Horry County police investigate second hoax threat in 2 weeks at Carolina Forest High School
CAROLINA FOREST, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County police are investigating a second hoax threat at Carolina Forest High School in as many weeks, authorities said on Tuesday.
Horry County officers responded to the school for a reported threat, police said. The school was searched while classes were in a 'hold' status and no true threat was found.
'Carolina Forest High School has again become the victim of another hoax call. The Horry County Police Department, SRO, SSO and administration has efficiently checked and cleared the campus, and their school day will continue on a modified bell schedule with much-needed academic instruction,' Horry County Schools said in a statement. 'I want to thank our law enforcement partners for their continued professionalism and the assistance they have provided for our school community.'
The incident is the second hoax threat in as many weeks. Last Wednesday, Horry County Schools said a school resource officer was notified about a call received by law enforcement about a possible threat in a school restroom. A police report said the call came in shortly before lunchtime and that the caller said they had a bomb and knives in a restroom on campus.
As a result, the school enacted its 'hold' emergency protocol for about 25 minutes while law enforcement personnel and school officials investigated the incident, the district said in an emailed statement. The district said on Tuesday that the safety of its students and staff is their top priority.

There have been similar threats at the school as recently as last year. In August, Trenton Alexander Brown, 20, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to first-offense making a bomb threat or conveying false information about a bomb threat. He was given a sentence under the Youthful Offender Act not to exceed six years in prison, but the judge suspended the sentence to 18 months' probation instead.
After Brown's plea, 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson told News13 the April bomb threat was the result of an online prank between video game players.
Two local juveniles were also arrested in April in connection with a string of threats at the school that included the one made by Brown. Horry County's police chief at the time, Joseph Hill, said those responsible would 'face justice.'

Family grieves boy hit and killed while riding his bike in northeast Houston
HOUSTON - A family is calling for someone to step forward about a hit-and-run incident that killed a 12-year-old boy Tuesday night. What they're saying 12-year-old Zachariah Benjamin was a middle school student at Forest Brook who had dreams of playing pro football. "A loving kid who wanted to be outside all the time, wanted to play with his friends, like he did yesterday. Just a people's person," said Benjamin's sister, Monique Brown. "(He) loved football, loved playing. Just loved being a regular kid, loved having fun." Zacariah was tragically killed Tuesday night while heading home on his bike after playing with friends. A route he took often. His sister said they are devastated. "To go through death like my family. We lost our mother in 2016. A couple months later, our grandmother. A year later, our sister from a car crash. So it hits home. You get numb to it, almost. Somebody who was innocent, that hasn't finished his full life yet, to be taken," said Brown. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said around 9 p.m. Tuesday along Suburban Road, Zachariah was riding his bike on the sidewalk when a dog ran out and chased him, causing him to lose control of his bike. He fell on the roadway and was hit by a car that drove off. "I just want the person to come forward. I feel like you're making it worse for yourself when you left the scene and all you could have done was a mistake something that could have been prevented if they weren't driving fast," said Brown. Authorities said they have surveillance video of the incident and found car and bike parts on scene. Witnesses told police they saw the car speeding and said the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says they are looking for the driver of possibly a black Chrysler 300 year model range from 2015 to 2023. Rally outside CBP office in Detroit condemns Trump's mass deportations
A small but vocal group of demonstrators rallied Wednesday, June 11, outside the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office on Michigan Avenue in Detroit to oppose ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and deportations, as large-scale protests unfold in Los Angeles. Organized by BAMN — the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration and Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary — the rally aimed to spotlight what activists describe as a coordinated assault on immigrant communities. "We're here to stand in solidarity with our fellow organizers and everybody in LA who's standing up. That's what we need to do in every city across the country to stop (President Donald) Trump's ethnic cleansing plan," said Nicole Conaway of Detroit, a BAMN organizer for the past 15 years. Earlier in the day, protesters also demonstrated in front of the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building in downtown Detroit, down the block from where the evening protest was held. According to activists, five or six individuals — most of them believed to be Venezuelan — were detained after their immigration cases were dismissed in court, a practice that immigrant advocates say is becoming increasingly common. "That's happening more and more. Regardless of the outcome, people have been snatched up straight out of court — and we've known people that this has happened to," said Kate Stenvig, another BAMN organizer and Detroit resident. A spokesman for ICE did not comment specifically on the alleged arrests in Detroit, but said that ICE officers are permitted 'to conduct civil immigration enforcement actions in or near courthouses when they have credible information that leads them to believe the targeted alien(s) is or will be present at a specific location, and where such action is not precluded by laws imposed by the jurisdiction in which the enforcement action will take place.' The local protests come amid escalating tensions in Los Angeles, where Trump has deployed hundreds of National Guard troops to respond to public demonstrations against his administration's immigration crackdowns. State and city leaders have said the move has only heightened unrest. 'Trump is not just deporting criminals. He is just deporting anyone who's Black and Brown, pretty much,' Conaway said. 'It's a racist, white supremacist, fascist regime, and the way to stop it is mass collective organizing and mass action like we're seeing in LA right now.' Drivers honked their horns, and a group riding on The Michigan Pedaler cheered in solidarity. In addition to street activism, BAMN also operates a legal wing that represents families facing deportation. Conaway said she's seen firsthand how families have been torn apart at the office they were protesting outside of. They were detained there,' she said. Conaway added that she believes what's at stake goes beyond immigration policy. 'If Trump can win this battle, then we're further down the road to fascism and him being a dictator and not leaving the White House without force,' she said.
