Democratic politics have changed globally: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that democratic politics have fundamentally changed across the globe and the rules that applied a decade ago no longer hold good. Addressing the concluding session of the two-day Bharat Summit-2025 in Hyderabad, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that the traditional tools of politics are no longer effective against the modern concentration of capital, media, and social media. Gandhi said the old model of political leadership is now 'obsolete' and a new kind of leadership must be constructed, and added that the real challenge lies in reclaiming democratic spaces and reimagining priorities such as healthcare. The old model of a politician is obsolete; a new kind of leadership must be constructed,' he said. Speaking on the reasons that led him to undertake the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', he said that the Congress felt 'trapped and isolated' in a political atmosphere that no longer allowed it to operate freely. 'Some years ago, we in the Congress party felt completely trapped and isolated. This new politics, aggressive politics, a politics where the opposition is not talked to but the idea is to crush the opposition. We found that all our avenues were compromised. The media, the general atmosphere did not allow us to operate the way we would like,' he said. The Congress leader said that he learnt two things from the journey. 'First, our opponents have a monopoly on anger and fear—we cannot fight them on that ground. But during the yatra, I discovered the transformative power of listening. I spoke less and listened more, and that changed everything.' The second lesson was about embracing love in politics, pointing out the genesis of his slogan 'nafrat ke bazaar me mohabbat ki dukaan' (setting up a shop of love in a market of hatred). 'Until the yatra, I had never used the word 'love' in politics. But once I did, people began to respond,' he said. 'No matter how much hatred someone spreads, the most powerful way to disrupt them is not to argue with them but right in front of their hatred, to place the idea of love and affection Gandhi said he realised that politicians have failed to listen to people's voices. 'No matter how much hatred someone spreads, the most powerful way to disrupt them is not to argue with them but right in front of their hatred, to place the idea of love and affection,' he said. Disagreements on policy will always exist, however, while some operate through the lens of anger and fear, we must view the world through the lens of love, affection, and empathy, Gandhi noted. The Congress MP thanked the delegates of Bharat Summit for their solidarity with India in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack. Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy, who was also part of the event, said his government was working on fulfilling the aspirations of all sections of society, including students, youth, farmers, women and the oppressed communities in particular. 'Women, farmers, and youth are the main partners in our government. Telangana is blessed with wonderful women entrepreneurs. Some women formed self-help groups with 67 lakh (6.7 million) members. Our goal is to promote one crore (10 million) women as millionaires. Women groups are establishing solar power plants, owning electric RTC buses and petrol pumps in the state,' he said. The chief minister said his government's policy was to generate more revenue and distribute the wealth to the poor. The government is transparent and proactive in introducing reforms. 'We invite all the delegates to join our mission to bring a change in the lives of people and appeal to them to share their experiences, knowledge and skills with the state government and become 'Telangana Rising' brand ambassadors,' he said.

Fight opponents' anger, hatred with love: Rahul

Hyderabad: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday urged party workers to "listen to the wishes and the will of the people we are supposed to represent" and to counter the opponents' politics of fear, anger, and hatred with love and affection. Without naming any party, he said the new kind of politics was aimed at crushing the opposition rather than engaging with it. "Our opponents have a monopoly on anger, fear, and hatred. We cannot and should not fight them on that ground… Our lens should be love and affection," Rahul told the valedictory session of the 'Bharat Summit-2025', adding "in a sense, the old politician is dead, and a new kind of politician has to be constructed." "Yes, welfare schemes will exist, but it is very important to listen to the people," he added. The summit passed a 'Hyderabad Resolution' with a 44-point agenda on 'delivering global justice'. The Congress leaders and global delegates collectively adopted the Hyderabad Resolution , which reaffirms a shared commitment to the values of freedom, equality, justice, and solidarity, uniting social-democratic, socialist, and labour movements from around the world.

