Blending infra with heritage: Nagpur Railway Station to shine as model for Amrit Bharat project

Time of India15-07-2025
Nagpur: The Nagpur Railway Station, a key hub under Central Railway's Nagpur Division, is set to become a model for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), blending modern infrastructure with its rich heritage.
The ongoing redevelopment project aims to transform the station into a passenger-friendly, inclusive, and world-class facility while preserving its historical essence, the heritage structure, dating back to the British era and its link to India's freedom struggle.
The project is progressing rapidly, with the foundation for an elevated concourse between lines 18 and 19 already complete, ensuring smooth and segregated passenger movement across platforms, said an official.
"The outdated structures were demolished, utilities relocated, and new station buildings are under construction on both the east and west sides," said the official.
"These upgrades will introduce modern amenities, including state-of-the-art waiting areas, lifts, and Divyang-friendly toilets designed for accessibility," he said.
A key highlight is the meticulous restoration of the station's heritage building.

Through façade cleaning, waterproofing, interior refurbishment, and architectural lighting, the historical structure will retain its legacy while complementing the modern upgrades. To enhance inclusivity, tactile paths are being installed to assist visually impaired passengers, aligning with the scheme's commitment to accessibility.
The revamped station will also celebrate Nagpur's cultural heritage through artistic murals, upgraded digital signage, and aesthetically designed wall cladding, enriching the passenger experience.
"These elements reflect Indian Railways' vision of merging modernisation with cultural preservation," said an official.
Once completed, Nagpur railway station will set a benchmark for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, offering seamless connectivity, world-class facilities, and an inclusive environment, the official stated.
This ambitious redevelopment underscores Indian Railways' dedication to transforming key stations into modern hubs while honoring their historical and cultural significance, positioning Nagpur as a shining example of railway infrastructure excellence in India.

Who is 19-year-old US influencer pilot Ethan Guo, and why is he stuck in Antarctica?

A daring globe-spanning mission has come to an icy halt for Ethan Guo , a 19-year-old pilot and Instagram influencer with more than 1.4 million followers. Guo set out to become the first person to fly solo to all seven continents while raising money for childhood cancer research — but his dream has been frozen in Antarctica , tangled in legal trouble after an unauthorized landing. Chilean authorities allege Guo veered off his approved flight path, touching down in a Chile-claimed section of Antarctica without clearance. Prosecutors accuse him of deliberately filing a false flight plan before making the detour. He has now spent weeks stranded at a remote Antarctic outpost, with his small aircraft grounded and living expenses running at about $600 a day, entirely at his own cost. If Guo fails to meet the deadline, the legal case will proceed. His lawyer claims he was on an 'exploratory flight' when mechanical issues forced the landing — an explanation prosecutors reject. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Undo If he complies, Guo could depart in early October, either aboard a military vessel or via a commercial flight from Punta Arenas. Until then, the journey he once livestreamed to inspire has become a global spectacle. All about Ethan Guo Live Events Guo's love of aviation began at 13, leading to a private pilot's license at 17 and an IFR rating, enabling him to fly solely by instruments. By September 2024, he had already visited all 48 contiguous U.S. states, crossed the Atlantic three times, and logged over 700 hours of flight time. His mission took on deeper meaning in 2021, when his cousin was diagnosed with blood cancer — inspiring him to combine adventure with advocacy. The trip began in Memphis, home to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and has so far taken him to six continents, where he has met child cancer patients and worked with experts to raise awareness. Now, the final leg — Antarctica — has become his biggest challenge yet, testing not just his piloting skills, but his resilience.
