How to get free games on PlayStation, PC and Xbox
There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but there are definitely ways to get free games. And let's be real, a free video game trumps an all-expenses-paid meal any day.

Getting hold of some free games isn't even all that difficult if you know the right places to look. Granted, the opportunity to pick up some brilliant games is a lot easier on PC than on consoles like Xbox and PlayStation. And on the Nintendo Switch? Freebies are an extreme rarity.
But with the rising cost of brand new video games ($80 games look set to become the latest industry standard this year), the value of a free game is ever-increasing, and if you're looking to play more without spending a single cent, here's the best places to look on each platform.
A powerful gaming rig is arguably the best way to experience video games, period. And those who choose to play primarily on PC also have the luxury of deeper sales (thank you, Steam!) and more options for finding places to pick up free games.
Your first port of call should be the Epic Games Store. This Steam rival has been running a free game a week promotion pretty much since launch in 2018. And this awesome incentive remains ongoing to this very day.
While often the freebie will be a smaller indie title, Epic has also given away big blockbusters over the years, including GTA 5, Batman Arkham Trilogy, Control, Bioshock The Collection, Tomb Raider Trilogy, Civilization 6, Death Stranding and many more AAA titles. The freebie refreshes every Thursday, so you should get into the habit of checking every single week.
The other best place to check is Amazon Prime Gaming. This comes free as part of an Amazon Prime membership and is a seriously overlooked benefit of the shopping service.

Past picks have ranged from the entire Mafia trilogy to Suicide Squad: Kill in the Justice League (dished out for free just a few months post-release). Prime Gaming's selection updates monthly, and I find there's always at least one game available worth playing.
Amazon Prime Gaming similarly gives away free Xbox games on occasion. While these aren't as frequently available as the platform's PC offerings, there's a handful each year, with previous picks including the recent Wolfenstein games from Xbox-owned Machine Games.
At the time of writing, you can get a free copy of Minecraft Legends on Xbox to celebrate the recent release of 'The Minecraft: Movie" and the epic Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. If you have an Xbox, you'll want to keep an eye on the Prime Gaming hub, just don't expect to be flooded with freebies.
Microsoft will also periodically make some older original Xbox and Xbox 360 games free on the Xbox Store. This has included cult-favorites Crackdown and Crackdown 2. However, these appear sporadically, making them harder to track and reliably depend on.
Otherwise, you might want to consider investing in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Yes, this is a dedicated gaming subscription, so it doesn't technically count as free games, but for $19 a month, you get access to a deep library of games.
Plus, Xbox has committed to adding its first-party titles to the service from day one, so you can subscribe right now and will get access to the likes of Doom: The Dark Ages and Fable the moment they release. There's a reason it's often called the best deal in gaming.
Scoring free games on PS4 and PS5 isn't an easy task. PlayStation has occasionally run promotional events such as Play at Home in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but otherwise, gaming for free on PlayStation typically means free-to-play (F2P) games like Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone and Overwatch 2.
However, Sony does offer its own Game Pass alternative, PlayStation Plus. You won't get PlayStation Studios games included on day one, but you do get instant access to a sizeable catalog of must-play games across PS4 and PS5.
The middle-tier, PlayStation Plus Extra, offers the best value for money, in my opinion, costing $14 a month. It allows you to experience phenomenal titles like The Last of Us Part I, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon's Souls, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves at a fraction of the cost compared to purchasing à la carte.