Bharat Summit adopts Hyd Resolution, vows to fight for global justice

1 2 Hyderabad: Congress leaders and delegates from 100 countries who participated in the two-day Bharat Summit-2025 here on Saturday collectively adopted the Hyderabad Resolution , a 44-point agenda under the theme 'delivering global justice '. The Hyderabad Resolution unanimously condemned terrorism in all forms, including by nations that support terrorism. It further stated that far-right leaders and autocratic govts were derailing democracy and limiting freedoms by undermining institutions, disregarding multilateral agreements, spreading lies, fuelling division, and attacking progress, especially on gender equality and civil rights. We stand with progressive movements around the world that are being silenced. Autocratic govts are misusing the law to target critics. Social and traditional media are being manipulated, and intrusive surveillance is employed against activists and dissenters. Undermining the rule of law and public accountability fosters an environment ripe for unchecked power and corruption. These mounting assaults on democracy, and the concentration of power by conservative and far-right forces, pose grave threats to the international order. We recognize persistent injustices—particularly those affecting the Global South—and commit to reshaping a world order that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive," were among the resolutions adopted at the summit. The key agenda items include reshaping the economic paradigm, advancing environmental justice, striving for gender equality and social inclusion, defending democracy and social justice, working for peace and human security, and reforming global institutions. Over 450 international delegates who attended the two-day summit provided the right platform to exchange ideas on global justice and peace, in alignment with Rahul Gandhi's vision of Nyay Patra. "We will uphold the global consensus on tackling climate change despite emerging disagreements. We stand together to forge partnerships to espouse global justice as an underlying imperative in these trying times," the resolutions said.

Revanth urges global delegates to become ambassadors for ‘Telangana Rising'

1 2 Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged delegates from nearly 100 countries and across India, attending the Bharat Summit-2025, to become brand ambassadors of the ' Telangana Rising ' mission and showcase the state's vision and achievements to the world. Speaking at the summit's valedictory session organised by the Telangana govt at HICC, the CM said the govt's policy was to generate wealth and distribute it equitably, addressing the aspirations of people who fought for Telangana's statehood — aspirations that, he said, were ignored during the previous govt's two terms. Our 'people's govt' is striving to fulfil the aspirations of all sections, including students, youth, farmers, women, and oppressed communities. We have launched several welfare and development programmes, but there is much more to be done," Revanth said. He called upon the delegates to share their experiences, knowledge, and skills with the state and spread the word about Telangana's transformation. "We are proud that Telangana conducted a comprehensive caste survey and pioneered SC categorisation. We also became the first govt to recruit members of the third gender community in vehicular traffic management," he said. Highlighting various welfare initiatives, Revanth said the govt waived ₹20,617 crore of crop loans benefiting 25.5 lakh farmers and provides 24-hour free electricity to the agriculture sector. Under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, farmers receive ₹12,000 per acre annually, while landless farm labourers also get ₹12,000 each year. Additionally, the govt offers ₹20,000 crore in financial assistance to the agriculture sector annually, along with minimum support price and a ₹500 bonus per quintal for fine paddy. "Rythu Bima and crop insurance benefits are also being extended to farmers," he added. In the presence of AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, Revanth listed the govt's focus areas — education, healthcare, and employment generation. "Women, farmers, and youth are our main partners. There are 67 lakh women members in self-help groups. Our goal is to make one crore women millionaires. Women groups are establishing solar plants, owning electric RTC buses, and running petrol bunks. Telangana power companies have tied up with women's groups to procure 1,000 MW of solar power," he said, adding that women entrepreneurs are now competing with major corporate players. Hyd's infrastructure push Hyderabad: The Congress govt has embarked on major infrastructure projects to position Hyderabad as a global city. "We are developing a world-class Future City over 30,000 acres, building a 370-km regional ring road, and expanding the Hyderabad Metro Rail. The Musi rejuvenation project is underway to curb pollution and transform Musi into a major tourist attraction, creating thousands of jobs," CM Revanth Reddy said.

One key aspect is attracting investment from India and abroad so that the people of Telangana can benefit from development and growth. The idea is to build the global profile of Telangana, which in turn adds to the global stature of India.
