DSS to hold convention against communalism in Bengaluru on May 8

Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS), founded by B. Krishnappa, has decided to hold a convention in Bengaluru on May 8 with the theme to oppose communalism and protect the Constitution to mark B.R. Ambedkar's 134th birth anniversary.
M. Gurumurthy, State president of the DSS, in a press conference in Shivamogga on Saturday, said that the communal forces had been attempting to replace the Constitution drafted by Dr. Ambedkar. Recently, a group of seers at the Kumbh Mela declared that they had drafted an alternative Constitution. Similarly, seers representing influential communities had favoured a Constitution that suited their ideology. Even in the past, when Dr. Ambedkar presented the Constitution, the founders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha had opposed it, he said.
'These developments show that communal forces are working hard to replace the Constitution with one that would fulfil their agenda. We oppose such efforts. The convention is against the communal forces and to protect the Constitution', Mr. Gurumurthy said.
People from different parts of the State would take part in the convention to be held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan in Bengaluru, he added.
DSS State executive committee member Shivabasappa Bhadravathi said that through the convention, the organisation would demand that the State government hold the programme to mark the birth anniversary of Prof. Krishnappa on June 09, without declaring it a holiday and honour his contributions by extending him the Karnataka Ratna title posthumously.
The organisation would urge the government to remove Section 7(C) SCST/TSP Act to avoid the misuse of the funds meant for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Besides that, the government should provide a subsidy of ₹6 lakh each to families with no house, he added.
