The legendary broadcaster will finish out his career after 38 years on College Gameday
College football Saturdays won't be the same. After 38 years, the legendary coach and analyst Lee Corso is retiring, according to ESPN.
From his iconic headgear segments to his phrases such as "not so fast, my friend," Corso left a lasting impression on so many who tuned into College GameDay each and every week. Before joining the ESPN team, he made his mark as a head football coach. Going back to his playing days, Corso has been around the game of football since 1953 when he played for the Florida State Seminoles.
Following the 1957 season, he joined the coaching staff as a graduate assistant with the Seminoles. He would join the Maryland Terrapins staff from 1959 to 1965 as the quarterbacks coach. Eventually, Corso would take over the Louisville Cardinals football program as the head coach, where he won two MVC championships before a nine-year run with the Indiana Hoosiers.
He made his way back to the collegiate level as a broadcaster in 1987, where he was a mainstay until his retirement after a one-year run in the USFL as head coach of the Orlando Renegades.
There should be plenty of tears come Aug. 30, 2025, when Lee Corso signs off for the final time, but it should also be a time of celebration for the coach.
