the technical staff's keenness to monitor the performance of all players, including those who missed the Austria camp due to injury. Al Sahbani explained that the selection of the Syrian and Bahraini teams for the upcoming friendly matches is due to the proximity to the level of the competitors in the Asian play-off.
