LSU recognizes it's a little late to Ainsworth's recruitment but during a recent visit position coach Brad Davis and others made it blatantly clear they want to be a top contender for the four-star offensive tackle from Biloxi, Miss.
Ainsworth loved his trip to Baton Rouge and while NC State, Nebraska, Florida State, Ole Miss and Liberty have been more involved, the Tigers can be a major contender down the stretch.
A whole host of major programs are involved with the 2027 four-star cornerback from Cincinnati (Ohio) Anderson as Ohio State, Alabama and many others are in the mix. LSU will be a 'serious option' moving forward as well. Alston loved his time with position coach Corey Raymond and he's fully aware of all the receiver and defensive back history within the program.
Oregon is 'very high' on Bowens' list following a recent visit to Eugene where he loved, basically, everything. The 2027 three-star defensive end from Sutter, Calif., loved the coaches, their youthful energy, their attention to detail, how they treat their athletes and even the weather. Oregon is the program to beat.
Kansas State, Boise State and Arkansas are going to play a role in Collins' recruitment but Texas Tech is going to be right there as well, especially after the three-star offensive tackle from Amarillo (Texas) West Plains loved his visit to Lubbock over the weekend.

If the Red Raiders land Collins it will be because of his relationship with coach Joey McGuire as Collins believes he's the best head coach he's met through the recruiting process.
After his visit to Colorado, Deck got all the answers to the questions he had about the Buffaloes. The main message was if he takes care of everything on and off the field, then he will be rewarded.
Penn State, Michigan and Baylor are the other three standouts for the three-star safety from Frisco (Texas) Lone Star.
A new offer from Texas is definitely big as the 2027 four-star cornerback from Miami (Fla.) Norland is excited since the Longhorns made the playoff last season. But Miami is still the favorite.

It could be nearly impossible to beat the Hurricanes since they're down the road and they've now been ahead for some time.

It's super early for the 2028 quarterback from Tustin, Calif., but Oregon is tracking as the early front-runner because there's 'nothing like the coaches' in Eugene and he loves the development and growth he sees from the players there.
Washington and Penn State are two other early standouts but Oregon has an edge right now.
Florida is the leader for the four-star linebacker from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy but Michigan is right there as well as the Wolverines are 'just short of neck-and-neck' with the Gators. Colorado could be moving up quickly as well since Forkpa has never laughed so much with a coaching staff during his weekend visit and he loves position coach Andre' Hart and all the NFL experience the coaches have in Boulder.
UCLA is working hard to keep the 2027 three-star defensive tackle from Hesperia (Calif.) Oak Hills home and his recent visit to Westwood went really well as the event was super fun and the coaches were 'transparent about everything.'
The Bruins are right there with Oregon, Notre Dame and Utah as the early favorites.
UCLA, Utah and BYU are the three standouts for the Provo (Utah) Timpview four-star safety so if he leaves the state, the Bruins look best. Galea'i loved a recent trip to Westwood as he saw the family-oriented culture there and the idea of setting himself up in football and for life after football. But it could still be tough to pull him out of Utah.
After backing off his Florida pledge in April, the four-star safety from Orlando (Fla.) First Academy was in Oregon over the weekend and the Ducks are starting to really build a strong relationship there.
Jackson loved the background of the coaching staff as Oregon joins Nebraska, LSU, Florida and Miami as the new front-runners.
A Mother's Day breakfast at UCLA really stood out to Ili and his family and was the 'home run' moment of his time in Westwood as the Bruins and USC continue to battle it out for the four-star linebacker from Kahuku, Hawaii.
It's big that Ili is related to Nico and Madden Iamaleava and got to do the visit with his cousin Malaki Soliai-Tui as the family feel at UCLA was clear.
Auburn has made a major impression on Javorsky, who landed the SEC offer without much more big attention in his recruitment, but now others are coming around as UCLA is his newest offer and it's a big one.
The San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills interior offensive lineman has a great relationship with UCLA position coach Andy Kwon and Javorsky was at a loss for words now that the Bruins are involved.
The four-star running back from Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca Raton has been committed to Miami since March and the Hurricanes have always been the front-runner.
But Alabama won't stop coming after him and sent two reps to meet with Mallory earlier this week. The message was that Mallory remains a 'high priority' for the Crimson Tide, his character aligns with the program and he's physically ready to play early.

It's 'more than likely' a visit to Tuscaloosa happens for the Miami commit.
UCLA is definitely a front-runner for the three-star defensive end from Orem, Utah, especially after his recent visit and his opportunity to spend time with assistant coaches Jethro Franklin and Ikaika Malloe. Their ability to develop players for the NFL was a big standout for Moala and could help the Bruins down the road.
Spafford did not get to meet Colorado coach Deion Sanders, who was dealing with an emergency, but he had an 'amazing' visit to Colorado over the weekend. The four-star Georgia receiver commit from Mission Viejo, Calif., loves how that coaching staff develops players and lets freshmen play.

Miami is still the biggest threat to flip Spafford, but Washington and Colorado are right there, too.

The high three-star defensive tackle from Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek loved the hospitality at UCLA over the weekend and the message that 'everyone on the defense eats' for the Bruins.
The position is taught differently at his high school than at UCLA but Umu-Cais doesn't mind since in Westwood it's more of an NFL feel on the defensive line. He's keeping all options open and not hinting at front-runners, but the Bruins are very clearly a contender.
Ohio State, LSU and Michigan have been the three front-runners in Webb's recruitment and more could be added for the four-star safety from Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek. Webb didn't have a chance to talk with coach Deion Sanders during his Colorado visit because of an emergency, but the four-star did sit down a lot with defensive coordinator Robert Livingston. Webb feels Colorado is 'like the training ground for the NFL both mentally and physically.'

