Gender justice, feminist future dominate dialogue at Bharat Summit
Hyderabad: While showcasing Telangana as the most favourite destination for the global investments, the state government accorded a warm reception to the international delegates at the Bharat Summit-2025, which began on colourful note on Friday.
The 2-day summit, an initiative of the state government, enthralled the delegates, as folk artists showcased Telangana's artforms like Bonalu and Dappu (drumbeats) upon their arrival at the venue. Over 450 delegates representing different fields from 100 countries across the world are taking part in this event. They include heads of governments, Members of Parliaments, representatives of political parties, chiefs of major corporations and those reputed as think-tanks in different domains are participating in this major event aimed at showcasing Telangana as a model state with progressive thinking to the global audience.
The delegates attended the series of panel discussions, including Gender Justice and a Feminist Future, Fact vs Fiction: Countering Disinformation, Youth & Politics of Tomorrow and Shaping New Multilateralism on first day of summit.
Ann Linde, former Foreign Affairs minister of Sweden said that irrespective of living in developed or underdeveloped countries, women are facing discrimination when it comes to their representation as lawmakers. She urged global leaders for equal share in the government positions and lauded India's 33 per cent reservation efforts for women. 'There are less women parliamentarians despite all the progressive movements for proper representation of women. I hope that the next UN General Secretary will be a female,' she said while briefing the media on the first panel discussion of the day.
The Telangana ministers, including Deputy Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, D Sridhar Babu, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jupally Krishna Rao, coordinated with delegates to ensure smooth conduct of the programme. Bhatti said the Congress was setting the clear direction through the Bharat Summit with the three basic principles of non-violence, truth and social justice. Addressing the media, he said that the delegates coming across from the globe were understanding how the Congress party's core principles are being taken forward by combining social justice and development. He said that the representatives attending the Bharat Summit were informed about the schemes like 40,000 MW electricity generation by 2035 through the Clean and Green New Energy Policy, industrial clusters being set up between the Regional Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, Future City, Musi Rejuvenation, Knowledge IT Center, establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools, Rajiv Yuva Vikasam and amongst others. He said that the representatives expressed happiness over the development and welfare being implemented by the state government.
'The representatives attending the summit welcomed and appreciated the efforts made by the Telangana government in taking forward the global justice decision taken by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,' he affirmed.
Senior leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid said, 'Bharat Summit is an initiative of the Telangana government. One key aspect is attracting investment from India and abroad so that the people of Telangana can benefit from development and growth. The idea is to build the global profile of Telangana, which in turn adds to the global stature of India. Data and analysis are essential to achieve our vision of social justice, and like-minded countries have shown great support. What we have here is a progressive alliance.'

Congress to ensure backwards get respect in Bihar, north India: Rahul
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that his party is with backward communities in their fight for power in proportion to their population and again called for conducting a caste census at the earliest. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said this during a meeting with members of the Vishwakarma community at his residence here earlier this week. In a video shared by him on Thursday, Gandhi is heard saying that the Congress would strive to help the OBCs and the extremely backwards get respect in north India and Bihar. "My aim is to hand over the Congress party's command in the hands of OBCs, Dalits, tribals. This is your weapon," he told the Vishwakarma community leaders. "...when I see injustice being done to backwards and very backward communities, I don't like it. My endeavour is that in Bihar and north India, the extremely backwards should get respect and their history should be respected. I want to strengthen the original roots of extremely backward community, which the BJP-RSS is trying to weaken," he said. Gandhi pointed out during the meeting that people of the community were not there in the bureaucracy, media, corporate India, higher judiciary or among the generals in the armed forces. "The solution to your problems is caste census and the day it is done, your community will realise that they do not have a share according to their population. "The big question is how you will enter the country's power system. Merely having some MLAs from your community is not enough. You are fighting for representation and not for power. You should fight for power," the Congress leader said. Sharing the video of the meeting on his WhatsApp channel, Gandhi said lack of representation, loss of traditional employment, humiliation and contempt, and a large population of the country being away from the mainstream were their main complaints. Giving the example of Congress' freedom struggle for complete independence, the Congress leader said he explained to them that mere representation is not enough - "a united strong voice is also necessary". "The first and most important step in this direction is 'caste census' - the tool that will bring out the real situation of the society. This will expose the ground reality and policies will be made on that basis, which will ensure their representation, participation and stake. "At the same time, I assured them that the Congress party is with them in this fight. Their representation will start from within the party. We have done this at the district level in Gujarat and will continue to do it state by state in the future," Gandhi said. "When such leaders emerge from their society and those get the cooperation and support of their community, only then this chain of change will begin," he said.

