DSS to hold convention against communalism in Bengaluru on May 8
Shivamogga
Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS), founded by B. Krishnappa, has decided to hold a convention in Bengaluru on May 8 with the theme to oppose communalism and protect the Constitution to mark B.R. Ambedkar's 134th birth anniversary.
M. Gurumurthy, State president of the DSS, in a press conference in Shivamogga on Saturday, said that the communal forces had been attempting to replace the Constitution drafted by Dr. Ambedkar. Recently, a group of seers at the Kumbh Mela declared that they had drafted an alternative Constitution. Similarly, seers representing influential communities had favoured a Constitution that suited their ideology. Even in the past, when Dr. Ambedkar presented the Constitution, the founders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha had opposed it, he said.
'These developments show that communal forces are working hard to replace the Constitution with one that would fulfil their agenda. We oppose such efforts. The convention is against the communal forces and to protect the Constitution', Mr. Gurumurthy said.
People from different parts of the State would take part in the convention to be held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan in Bengaluru, he added.
DSS State executive committee member Shivabasappa Bhadravathi said that through the convention, the organisation would demand that the State government hold the programme to mark the birth anniversary of Prof. Krishnappa on June 09, without declaring it a holiday and honour his contributions by extending him the Karnataka Ratna title posthumously.
The organisation would urge the government to remove Section 7(C) SCST/TSP Act to avoid the misuse of the funds meant for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Besides that, the government should provide a subsidy of ₹6 lakh each to families with no house, he added.

BJP silent over Vijay Bainsla's open challenge
1 2 Jaipur: State BJP 's continued silence over Vijay Bainsla, president of Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti and a party member, has raised serious questions about internal discipline and leadership authority in the party ranks. Bainsla successfully pressured the BJP-led state govt by threatening a major stir if the demand for 5% reservation for Most Backward Classes (MBC) was not included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. While the govt appeared to soften its stance under pressure, the party leadership neither condemned nor commented on Bainsla's confrontational posture. This move was interpreted by political observers as a crack in the BJP's disciplinary framework. Bainsla, who contested and lost the 2023 Assembly elections from Deoli-Uniara to Congress candidate Harish Meena, was reportedly sidelined within the party since then. Party insiders say he was not given space to raise community demands and was denied a ticket in the Deoli-Uniara bypolls in Nov 2024, fuelling his frustration and pushing him to take an aggressive stance to regain his position in the community. "The party didn't want to open a new front in the form of Bainsla, especially at a time when it is already struggling to manage cabinet minister Kirori Lal Meena," said a senior party leader, on condition of anonymity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Another senior BJP leader acknowledged that Bainsla commands considerable support among the Gujjar community, particularly on the reservation issue. "Being the son of the late Kirori Singh Bainsla, a towering figure in the Gurjar movement, he carries significant influence. During Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Bainsla's threat to oppose the march forced the Congress into damage control, resulting in formation of a four-member cabinet committee. That incident clearly established his clout," the leader said. Kirori Singh Bainsla was the leading face of the Gurjar reservation movement in Rajasthan since its inception in 2004. Vijay Bainsla was swiftly inducted into the BJP, with hopes that he would swing the Gurjar vote base, which heavily tilted toward the Congress in the 2018 elections—attracted by speculation over Sachin Pilot's potential elevation to chief minister. However, Bainsla's defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections led to his political marginalisation. However, his recent political revival through the Gurjar Mahapanchayat in Pilupura, which saw participation from Gurjars across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi, has repositioned him at the centre of the community's politics. Speaking to TOI, Bainsla said, "I am very much part of the BJP, but I also carry the responsibility to pursue the long-pending promises made to the Gurjar community by successive govts." Refusing to call his latest moves a rebellion, he added, "This is a 'wait and watch' phase — let's see how the govt responds."

Did Kaohly Vang Her commit voter fraud? Minnesota Rep admits she is an illegal immigrant during speech
Minnesota State Representative Kaohly Vang Her (DFL–St Paul) sparked controversy by admitting on the House floor that she and her family entered the US 'illegally' due to her father misrepresenting familial relations on immigration paperwork decades ago. Now, several social media commentators claim that the 51-year-old has committed voter fraud. During a debate on House File 1, which would end MinnesotaCare coverage for undocumented adults, Her said, "I am illegal in this country. My parents are illegal here in this country." She further revealed that her father listed her grandmother as his mother on immigration forms. She noted she 'just learned' of this, suggesting she was unaware of her status earlier. Her, a naturalized US citizen per some reports, has served as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore and co-chairs the Commerce, Finance, and Policy Committee. Minnesota law requires state legislators to be US citizens and qualified voters for at least three months. Voter fraud includes actions like voting while ineligible, casting multiple ballots, or submitting fraudulent registrations. Non-citizens voting in federal or state elections is illegal, and they face penalties like deportation or up to seven years in prison. Her's claim of being 'illegal' is ambiguous. Reports state that she is a 'naturalized US citizen', suggesting she may have gained citizenship before her 2018 election. Her statement implies she only recently learned of her family's initial illegal entry, not necessarily her current status. No evidence indicates Her voted or registered to vote while knowingly ineligible. Minnesota requires proof of citizenship for voter registration, and Her's four terms suggest she met these requirements. If the Minnesota Rep is not a US citizen, her eligibility to hold office is questionable under Minnesota's Constitution, which requires citizenship.

A video on TikTok went viral, sparking several reactions. In the clip, captured by TikTok user @only__loo, a man can be seen delivering an impassioned speech to National Guard forces in Downtown LA. Read More: Los Angeles protests: California governor Newsom to sue Trump admin over National Guard deployment 'You should be standing here with us! You're on the wrong side of history. We know you got a job to do. But you took an oath to the Constitution, not the fascists in the White House! Think about what you're doing now, think about what this means, coming into our community. Peaceful fucking community, people working their jobs. They send in men in military fatigues, weapons of war, into our community. And you stand here and you allow it. I'm sick and tired of it. You should be sick and tired of it," he says. Social media users claimed that the bearded, long-haired man, wearing a Los Angeles Kings hoodie, is Wyatt Russell, the son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Read More: Los Angeles protests: 'Incendiary devices' hurled at police horses, says LAPD "Actor Kurt Russell's son Wyatt just scolded Trump's National Guard TO THEIR FACES in Los Angeles!' one person wrote in the caption of the video posted on X, platform formerly known as Twitter. 'Kurt Russell's son Wyatt speaks out against what is happening right now in Los Angeles. Maybe a few ICE agents heard what he had to say,' another one added. 'Wyatt Russell—son of Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn—just did what every American with a conscience should: he looked the military in the eye and told them they're on the wrong side of history,' a third person tweeted. However, Russell's publicist told the Rolling Stone that the individual seen in the footage isn't him at all. 'This is indeed not Wyatt Russell, and we have been working to try and correct the mis-identification."
