Earthquake of 4.0 magnitude recorded in the Gulf, east of Jubail
RIYADH — The Saudi Geological Survey reported that a 4.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Arabian Gulf, approximately 55 kilometers east of Jubail.
According to the authority, the tremor was detected by the National Seismic Monitoring Network and is considered a minor earthquake.
"This quake is due to the stress along old faults in the Gulf region, caused by the movement of the Arabian Plate and its collision with the Eurasian Plate," the authority said.
The Geological Survey confirmed that Saudi territory was not affected and that the situation remains safe.

Tsunami alert after powerful quakes strike off coast of Russia: USGS
MOSCOW: Three powerful earthquakes struck off the coast of Russia's far east on Sunday, triggering a tsunami alert, the US Geological Survey said. Earlier 5.0-magnitude and 6.7-magnitude earthquakes did not initially trigger a tsunami alert, but were followed by a 7.4-magnitude quake at 0849 GMT, prompting the USGS to warn that 'hazardous tsunami waves are possible' within 300 kilometers (186 miles) of the epicenter in the Pacific, off the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
