LA Dodgers Foundation to rebuild Altadena's Loma Alta Park
"These fields will stand as a testament to the community's resilience, providing a safe space for youth and their families as they continue to heal from the impacts of the Eaton Fire," CEO Nichol Whiteman said.
The Dodgers Foundation and Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation plan to turn Loma Alta Park, which is on the western edge of the wildfire's footprint, into a beacon of hope as the area recovers from the disaster. The Dodgers Foundation plans to develop two "Dodgers Dreamfields" by May, in time for the final games of the Central Altadena Little League.
"Parks are essential to building healthier, happier, and more connected communities, and Loma Alta Park is truly the heartbeat of this neighborhood," said Norma E. García-González, director of LA Parks and Rec. "With Loma Alta Park being the first park in Altadena to reopen, having access to these upgraded fields will create invaluable opportunities for local youth."
To drum up support for the project, the Dodgers will donate proceeds from their Opening Day and Ring Ceremony Day 50/50 raffles this season. The team's home opener will be on March 27, and the ring ceremony will be held the following day.
The team's charitable arm has been refurbishing fields since 2003 through its Dodgers Dreamfields program. In the last 22 years, it has invested $20 million in improving 65 fields, which have given more than 400,000 kids the space to play baseball and softball.

Victor Robles apologized for throwing bat at pitcher: 'I'm not proud'
Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles briefly lost his cool and then made headlines while on a Triple-A rehab assignment for the Tacoma Rainiers. Robles, who won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019, was named an Opening Day starter for the Mariners earlier this season. However, early in the campaign, he made a diving catch and dislocated his shoulder on this play. As he works his way back into the majors, though, he hasn't exactly had the easiest time. That was especially evident on Sunday night during a particularly scary moment against the Las Vegas Aviators. During his second plate appearance of the game, Robles was hit by a pitch thrown by right-hander Joey Estes. After the impact, Robles reacted quickly and not particularly safely, which you can watch below: Robles picked up his bat and threw it toward Estes, and he was immediately ejected from the game. Once back in the dugout, Robles created quite a mess when he also tossed a bucket of sunflower seeds onto the field. Here is what Robles initially posted on social media after the game: "I want to apologize to everyone, with what happened today on the field, it's a little frustrating coming back from an injury that cost me almost the entire year, at the same time my mother died, and returning to the field to do the rehab games and get hit 5 times in less than 15 at-bats is hard not to react, it wasn't the best attitude, I'm very sorry about what happened." He later the deleted that post and then shared a longer version of the apology. Here is the longer version: "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field. I let my frustration get the I best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I've been doing my best to hold it together. That's not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I'm coming from. Getting hit 5 times in 15 at- bats added to that pressure, and I reacted in a way I'm not proud of. This game means the world to me, and so do the people who play it. I respect every one of you my teammates, the opposing players, and everyone in this league. I'm committed to being better, not just as a player, but as a teammate and competitor. I appreciate your understanding, and I'm grateful to be back on the field doing what I love. Thank you." This is important context from Robles, who was also hit by a pitch by Estes both last week and last season. Robles will probably receive a suspension for his actions on Sunday, though the apology is still important.

Triston Casas's goal is clear, 'be ready for Opening Day and to play first base'
For now, he is around his teammates for home games and offers whatever support he can. 'It's great to see the way we've been playing,' Casas said. Casas will spend the offseason at Fenway South in Florida, working with team staffers on his rehabilitation. Advertisement 'My goal is to be ready for Opening Day and to play first base,' he said. 'I'm going to do everything I can to get there.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Casas has hit .222 with a .730 OPS over 92 games the last two seasons. He played only 63 games in 2024 because of torn rib cartilage. Then came the knee injury on May 2 when he fell over first base trying to reach on an infield hit. Related : Red Sox first basemen — primarily Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro — have hit .240 with a .693 OPS, 14 home runs, and 59 RBIs since Casas went on the injured list. Toro has hit .183 with a .526 OPS since the All-Star break. The switch-hitter has been the left side of a platoon with Gonzalez. Advertisement The Sox could look to Nathaniel Lowe as an upgrade. The Nationals designated Lowe for assignment on Thursday and placed him on release waivers on Saturday. If he clears waivers, Lowe can be signed for the prorated remainder of his $10.3 million salary for this season. Lowe has hit .235 with a .732 OPS against righthanders this season. Like Toro, his defense has been well below average. But he could be a better option given his .771 career OPS and 18 games of postseason experience. Back at it Garrett Crochet will try something new on Sunday — bouncing back from a bad start. The lefthander allowed Crochet allowed five runs two other times this year but lasted six innings and won both games. Manager Alex Cora didn't feel Crochet necessarily pitched poorly. He allowed a two-out, two-run double by Christian Walker in the third inning and a two-out, two-run homer by Ramon Urias in the fifth inning. The other two runs were on a home run by Chas McCormick. 