Watch: Marvel, James Bond among PlayStation State of Play highlights
June 5 (UPI) -- PlayStation has unveiled a number of upcoming video games, including a new fighting game from Marvel and a new take on James Bond. Marvel closed out PlayStation's State of Play livestream event in a big way Wednesday with the surprise announcement of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The title, which hails from acclaimed developer Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ) along with PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games, is an anime-inspired fighting game with four vs. four tag team battles. Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Storm, Ghost Rider, Doctor Doom and Ms. Marvel are the first characters confirmed for the game, with more on the way. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes to PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026. Earlier in the show, PlayStation released the trailer for 007: First Light from developer IO Interactive (Hitman). The game explores the origins of James Bond as a recruit in MI6's training program. The younger Bond sports a new look and is described by his superiors as reckless. Players take on the role of Bond as he attempts to track down 009. All of the hallmarks of a Bond film were present, including gadgets, cars and explosions. 007: First Light is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in 2026.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches today. Here's what to know
It's a big day for Nintendo fans. The gaming giant's new console, the Switch 2, arrives on store shelves globally after being announced in April — marking Nintendo's first major console launch since the original Switch arrived roughly eight years ago. And fans have clearly been waiting; 2.2 million people applied for a lottery system to buy the Switch 2 in Japan, according to a translation of an X post from Nintendo in April. Nearly all US Best Buy stores opened just after midnight to accommodate eager fans. The Switch 2, priced at $450 in the US, can be played in handheld mode, when propped up on a table; or on a TV when plugged in to its accompanying dock, like its predecessor. While the formula is the same as that of the original Switch, Nintendo has made significant upgrades to the hardware, including giving its new console a larger screen, upgraded versions of the Joy-Con controllers and new social features. Nintendo's decision to stick with a winning template for the Switch 2 is a testament to the original's popularity — but also a gamble that its success will endure for the better part of the next decade. While the 2017-era Switch introduced gamers to the concept of a home console that also serves as a portable game machine, the Switch 2 doubles down on that idea, amid growing competition from PC rivals like Valve and Lenovo that have emerged over the last three years. But Nintendo's catalogue of beloved characters and games could give it an edge against rivals. Gamers typically buy a Nintendo console because they want exclusive games, like 'Super Mario' or 'The Legend of Zelda,' despite owning another gaming device. 'The cross ownership rates historically between people that would own an Xbox or a PlayStation or a gaming PC, and who also own a Nintendo device, have always been pretty high compared to other systems,' Mat Piscatella, executive director for video game coverage at market research firm Circana, told CNN in April. The Switch 2 iterates its predecessor with several new features, including a Game Chat function that lets gamers communicate with other players by tapping a button on the console. Up to 12 players can chat at the same time, and players can share their screen in real time even when playing other games. Nintendo will also allow users to share certain games with other Switch owners while playing in person even if the other player doesn't own the title. Nintendo is also bringing some of its signature quirkiness to the Switch 2's social features; in addition to sharing their screen and video chatting with others, players' faces will pop up in a tiny bubble near their character in the Switch 2 edition of 'Super Mario Party: Jamboree' — an effort to make it feel like players are part of the game itself. However, it requires Nintendo's $55 camera that's sold separately. 'Being able to now take that (multiplayer) experience and virtually create it, we think, is something special, because we know more and more people are playing online,' Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser told CNN in April. The Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers, which attach to the Switch when it's being used as a handheld console or can be used separately, now support computer mouse-like functionality, unlike the previous version. That will allow players to drag the controllers across a surface — whether it be a table or person's lap — to control gameplay on screen. One new game called 'Drag x Drive' is designed around this idea; players pilot characters in powered-up wheelchair-like vehicles across a basketball court to shoot hoops by sliding and dragging Nintendo's new controllers. In the Switch 2 version of 'Metroid Prime 4: Beyond,' players will be able to move the Joy-Con like a mouse for more precise aiming when shooting enemies. 'People who may play on a PC with a mouse and a keyboard, that's an experience they can't replicate,' Bowser said. Nintendo has also given the console hardware a much-needed upgrade. The Switch 2 has a larger 7.9-inch display compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch screen, and the Joy-Cons now snap to the console magnetically, which should make them easier to attach or remove from the console. The console has eight times as much storage as its predecessor and the dock supports 4K resolution, two changes that should give players more room to store games and improve how they look when connected to a compatible TV. Nintendo is pointing to these changes to justify the console's higher price, which is significantly above the $300 original. 'All of that lends itself to creating a price point that we think is a value to the consumer, because they'll see the benefit in all these features,' Bowser said. 'But it's also, we think, a reasonable price based on what we've been able to build into the device itself.' Nintendo's major launch title for the Switch 2 is 'Mario Kart World,' a new version of its popular cart racing game that lets players drive off-track to explore the world around them. Games coming later this year include 'Donkey Kong Bonanza,' which arrives on July 17, 'Drag x Drive,' 'Kirby Air Riders' and 'Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.' The Switch 2 can also run games for the original Switch, although Nintendo says on its website that some games may not be fully compatible or supported. But Nintendo is launching Switch Edition 2 versions of existing games that enable those titles to take advantage of the Switch 2's new hardware with improved visuals and new gameplay modes. Switch 2 editions of 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' and 'Tears of the Kingdom' are available now, while 'Super Mario Party Jamboree,' 'Kirby and the Forgotten Land' and 'Pokémon Legends: Z-A' will get Switch 2 editions later this year. Yes, Nintendo still sells previous Switch models including the $200 Switch Lite, $300 standard Switch and $350 Switch OLED. That's a benefit for shoppers who don't want to shell out $450, but it could also eat into demand for Nintendo's new system — especially since many major new titles aren't out yet. 'The Switch being so successful is a double-edged sword,' Piscatella said ahead of the Switch 2 debut in April. 'On the one hand, a huge, great positive base to build on. On the other hand, a huge target to try to reach in terms of the same level of success.'

