A book on Hiriyur Krishnamurthy released in Shivamogga

Shivamogga Krishnasmruthi, a collection of essays written in memory of the late Hiriyur Krishnamurthy, who worked for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) for many years, was released in a programme in Shivamogga on Saturday. Many leaders of the BJP and RSS took part in the book launch event. Krishnamurthy, who died in 2004, was a native of Hiriyur. He moved to Shivamogga in 1969 to work as a lecturer in a college there. He had since played an active role in strengthening the RSS in Shivamogga. His well-wishers formed a committee to bring out a collection of articles in his memory. The collection includes essays written by 70 people, including former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, former Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, former chairman of the Legislative Council D.H. Shankaramurthy, RSS leaders Su. Ramanna, Pattabhirama, former MLC P.V. Krishna Bhat, among others. RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale released the book. Mr. Yediyurappa, Mr. Eshwarappa, Mr. Shankaramurthy, Mr. Ramanna, and others recalled Krishnamurthy's contributions to strengthening the RSS in Shivamogga. Mr. Yediyurappa said Krishnamurthy played a major role in shaping his political career. Similarly, Mr. Eshwarappa recalled the days of his first election in 1989 and stated that he would not have entered electoral politics without the support of Krishnamurthy.

DSS to hold convention against communalism in Bengaluru on May 8

Shivamogga Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS), founded by B. Krishnappa, has decided to hold a convention in Bengaluru on May 8 with the theme to oppose communalism and protect the Constitution to mark B.R. Ambedkar's 134th birth anniversary. M. Gurumurthy, State president of the DSS, in a press conference in Shivamogga on Saturday, said that the communal forces had been attempting to replace the Constitution drafted by Dr. Ambedkar. Recently, a group of seers at the Kumbh Mela declared that they had drafted an alternative Constitution. Similarly, seers representing influential communities had favoured a Constitution that suited their ideology. Even in the past, when Dr. Ambedkar presented the Constitution, the founders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha had opposed it, he said. 'These developments show that communal forces are working hard to replace the Constitution with one that would fulfil their agenda. We oppose such efforts. The convention is against the communal forces and to protect the Constitution', Mr. Gurumurthy said. People from different parts of the State would take part in the convention to be held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan in Bengaluru, he added. DSS State executive committee member Shivabasappa Bhadravathi said that through the convention, the organisation would demand that the State government hold the programme to mark the birth anniversary of Prof. Krishnappa on June 09, without declaring it a holiday and honour his contributions by extending him the Karnataka Ratna title posthumously. The organisation would urge the government to remove Section 7(C) SCST/TSP Act to avoid the misuse of the funds meant for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Besides that, the government should provide a subsidy of ₹6 lakh each to families with no house, he added.
