Bryson DeChambeau Reveals LIV's Message as PGA Tour Bars Ryder Cup Tune-Up Plan
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With just 41 days to go before the Ryder Cup tees off at Bethpage Black, heat and excitement around Team USA are growing. The final team will be announced after the Tour Championship next week, but one unqualified LIV name is already locked in: Bryson DeChambeau. Last month, US captain Keegan Bradley confirmed to Sports Illustrated that the LIV Golf star will be part of the squad, calling him "a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup." The captain has encouraged all US players to compete in the Procore Championship at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., taking place just two weeks before the Bethpage showdown. Though the event isn't mandatory, most players are expected to be there. Scottie Scheffler has already confirmed his participation, and others are likely to follow once the final six captain's picks are made. DeChambeau, however, won't be joining them. "That's up to the Tour and their decision to make," DeChambeau told Sports Illustrated after opening with a 4-under 67 at LIV Golf Indianapolis on Friday. "It's on them if they don't let us become together as a team and play." "That just shows you ... yeah, I'm not gonna say that," he added further, while pausing. "Yeah, it's a scenario that's unfortunate, and I wish it was different, but LIV's willing to let me play." DeChambeau would need a sponsor's exemption to enter the Procore Championship, a formality given his star power, but the real hurdle is eligibility. A PGA Tour spokesperson reiterated to SI Golf that the two-time U.S. Open champion "is not eligible for PGA Tour competition," due to his ongoing suspension stemming from his 2022 move to LIV Golf. Bradley's agent, Brett Falkoff, confirmed that no formal request had been made to the Tour. "Bryson plans to participate in every team gathering that he is permitted to attend," Falkoff revealed via text to SI's Bob Harig. Unless the PGA Tour reverses its four-year stance on LIV-affiliated players, DeChambeau will be the only member of Team USA absent from the Napa event. DeChambeau, currently ranked fifth in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with 10,774.98 points, is projected to qualify automatically. He also sits at No. 17 in the Official World Golf Ranking, despite LIV events not awarding OWGR points. The "Break 50" YouTuber's season includes a win in Korea, top-five finishes in three majors, and a T10 at The Open. "I'm going to have the best 12 players, so the PGA of America ... we're going to have the 12 best players, so they need to figure that out, if that's their problem," Bradley said, as quoted by SI. But for now, DeChambeau remains focused on what he can control. More Golf: Scottie Scheffler shows his edge amid 'ridiculous' Ryder Cup questions

Phil Mickelson Walks Barefoot in Water, Chips Out of Trouble at LIV Golf Indianapolis
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Just days after Dean Burmester's dramatic playoff win at LIV Golf Chicago, the league has rolled into The Club at Chatham Hills for its regular-season finale in Indianapolis. Round 1 teed off Friday at 12:05 p.m. ET, and while Sebastian Munoz stole the spotlight with a record-breaking 12-under 59, it was Phil Mickelson who delivered the most unforgettable moment of the day, going barefoot. On the par-5 seventh hole, Mickelson's third shot drifted toward the water's edge. But rather than take a penalty drop, the six-time major winner opted for the risk. It was that moment Mickelson stole the show by chipping the ball 13 yards onto the green. The crowd erupted. "He just never ceases to amaze!" commented the broadcasting table as heard in the video posted by Nuclr Golf on X. The shot was clean with a bold recovery, just like a pure Mickelson moment. What a shot by Phil Mickelson 🤯 🪄 — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) August 15, 2025 The shot saved Mickelson a par on the hole. Later in the day, he carded four more birdies on the back nine to finish his round with a 4-under 67. This placed Lefty in a tie for 12th alongside Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Ben Campbell and eight others. Day 2 at LIV Golf Indianapolis tees off with Torque GC's Sebastian Munoz atop the leaderboard, following his jaw-dropping 12-under 59, a historic round that included a double bogey, the first of its kind in LIV Golf history. Dustin Johnson began Saturday at 9-under, just three shots back, while Joaquin Niemann entered tied for third at 7-under alongside Thomas Pieters, Patrick Reed, and Cameron Smith, all within striking distance as the weekend pressure builds. Sebastian Munoz shoots 59 with a double bogey at LIV event in Indianapolis
Justin Rose breaks down his favorite moments from the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club and previews what fans can expect from him and his competitors at this year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. WESTFIELD, Ind. — Sebastian Munoz of Colombia shot the third sub-60 score in LIV Golf history on Friday and is the first to post a 59 in a round that included a double bogey. Munoz led LIV Golf Indianapolis at the par-71 The Club at Chatham Hills. He has a three-stroke lead over Dustin Johnson. The 32-year-old Munoz joins Joaquin Niemann, who shot a 59 at the LIV Golf Mayakoba event in the first round of the 2024 season. Bryson DeChambeau has the LIV Golf low round of 58 at Greenbrier. This is the final tournament that determines the individual champion in the LIV Golf League. Munoz, along with Jon Rahm and Carlos Ortiz, are the only players in the top 10 who have yet to win this year.
