New disc golf course opens to public in Swindon

Yahoo2 days ago
A new disc golf course has opened at Basset Down Complex in Swindon.
The disc golf course is now open to the public and joins the other activities offered by the complex, including footgolf, a Toptracer driving range, padel courts, and a restaurant and bar.
Owner of Basset Down Complex Juliette Nutland said: "Disc golf is a fantastic addition to what we offer here.
"It's active, inclusive, easy to learn and perfect for making the most of the outdoors — whether you're with young children, teens, or adults.
"And being able to follow your game with a great meal or drink on the terrace makes it a brilliant full day out."

Like traditional golf or footgolf, the aim of disc golf is to complete each hole in as few shots as possible.
However, instead of balls and clubs, players throw discs towards raised metal baskets.
The complex's new disc golf course has two custom-designed courses built on the existing footgolf layout so the two sports can be played simultaneously.
Discs can be hired on-site, and players will receive a scorecard or can use an app called UDISC for digital scoring and maps.
After a round, players can relax and refuel in the on-site restaurant and bar, which features a balcony and outdoor patio area.
The restaurant serves a seasonal menu made with locally sourced ingredients, along with a dedicated children's menu, cakes, Rays Ice Cream, and snacks.
For those looking to enjoy a host of activities, Basset Down also offers footgolf, a driving range, and padel.
To play disc golf, players can either turn up on the day or book a time slot online or by phone.

La Liga move identified for 'exceptional' Liverpool striker

Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid is the most recent of them all and he is widely considered to be a traitor for the way he conducted himself. Moves for Michael Owen and Steve McManaman to the same destination weren't received too well either at the time. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Of course, Luis Suarez and Phillipe Coutinho move to Barcelona instead and the amount of money they brought to the club as part of their transfer fees certainly helped to cushion the blow of losing them, but their departures were still painful in their own way - both at the peak of their powers. However, a beneficial La Liga move for one of Liverpool's talents may on the cards to break the cycle. Liverpool set to negotiate with La Liga again The player linked with a potential move is the young Welsh striker Lewis Koumas, who has recently been receiving opportunities in the first-team during domestic cup matches under Arne Slot. As with Jayden Danns in the academy, he's keen to start knocking on the door for regular football. However, with new signing Will Wright having joined the Reds from Salford, the pair's task is not set to get any easier, especially since Hugo Ekitike has signed for £79m and Alexander Isak is favoured. So it is to be expected that his future is going to be assessed this summer and the world is his oyster.

Ollie Watkins: striker makes promising move towards Man United

Currently, Manchester United are locked in a 'big battle' with Newcastle over RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. Following Newcastle's improved £78 million offer, it has now emerged that United have submitted a bid of their own. According to Fabrizio Romano, INEOS' offer for the striker stands at £73.8 million, add-ons included. Sesko is yet to choose his preferred destination, but the transfer guru suggests United believe he is keen on the move. Who Sesko will choose is what everyone is waiting to see. While there is hope of a move to Old Trafford, his transfer to United remains anything but certain. United would be wise to have a reliable Plan B lined up to nurse a heartbreak should they miss out on the Bundesliga forward. If not Sesko, the feeling is that United will turn to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. Keen on Premier League-proven players, Watkins was packaged as head coach Ruben Amorim's preferred striker target, after missing out on his top choices. The 29-year-old's Premier League experience and proven record in front of goal could yet be just what United crave. But there were obstacles in the chase. Villa were reportedly reluctant to sell, and the figures involved (considering his age) were not encouraging. Those issues saw United shift focus to Sesko, but if they fail to land the 22-year-old, Watkins may still be the fallback. Encouragingly, obstacles appear to be gradually clearing in United's pursuit of Watkins. Watkins and what he thinks of his future at Villa Park The Sun have dropped a report where they claim the Englishman, keen to quit Villa Park and take the next step in his career, 'is ready to step into the void if Man Utd are unable to lure Benjamin Sesko to the club.' The UK outlet goes on to state that 'his wishes may overlap with Aston Villa's, who also face a battle to keep their summer spending within PSR limits.' Villa were not initially keen to sell him, as the report reiterates: 'Unai Emery had been keen to sell the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey to meet the Premier League's requirements, but have yet to receive the interest they had hoped for.' Now, they may be forced to sell, with £40–£50 million reportedly being enough. That is the kind of update Man United would have loved to hear from Villa Park (but Sesko remains the priority) The mere hint that Villa may soften their 'not for sale' stance over Watkins is a boost for United. It should be some comfort that, if generational talent Sesko slips through their fingers, like Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres did, there is at least one decent option out there, keen to tell them, 'Sign me.' Either way, all eyes and all focus should be on Sesko. He may yet decide Ollie Watkins' fate. online polls Follow us on Bluesky: @

