Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides more context on star running back's 2025 status
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has continued to make the media rounds this summer, making a stop in the DFW area for Forth Worth Coach's Night to speak to Aggie alumni, donors, and media members about the upcoming 2025 season, and his belief that this will be Texas A&M's best season yet entering his second year at the helm.
This offseason has been busy, especially on the recruiting trail after landing three more commitments in the 2026 class, including standout four-star running back KJ Edwards on Tuesday night. Elko and his staff, like former head coach Jimbo Fisher, greatly value recruiting as opposed to only relying on the transfer portal, knowing that gaining elite future NFL talent is the key to sustained success.
The Aggies are poised to make a run to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history if the roster lives up to its potential, especially the talented and deep running back room led by senior back Le'Veon Moss, who missed the final five games of the 2024 regular season due to his season-ending leg injury.
While his injury was serious, Moss has vocally expressed that be 100% ready for the 2025 season, and while he has also received the backing of his head coach, Elko stated on Tuesday night that his star back will not go through contact drills until midway through fall camp.
"He will not be cleared for contact until midway through training camp."
This is not surprising given the severity of Moss's injury, and while he has been moving well over the past three months, Elko and, RB coach Trooper Taylor, and OC Collin Klein will take every precaution necessary to prevent any further wear and tear before the real games begin.

Iowa football lands defensive lineman, 10th 2026 recruiting commit

Iowa is back on the board in the 2026 class, picking up a commitment from defensive lineman Sawyer Jezierski out of Minneapolis. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive lineman chose the Hawkeyes over offers from schools such as Boston College, Kansas State and Washington State. Jezierski also held offers from Army, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Advertisement The Edina High School product visited Iowa last weekend before committing to the Hawkeyes and head coach Kirk Ferentz, defensive line coach Kelvin Bell and assistant defensive line coach Jay Niemann. Lamar Jackson lands behind Joe Burrow in a PFF ranking of all 32 NFL quarterbacks for 2025

Lamar Jackson is a two-time NFL MVP and should have won the award in 2024. Baltimore's 2025 NFL offseason is underway, and the Ravens' focus has shifted to reshaping the roster and giving their star signal-caller an extended Super Bowl window. Baltimore is just days from the start of OTAs, which means the yearly positional rankings have begun. PFF started with the quarterback position and caused controversy when it listed Jackson at No. 3 on the list, behind Joe Burrow. The participants were ranked into tiers, and Jackson maintained his status as an elite talent. Jackson is coming off the best season of his career and one of the highest-graded quarterback campaigns in PFF history, finishing 2024 with a 94.9 overall grade. The two-time NFL MVP remains the most dynamic player at the position, blending elite arm talent with unmatched rushing ability. The only lingering blemish on his résumé is his postseason record. If Jackson can translate his regular-season dominance into playoff success and capture a Super Bowl, he'll cement his place among the NFL's all-time greats. Advertisement Jackson landed behind Patrick Mahomes, Burrow, and ahead of Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden Daniels. Last season, Jackson was a finalist for the Associated Press NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards. Leading Baltimore to its second straight AFC North title, Jackson was first-team All-Pro and set career highs for passing yards (4,172), touchdown passes (41), quarterback rating (119.6), and completions (316). Jackson led the NFL in rushing yards by a quarterback (915) and became the first player in league history with at least 4,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards. He also became the league's all-time rushing leader at quarterback with 6,173 yards, surpassing the previous record held by Michael Vick (6,109). Lamar Jackson declines to discuss contract negotiations during Ravens minicamp

Lamar Jackson returned to the Under Armour Performance Center to take part in Baltimore's first day of mandatory minicamp. The two-time AP MVP looked sharp, motivated, and happy to be back among his teammates. Jackson and the Ravens are in the midst of contract negotiations, and the star quarterback had no interest in discussing where those initial talks have led. During March's NFL owners' meetings in Florida, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Jackson is due for a new deal that will once again make him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Advertisement Former sports agent and CBS Sports lead analyst Joel Corry masterfully broke down the leverage Jackson again holds over the franchise with his 2026 and 2027 cap hits being unworkable for the organization. As Corry pointed out, Jackson just finished the second year of a five-year, $260 million contract signed with the Baltimore Ravens on May 4, 2023. Of this, $185 million is guaranteed, of which $135 million was fully guaranteed at signing. As of this article, Jackson is the 10th highest-paid quarterback in the NFL after Brock Purdy's new contract. Corry highlighted that based on recent trends with Dak Prescott and Josh Allen, Jackson can justify $65.5 million to $67 million per year" for a contract extension he signs in the coming months. With inflation and an adjustment for the 24.2% increase of the salary cap since he signed in 2023, Jackson could command upwards of $64.5 million per year.
