AC Milan Boss Hails Modric: 'Top Player.. Technical Brilliance And Leadership'

AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri announced Luka Modric will join the team in August, missing the pre-season tour.
AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri disclosed that Luka Modric will join the team in August, which is why he has been left out of the squad that traveled to Singapore for their first pre-season friendly.
Modric joined the Serie A side after contributing to Real Madrid's journey to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. Consequently, he was omitted from the squad for their pre-season tour, which includes stops in Hong Kong and Perth after facing Arsenal on July 23 to play against Liverpool and Perth Glory.
'We expect him to join us in August. He's a top player who will add technical brilliance and leadership to the squad," said Allegri in the pre-game press conference.
Who Is Luka Modric?
Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric overcame a challenging start to become a legendary figure at Real Madrid. With nearly 600 appearances and almost 30 major trophies, including a record six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns, Modric's impact has been monumental.
Allegri has returned to AC Milan, having previously managed the team for a four-year stint between 2010 and 2014, during which he led them to a Serie A title in 2010/11 and won the Italian Supercup the following year.
Allegri's latest tenure as head coach was with Juventus from 2021 to 2024, marking his second stint with the team. In his first stint, he won five consecutive Serie A titles from 2014/15 to 2018/19 and guided the team to two Champions League finals.
Milan reappointed Allegri after Conceicao's five-month tenure left the team without European football next season.
The Italian coach is optimistic despite this setback, focusing on the positives.
'It's a different situation than it was 15 years ago. It's not only football that has changed, but the world in general. The positive aspect of not playing in the Champions League is that we'll have more time to work and build a team. The negative is that we're not playing on the big stage. But I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy, so we have time and the chance to work on qualifying. I'm confident in my players, because I think this is a talented group with a good mindset," he added.

Arsenal signs Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal on Saturday announced the signing of Swedish international striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. The 27-year-old, who fired Sporting to the Portuguese title last season with 39 goals and netted a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, is reported to have signed a five-year deal in a transfer worth £55 million (62.9m euros). This is where you need to be. Viktor Gyökeres is a Gunner ✊ Narrated by Kojey Radical 🎙️ — Arsenal (@Arsenal) July 26, 2025 Gyokeres' transfer, which could end up costing the north London club as much as £64m with performance-related add-ons, takes Arsenal's close-season spending to the region of £200m. He becomes Mikel Arteta's sixth summer signing and follows defender Cristhian Mosquera (£13m), midfielder Martin Zubimendi (£60m), goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5m), midfielder Christian Norgaard (£10m) and forward Noni Madueke (£48.5m) in moving to the Emirates. Arsenal confirmed the news with a brief post on X which read: 'This is where you need to be. Viktor Gyokeres is a Gunner.' Gyokeres will be expected to meet up with his new team-mates in Arsenal's ongoing pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong. The Gunners face Newcastle in the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday ahead of the concluding game of their tour, against Tottenham in Hong Kong on July 31. Gyokeres moved to Brighton from Swedish side Brommapojkarna in January 2018, but spent time on loan at St Pauli and then Swansea and Coventry, before making a permanent move to the Sky Blues in July 2021. After Coventry were beaten on penalties by Luton in the 2023 Championship final at Wembley, Gyokeres completed a £20.5m switch to Sporting. He scored a remarkable 97 goals in 102 matches for the Portuguese side. Arsenal spent the concluding months of last season without a recognised striker following long-term injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. Even before then, Arsenal were in desperate need of a reliable scorer, and Arteta will hope his new signing can fire him to his first silverware since he won the FA Cup in 2020, and end the club's two-decade wait for a Premier League title. Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta has wasted little time in strengthening a squad which has finished runners-up in the league for the past three seasons. Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also put pen to paper on new contracts in the off-season, with a long-term extension for teenager Ethan Nwaneri believed to be all but completed. 'Don't Confirm Participation In Indian Events': Pakistan Sports Board To Federations

Last Updated: All national sports federations have to seek clearance from the PSB before making any commitment, promise, or announcement about participation in competitions hosted on Indian soil In a significant move reflecting the strained political climate between the two nations, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has issued a stern directive to all its national sports federations: do not confirm participation in any event in India without explicit prior consultation and approval from the board. This decision, formalised during the 34th meeting of the PSB on July 23, comes amid what the board terms 'prevailing security concerns" and 'regional sensitivities". The directive, issued via a circular, makes it mandatory for all national sports federations to seek clearance from the PSB before making any commitment, promise, or announcement regarding participation in competitions hosted on Indian soil. The decision arrives in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, notably following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives. India has held Pakistan-backed terrorists responsible for the incident, while Islamabad has vehemently denied the accusations. This led to a series of diplomatic measures and a brief military conflict in May, although a ceasefire was later announced after Pakistan reached out for talks. The immediate impact of this directive is evident in several upcoming sporting events. Pakistan's national men's hockey team had already withdrawn from the Men's Hockey Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Rajgir, India, from August 27 to September 7, citing 'serious security threats". There are also reports that Pakistan will not participate in the Junior World Cup in India in November. Furthermore, the issue of Indian and Pakistani teams playing against each other in multi-nation tournaments continues to be a point of contention. While bilateral series remain suspended since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, events like the Asia Cup cricket tournament are now being moved to neutral venues, with the 2025 edition set for the UAE in September, as confirmed by the Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Shubman Gill Breaks Virat Kohli's All-Time Batting Record Of Scoring Most Runs In...

Last Updated: Before Gill, the record of scoring the most runs in a Test series played in SENA countries by an Asian batter was in the name of Virat Kohli, who scored 692 runs in 2014-15 BGT. Indian men's cricket team captain Shubman Gill entered his name in the history books on Saturday (July 26) by breaking the record of scoring the most Test runs by an Asian batter in a Test series played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries. Gill needed 74 runs in India's second innings of the ongoing fourth India-England Test to go past Virat Kohli's tally of 692 runs, and he achieved the objective during the third session of the fourth day's play at Old Trafford in Manchester. During the 2014-15 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli played four Tests against Australia and scored 692 runs. If Gill manages to add three more runs to his tally of 78 (at stumps on Day 4), then he will become the third cricketer after Sunil Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 700 runs in a Test series for India. The individual score of 81 runs or more in the second innings of the Manchester Test will also help him become the second Indian captain after Gavaskar to score more than 700 runs in a Test series. If Gill manages to add 16 more runs to his tally in the ongoing match, then he will break Yashasvi Jaiswal's record of scoring the most runs in a Test series for India against England. The overall record of scoring the most runs in a Test series played between India and England is in the name of England's Graham Gooch. During the 1990 India-England Test series, he scored a total of 752 runs in three matches. England Joe Root's scored 737 runs in five matches of 2021-22 series and Jaiswal is third on the list with 712 runs. top videos View all Gill would like to convert his good start into a big score on Sunday (July 27), and if he manages to score a century, then he will become the third Indian after Gavaskar and Kohli to score four centuries in one Test series.