Upset over State not implementing Direct Payment System, garbage collectors plan Delhi Chalo
Upset over the Congress government in Karnataka not fulfilling its promise to bring garbage collectors like sweepers under the Direct Payment System (DPS), Karmika Samrakshana Trade Union, representing over 15,000 garbage collectors in the State, has decided to kick start a Delhi Chalo rally on July 25. 'The entire Congress leadership had promised to free us from the clutches of contractors and bring us under DPS. It was part of their manifesto as well. But now, two years after coming to power, they are backtracking on this promise. So we have decided to march to Delhi and seek accountability from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi,' said Tyagaraj, president, Karmika Samrakshana Trade Union. Speaking at the event where appointment letters to over 12,000 pourakarmikas were issued on May 1, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised that garbage collectors will soon be brought under DPS. However, three weeks later in the last week of May, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that garbage collection and transportation tenders were called in 33 packages for a period of next seven years, essentially going back on the promise to bring garbage collectors under DPS and locking them up under contractors for the next seven years. These tenders have run into legal hurdles in the High Court of Karnataka. Sources said the contractors' lobby has been strongly opposing taking out garbage collection and transportation from their hands. A section of bureaucracy has also opposed the civic body, or BSWML, taking over the operation completely, sources said. They cite a lack of vehicles, infrastructure, and a lack of credible rolls to bring garbage collectors on the rolls of the civic body. 'Finally, it's a policy decision by the political executive. In the absence of any directions to bring garbage collectors under DPS, we are continuing with the contract system,' a senior civic official said.

'Nothing taken out': Trump on Iran shifting uranium from nuclear sites ahead of US strikes; says 'too dangerous to move'
US President Donald Trump on Thursday dismissed all reports and claims that Iran had moved uranium stock pile from its nuclear sites ahead of the strikes from America. Calling it "too dangerous to move", Trump said in a post on Truth Social, "The cars and small trucks at the site were those of concrete workers trying to cover up the top of the shafts. Nothing was taken out of facility. Would take too long, too dangerous, and very heavy and hard to move!" US defense secretary Pete Hegseth also denied having any intelligence over the same and said, "I'm not aware of any intelligence that I've reviewed that says things were not where they were supposed to be, moved or otherwise." Driving the news The impact of the US strikes came under radar after several experts claimed that Iran may have relocated its stockpile of near weapons-grade highly enriched uranium from the Fordo facility, potentially concealing it along with other nuclear materials at undisclosed sites unknown to Israel, the US, and UN nuclear inspectors. Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies revealed 16 trucks positioned outside Fordo enrichment facility ahead of the US airstrike. The site, built deep within a mountain, has long been seen as resistant to most missile attacks. According to Israeli officials, the trucks were likely used to transport uranium out of the facility prior to the bombing. Two Israeli intelligence sources told The New York Times that Iran, anticipating strikes, had removed approximately 400 kilograms (around 880 pounds) of uranium enriched to 60% purity. This material, previously stored at a nuclear complex near Isfahan, was reportedly contained in small casks that could fit into standard vehicles. Rafael Grossi, chief of the UN's nuclear watchdog, said that the last time IAEA inspectors saw the nuclear fuel was before Israel's airstrikes began. Following the attacks, Iranian authorities halted all inspections, citing the wartime situation. The current whereabouts of the uranium remain unknown, and Iranian authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the reports. However, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Sunday that the bulk of Iran's 60% highly enriched uranium was relocated to a secret location ahead of the US strike.
