Ravens star pass rusher Odafe Oweh sends strong message on team's postseason struggles

USA Today30-06-2025
The Baltimore Ravens saw their 2024-2025 season come to a halt at the hands of the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Many thought Baltimore could be the last team standing; however, costly turnovers and a lack of execution cost the Ravens their shot to win the franchise's third Lombardi Trophy.
Baltimore now embarks on a new journey to return to the Super Bowl, with numerous players eager for the chance to win a championship. The team saw strong attendance from players during their offseason workouts at OTAs and minicamp, with players such as outside linebacker Odafe Oweh showing up in shape and ready to go.
Oweh put on about 20 pounds of muscle this offseason, and is far from satisfied with the team's playoff results. When speaking to the media, he made it clear how the team feels about their postseason failures, sending a firm message on the motivation behind so many of his teammates joining him at workouts that aren't required.
Oweh is coming off of the first double-digit sack season of his career and is looking to build on the steps he made last year. He is expected once again to be a massive part of Baltimore's pass rush. With his body transformation, he should be even more effective, which could be a key x-factor for a Ravens defense that has struggled to force turnovers in their recent postseason appearances.

NFL Insider Portrays Positive Outlook on Terry McLaurin Saga

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In these final weeks before the 2025 season begins, the Washington Commanders still have a pressing issue to attend to. After months of failed negotiations, Terry McLaurin remains without a contract extension. Though things haven't resolved themselves yet, there's growing optimism he could be on the field Week 1. McLaurin has eyed a deal on par with the current wide receiver market, but the Commanders have been hesitant to offer such a sizable salary. They are aware he's one of the most consistent talents at his position, but his age is a cause for concern. With McLaurin's 30th birthday just around the corner, there is no telling how his production will look over the course of a long-term deal. Shortly after making his return to training camp, reports emerged that McLaurin requested a trade. Washington quickly shut down any notion of him being moved, making it clear that they won't be entertaining offers for their homegrown star. Photo by/Getty Images Ian Rapoport portrays positive outlook on Terry McLaurin's situation On Monday afternoon, NFL insider Ian Rapoport made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. Among the array of topics he touched on was McLaurin's ongoing situation in Washington. Though he cited the two sides might remain slightly apart in price, he noted they are hard at work trying to get something done before the season gets underway. "My sense is it's around or a little under 30," Rapoport said when asked about Washington's offer to McLaurin. "They both have arguments, but I think they are trying to do it. I think they are also in that all-in mode because they got the lottery ticket too." "My guess is that the Commanders want to pay him around or a little under $30M.. I think both sides are really trying to get this deal done" ~ @RapSheet #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) August 18, 2025 Also read: Commanders Teammates Elated Amid Latest Terry McLaurin Update The aforementioned lottery ticket is quarterback Jayden Daniels. In his rookie season, he nearly led the Commanders to a Super Bowl appearance. Understanding they have a budding superstar on their hands, the Commanders were busy this offseason upgrading the cast of talent around Daniels. The final piece remains getting his top target back in the mix. In the event that a deal comes about, McLaurin is in a position to enter the fold quickly. While talks haven't gained much ground, there have been positive developments regarding his health. After being put on the PUP list due to an ankle injury, Washington moved him to the active roster over the weekend. For more Washington Commanders and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Adam Schefter Drops Major Hint on Shedeur Sanders' Browns Future

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In what was arguably the worst-kept news in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns named former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback on Monday. The news was expected ever since the 40-year-old passer signed a one-year, $4 million deal back in April to step into the void left by Deshaun Watson, who suffered his second Achilles injury and is expected to miss the 2025 season after playing just seven games last season before suffering a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 7. Given the team's unfortunate luck with injuries, especially under center, Cleveland loaded up on QBs to compete with Flacco, trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett and drafting former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, and ex-Colorado star Shedeur Sanders two rounds after Gabriel. Though Cleveland's QB1 is official, the second- and third-string positions have yet to be determined. And while most believed the Browns would take three QBs into the season and either cut or trade on of their rookies, ESPN's Adam Schefter believes that's not the case. The Cleveland Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles NFL: Chiefs Lose First-Round Pick to Season-Ending Injury "Even though they named their starter today, and we don't know their backup, I expect the Cleveland Browns to carry four quarterbacks," Schefter said on "NFL Live" on Monday. "Four quarterbacks on their final 53-man roster. "I expect they'll have four there, they're going to keep both rookies, they're going to keep Flacco, so we're really talking about Kenny Pickett, and I really expect he makes the roster because quarterbacks are currency. ... Or maybe somebody calls about one of the rookie quarterbacks." There's an increasing feeling that the Browns will carry four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 18, 2025 More NFL: 49ers Could Face NFL Punishment Over Brandon Aiyuk Decision Schefter's prediction is good news for Sanders, who many believed was ranked fourth out of four by the Browns for the entirety of camp and the preseason. The 23-year-old threw for 138 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Browns' preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, and many agreed that he outshined Gabriel, who threw for 143 yards and an interception in last week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. There's no question Sanders has been immensely popular among Browns fans since he was picked 144th overall back in April. Sanders leads all rookies in jersey sales since the draft, and his preseason debut was the most-watched preseason game on NFL Network in over a decade (2.2 million viewers), according to Yahoo Sports. The Chiefs, who fell one win shy of becoming the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions last season, had one of the top defensive units in the league. Kansas City ranked fourth in scoring defense (19.2 points allowed per game) and ninth in total defense (320.6 yards allowed per game), but defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will have to replace a big hole on his defensive line after it was revealed the team will be without 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah for the entire season. "His season ends before the preseason finale." Anudike-Uzomah started three games last season, logging 27 tackles, 14 pressures, seven hurries, six tackles for loss, four QB hits, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, according to Pro Football Focus. He ranked fifth among defensive linemen in pressures and hurries, and he was expected to play a much larger role this season. More NFL: 49ers Lose Bidding War to NFC Rival for Former Second-Round WR