Birmingham 2026 impact programme launched at Alexander Stadium

Birmingham 2026's Impact programme 'Beyond' was officially launched at Alexander Stadium. It set out the vision for how the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham 2026 can act as a catalyst for positive, lasting change across Birmingham and the West Midlands. While Birmingham 2026 will deliver a world-class athletics event — the first time the European Championships have ever been staged in the UK — the organisers are also working in close partnership with stakeholders to support wider city and regional benefits, guided by a shared Impact Plan. 'These Championships are much more than a single week of elite athletics,' emphasised Royston Hoggarth, Chair of the Birmingham 2026 Stakeholder Board. 'With the right focus and partnerships, we can help build momentum around projects that leave a legacy long after the final medal is won. 'Beyond is our shared commitment to making that difference — with the Championships as a platform for change.' As part of the launch, UK Sport and the London Marathon Foundation have announced a £90,000 investment to support local delivery partners Access Sport and StreetGames. The funding will expand opportunities for young people to get active and involved in community sport - a first example of how Beyond is already helping galvanise real impact ahead of the Championships. 'The Beyond programme will continue to build on the legacy achieved through the Commonwealth Games,' commented Cllr Sharon Thompson, Birmingham City Council Deputy Leader. 'We will not only see the eyes of the world on the wonderful Alexander Stadium but also on how we use major events to provide an inclusive and welcoming experience for our city's residents and visitors. 'Whilst helping to shape the programme we have ensured that input from Birmingham community groups on their experiences around the Commonwealth Games has been considered, which is so important in ensuring we achieve the positive impact we're aiming for. "I look forward to seeing how the various initiatives progress and meeting those involved.'' The Beyond framework is shaped around three central pillars of providing community benefit through athletics and running, delivering an environmentally conscious Championships, and improving accessibility and inclusion for all. Activities aligned with Beyond include support for Daily Mile events in schools, diversifying junior parkruns, creating new apprenticeship and volunteering pathways, and encouraging sustainable travel for fans and participants. Each initiative is delivered by or in partnership with specialist organisations, with Birmingham 2026 playing a convening and amplifying role. Chris Moss, Birmingham 2026 Project Lead for the Impact Plan, said: 'We've built Beyond as a framework to connect partners, amplify great work already happening, and inspire new activity that aligns with our shared goals. 'The support from UK Sport and the London Marathon Foundation shows what's possible when we use major events to generate real community benefit.' Esther Britten, Head of Events and External Affairs at UK Sport, added: 'The hosting of major events has a unique platform to power positive change. UK Sport believes the right partnerships deliver meaningful, positive and lasting social impact. 'The Beyond programme and our collaborative partnership with London Marathon Foundation, alongside Access Sport and StreetGames, have the potential to make a real difference in local communities. 'The staging of the European Athletics Championships 2026 can leave a lasting legacy in Birmingham and the West Midlands and the nation as a whole.' The Birmingham 2026 team, alongside Birmingham City Council, the West Midlands Combined Authority, UK Sport, and other delivery partners, will continue to develop and signpost new programmes under the Beyond umbrella in the run-up to the Championships. 'Major events like the European Athletics Championships boost our economy and provide a global showcase for all the fantastic things our region has to offer,' said Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands. 'But the real win comes after the crowds and TV cameras have gone home. The Beyond programme provides an opportunity to harness the energy and excitement of this event and channel it into a lasting programme of positive change, which will deliver improved health and wellbeing for people across all our communities and change lives for the better.' Mike Diaper, Group Funding and Impact Director at the London Marathon Foundation, added: 'We're proud to be launching this collaborative funding with UK Sport, aimed at inspiring lasting activity in the West Midlands. 'With the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on the horizon, this funding is about more than a single event — it's about providing inclusive, community-rooted opportunities that will inspire children and young people to develop an enjoyment of sport and physical activity that will last a lifetime.'
