Godfather Of Heavy Metal Ozzy Osbourne Passes Away At 76; Black Sabbath Members Pay Tribute

Hype Malaysia23-07-2025
The world of heavy metal is mourning the loss of one of its most legendary figures, the Godfather of the genre, Ozzy Osbourne. This morning, 23rd July (Wednesday), the Osbourne family shared the news of the 76-year-old icon's passing through a heartfelt statement on his official social media. Known for his unmistakable voice, magnetic presence, and role as frontman of Black Sabbath, Ozzy's influence extended far beyond metal and had a lasting impact on rock music and pop culture worldwide.
The cause of Ozzy's passing remains undisclosed, as his family has requested privacy during this difficult time. 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love,' the family shared in a statement. Following the devastating news, fans, musicians, and public figures around the globe have paid tribute to the man who shaped heavy metal's sound and spirit.
The former members of Black Sabbath also took to social media to express their grief. Tributes from Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward reflected not only sorrow but also deep gratitude for their time together. Ozzy's death also came just weeks after the group held their final performance together on 5th July (Saturday) for Ozzy's farewell concert, titled 'Back to the Beginning.'
The event featured a powerful solo set from the frontman, followed by a full-band performance—marking the first time in 20 years that all original members shared the stage. It was a historic and emotional night, serving as a fitting tribute to the legacy they built together. This concert also marked the final chapter in the story of a band that brought so many into the genre.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans worldwide. Ozzy's voice defined an era and gave life to a genre that continues to inspire generations. Though he may be gone, his spirit and sound will echo eternally through the music he helped create. His legacy lives on—not only in records and memories—but in the very foundation of heavy metal itself.

I got along with him great and he seemed like a nice guy," Trump said in an interview on Friday with Newsmax. "I didn't know him well, but when I ran for office, he was very hostile." Asked if that meant he was not inclined to pardon Combs, Trump said: "I would say so, yeah." A New York jury found Combs guilty last month of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. He was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges after a marathon trial in which he was accused of harrowing abuse. Sentencing has been set for October 3. - AFP

Final farewell for Ozzy Osbourne as Birmingham crowds salute Black Sabbath legend with brass bands and metal tributes

BIRMINGHAM, July 31 — Thousands of heavy metal fans lined the streets of Birmingham on Wednesday for the funeral procession of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, who died earlier this month at the age of 76. The cortege of the singer known as 'The Prince of Darkness' and the 'Godfather of Heavy Metal' was driven through his home city in central England before a private funeral. It stopped at a bench dedicated to the musical pioneers, and Osbourne's wife, Sharon, and their family looked at some of the thousands of flowers and tributes left by fans. The family waved and made peace signs to the crowd, many of whom chanted 'Ozzy, Ozzy'. Graham Croucher, a 58-year-old train driver from Northampton, said Osbourne was an 'absolute legend'. 'He was the soundtrack particularly to my life growing up,' he said. 'Black Sabbath are the originators of heavy metal and made such great music. And he dared to be different because he was different.' Black Sabbath hits Paranoid, War Pigs and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath made Osbourne a star in the early 1970s, and his antics on stage, most famously biting the head off a bat, extended his fame far beyond metal music. In 2002, he won new fans when he starred in US reality TV show The Osbournes, with Sharon and two of his children, Jack and Kelly. He died on July 22. No cause of death was given, but the star had disclosed a Parkinson's disease diagnosis in 2020. — Reuters