Tom Brady Releases GOAT Gummies
Tom Brady may have retired from playing football (twice!), but the man is clearly not looking to sit back, polish the seven Super Bowl rings he's won over his incredible 23-year NFL career, and relax. There is no "chill switch" on the all-time winningest quarterback in NFL history. He owns the wellness brand TB12, the apparel company Brady Brand, the media company Religion of Sports, and he is also a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Birmingham City Football Club. And on an upcoming episode of the How Success Happens podcast, he talked about his latest venture, GOAT Gummies, an organic vegan gummy snack he developed as part of his ongoing multi-year partnership with consumer goods and food delivery company Gopuff. Tom, as most people know, is extremely serious about nutrition, but he let his hair down (and took his shirt off) to get the word out about GOAT Gummies. I didn't get a ton of time with Tom, who spoke with me from what appeared to be a very stylish SUV. But as anyone who has ever watched him play against their team knows, this man can get an awful lot done in a very short amount of time. Dan Bova: Tom, I wanna start by apologizing to you for all the terrible things I've said to you through the television scream while you're playing the Jets. Tom Brady: Oh man, I'm sorry. You're a Jet fan. That must have been rough growing up. Holy cow. But you know what? I appreciate your loyalty. You never left them. There's something to be said for that. Talking about preparing for a football game, you've described yourself as "hyper competitive" and "a psychopath." Is that the same way you approach business? Actually, no. That's what I need help with. And that's why I have business partners who are psychopaths. They cross every t and dot the i's. I approached football in a very different way — I was into the nuances of the sport I understood so well. And I'm realizing that in business, those details are what matter, too. Especially against tough competition. Partnering with great people in the end is what matters the most. You've got to bet on people who have vision, experience, a great work ethic, and great teamwork. And you know that in business, just like sports, things don't always go your way. So you're always going to have to figure out ways to overcome adversity and beat the competition. Just assume that things will never work out, and that you always have to continue to reinvent yourself and find different ways to succeed. So even when things are good, always look for where the problems could come from and never take your eye off the ball. You don't want to spend all the time looking in the rearview mirror, but you'd better understand and learn from all your mistakes. And, you know, that windshield up ahead of you is big and wide, and that's where you need to focus, but also know that there are always people tracking you down. And it's the same way in sports. You've got to stay ahead, don't ever think you've got all the answers and things are figured out. I spoke with Shaquille O'Neal recently about how he set the tone in the locker room when he went to a new team. He said, "I tell them to do things my way or I'll punch them in the face." What's the Tom Brady approach? Well, I'm not 7' 2" and 350 pounds, so it's not necessarily my style. Mine is probably to introduce myself and to get to know the other person so that they can develop some trust in the way that I see things as well. I think there's a collaboration. It's always about understanding what people want and their motivations. That's what teamwork's all about. And that only comes from trust and shared experience. What does the word success mean to you? I think everyone has different versions of that. And your actions reflect your priorities. Everyone has different goals in life. Some people want to win seven Super Bowls, some people want to be in business, some people want to be in politics. When you wake up, whatever priorities you have, do you work your day toward what you want to accomplish? Do you eat, breathe and sleep it? And if it's an off day, is it a good off day? And if it's a travel day, is it a good travel day? So I think those are all the important things. And no punching anybody in the face.