'If you look at the start, if he executes three pitches we'd be talking about something else,' Cora said. Crochet faced the Marlins last season while a member of the White Sox. He allowed two runs on five hits over four innings in a 7-6 loss. Waiting game The Red Sox added Ali Sánchez to the roster as a third catcher on Monday. He has yet to play. Cora suggested that Connor Wong could play other positions — he has experience at first base and second base with one inning at third base and two in left field. Advertisement 'Is it perfect? No, sometimes having three [catchers] is hard, but I think it works here,' Cora said. Cora also said that Sánchez is a player they Sox are thinking about for the future, too. The 28-year-old is a .182 hitter with a .458 OPS in 47 major league games. The Sox are his eighth organization after stints with the Mets, Cardinals, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Marlins, and Blue Jays since 2014 when he was signed out of Venezuela. Slaten to face hitters Justin Slaten is scheduled for live batting practice at Fenway on Monday. The righthander pitched two innings off the mound on Friday. Slaten has been on the injured list since May 29 with inflammation in his shoulder. Slaten's return would almost certainly improve a bullpen that is carrying Isaiah Campbell , Jordan Hicks , and Jovani Morán as options . . . Janson Junk , the scheduled starter for the Marlins on Sunday, roomed with Garrett Whitlock when they played for the Gulf Coast League Yankees in 2017. Whitlock was an 18th-round pick from Alabama Birmingham and Junk a 22nd-round pick from the University of Seattle . . . Manchester United v Arsenal Premier League preview: How to watch, analysis, & available players
It's the opening day of the 1989-90 league season at Old Trafford, and a rebuilding Manchester United, fresh off a busy transfer window, are hosting an Arsenal side set on challenging for the title. Sounds familiar? For the first time in 36 years, and only the second time ever, the two English giants will kick off their domestic league campaigns against each other in a mouthwatering start to the 2025-26 Premier League calendar. Advertisement The then Alex Ferguson's side ran out 4-1 winners that day: what would current boss Ruben Amorim give for a repeat result come Sunday? A total overhaul of the front three — Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko — and an undefeated pre-season have provided optimism ahead of a campaign that simply has to be better than last year's record-low 15th-place finish in the Premier League. For Arsenal, victory at Old Trafford would lay down the perfect marker in their latest bid to end a 20 year-wait for the Premier League crown. An extensive summer spending spree, headlined by the long-awaited capture of striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, is still ongoing as Mikel Arteta looks to go one better after finishing second for the last three seasons. UK coverage will begin on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event from 4pm ahead of a 4:30pm BST kick off at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17. Fans in the United States can follow the action on Fubo (Save $20), Peacock, NBC, Telemundo or SiriusXM FC, with the match set to begin at 11:30pm ET/8:30am PT. Few Premier League managers were more wedded to a single setup than Amorim and his trademark 3-4-2-1 last season, with United's seven in-game formation changes the lowest of any side. Yet in Mbeumo and Cunha, the Portuguese coach now has the chance to reinvigorate his dual No 10 system with two proficient ball carriers. As Amorim has looked to move United away from the transition-heavy style that has marked the post-Ferguson era towards a more controlled approach, their expected goals against has dropped considerably (from 70.1 in 2023-24 to 55.1). Yet their struggles with ball progression have endured, as explained by The Athletic's Conor O'Neill. Such difficulties could be alleviated by the increased availability of Leny Yoro — who impressed throughout pre-season — yet an historic inability to stop opponents breezing through central areas could stymie their hopes of a return to glory. It is an area that Arsenal could well look to exploit on Sunday with the addition of the press-resistant Martin Zubimendi already looking at ease alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Advertisement The Spanish midfielder can help to alleviate an over-reliance on attacking down the right-hand side (43 per cent of attacking touches in the right third was the highest in the league last season), and with the arrival of powerful runner Gyokeres offering Arteta's side an increased ability to go vertical at greater pace, they may have a new route to success. Don't be surprised to see Nicolas Jover prowling the Old Trafford technical area Sunday. No team could match Arsenal's 17 set-piece goals or expected goals (xG) from corners last season and, if pre-season is anything to go by, Jover has been back in the lab during the summer. Christian Norgaard nodded home his first Gunners goal against Villarreal after a flurry of Arsenal shirts flew forward to give him the freedom of N7 at the back post, while another routine test against Spurs saw five players beginning their runs from the edge of the box. Two goals conceded from corners handed Amorim his first defeat in English football at the Emirates last season. It puts huge responsibility on the shoulders — and head — of Yoro and Co to stop history from repeating itself. Manchester United Andre Onana — Hamstring (doubtful Noussair Mazraoui — Knock (doubtful) Joshua Zirkzee — Knock (doubtful) Lisandro Martinez Arsenal Leandro Trossard — Groin (doubtful) Gabriel Jesus Neither side will be keen to see the momentum of productive summers derailed by defeat to a bitter rival. There is little to separate the intensity of healthy optimism among either fanbase heading into the new campaign. In The Athletic's annual hope-o-meter poll, United and Arsenal supporters sat 5th (86 per cent of respondents optimistic) and 7th (84 per cent) respectively following extensive recruitment in key areas. Advertisement Afforded the extenuating circumstances of arriving 11 games into last season, Amorim has overseen a transfer outlay already upwards of £200 million — with a Carlos Baleba-sized potential addition to that bill still being explored — and so will be under far more immediate scrutiny this time around to prove his project has legs. Having been parachuted in from a triumphant reign at Sporting, Amorim knows how quickly moods can change, and meetings with Manchester City and Chelsea before September ends only further raise the stakes on starting strongly. After a window of remedying key issues — cover for Bukayo Saka and a new left-side option in Noni Madueke, a prized holding midfield in Zubimendi, and a new frontman in Gyokeres — Arteta believes he has all the tools needed to end his side's runner-up streak.