Brumbies' Super Rugby playoff journey continues: Can they break the New Zealand hoodoo?

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The ACT Brumbies will become the latest Australian team to take on the New Zealand playoff hoodoo in Super Rugby after beating the Wellington-based Hurricanes in Canberra. The record for Australian teams in playoff matches in New Zealand now stands at 0-20 after the Queensland Reds were beaten 32-12 by the Crusaders in Christchurch. Advertisement The Brumbies will face the Chiefs in Hamilton in next weekend's semifinals after the Chiefs were beaten 20-19 by the Auckland-based Blues who scored and converted a try after the fulltime siren. The Chiefs still progressed to the next playoff round as the highest-ranked loser but have lost top seeding to the Crusaders. The match between the Brumbies and Hurricanes might have been a dead rubber if the Crusaders and Chiefs, the top-two seeds, both had won their playoff matches. Then, both teams in Canberra would have progressed to the semifinals either as the winner or highest-ranked loser. The Hurricanes title hopes have now foundered in Canberra in three of the last four years after they lost to the Brumbies in quarterfinals in 2022 and 2023. 'We didn't get the job done tonight. That Brumbies team really took it up a notch and showed why they've been so successful here,' Hurricanes captain DuPlessis Kirifi said. Advertisement The Brumbies again are the last Australian team standing in the playoffs after reaching the semifinals for the third straight time. 'We're just looking at the Chiefs in Hamilton next week,' coach Stephen Larkham said. 'But we're hoping that the Blues can knock off the Crusaders and we come back here in two weeks for a grand final.' Crusaders beat the chill Brute force and home advantage were key factors in the Crusaders' win over the Reds. The Reds had to come from 23 degrees and fine weather in Brisbane to 4 degrees and a rain-soaked pitch in Christchurch. While they anticipated the conditions and tried to replicate them in training, they couldn't fully prepare for a match played in conditions in which the Crusaders excel. Advertisement 'Typical Christchurch weather: cold, wet and dark and we love it,' said Crusaders scrumhalf Noah Hotham whose brilliant second half try spelled the end of the Reds' hopes and improved the Crusaders winning record in home playoffs to 30-0. The Reds couldn't match the power of the Crusaders' scrum and conceded penalties which gave the Crusaders a footing in Reds territory. At the same time, the Reds took too long to match the Crusaders' numbers at breakdowns. Captain David Havili was a force in the collision area which the Crusaders also dominated. 'They were all over us at the breakdown and collision area and we just couldn't get into our cycle,' Reds captain Tate McDermott said. 'They're really good at disrupting your ball and slowing it down and they did a good job of that.' Advertisement Hotham may have helped his All Blacks chances with a strong individual performance behind a dominant pack. Blues beat the odds As Rieko Ioane faced the television cameras after the Blues beat the New South Wales Waratahs to qualify for the Super Rugby playoffs, the Blues and All Blacks center said 'as the saying goes, shouldn't have let us get one.' It was a nod to history. In 2004 the Boston Red Sox came from 3-0 down to beat the New York Yankees and win their first World Series in 86 years. At 3-0 down Sox outfielder Kevin Millar said 'don't let us get one.' And in the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference finals, the Boston Celtics were 3-0 down against the Miami Heat. 'Don't let us get one,' Celtics player Jaylen Brown said before his team rallied to force game seven. Advertisement From Ioane, it was prophetic. After 'getting one' by making the playoffs in sixth place, the Blues have now stretched their defense of the Super Rugby title into the semifinals. The Chiefs were favored to win Saturday after beating the Blues twice during the regular season. But the Blues kept their season alive with a converted try after the fulltime siren. ___ AP rugby:

Tigers 'slam' West Virginia in super regional opener

SATURDAY'S GAME — LSU 16, West Virginia 9. SUNDAY'S GAME — 5 p.m. / ESPN2 For all its thrills and chills over the years, LSU had never hit matching grand slams in the NCAA tournament's super regional era. Mark another one off the bucket list as the Tigers used two of them — bases-loaded bombs by Steven Milam and Josh Pearson — to slam West Virginia 16-9 in the Baton Rouge super regional opener. They came in handy as West Virginia actually out-hit LSU 11-8, but the Tigers took advantage of eight walks and five hit batters and scored 11 of their runs on just three big swings of the bat. Derek Curiel's 3-run homer in the fourth inning — the Tigers first hit of the game — gave LSU the lead for good, 3-1, and Steven Milam and Josh Pearson hit their grand slams in the fifth and sixth innings respectively. 'I thought it was a complete performance,' LSU coach Jay Johnson said. 'The hits didn't come the first few innings, but made the pitcher work — that was really important. 'Those free bases helped … set the table … It's like turnovers in football, you want to captilalize on them and we certainly did today.' It left the Tigers (47-15) one win away from reaching the College World Series for the 20th time in school history. The Tigers will likely send their other ace, righthander Anthony Eyanson (10-2, 2.50), to the mound for Sunday's 5 p.m. game. The Mountaineers (44-15) are in a super regional for just the second time and looking for a first-ever trip to Omaha. With LSU's efficient use of eight hits, the Tigers didn't need a vintage performance from ace lefthander Kade Anderson. It hardly mattered that he gave up season highs both with seven runs and nine hits. 'I wasn't commanding the fastball and working off of that as well,' said Anderson, who took a line drive off his forearm in the second inning but said it didn't bother him. 'They put up a couple of good at-bats but I don't think it was them, bit was just me not making the pitchers when I had to.' He pitched seven innings and left with a 16-7 lead that allowed the Tigers to finish the game with the nether regions of the bullpen and not use any of the better arms that might be needed to finish the three-game series. 'Proud of Kate,' Johnson said. 'That was not easy. I think everybody can attest that watching the game wasn't easy. Giving everything he had on ever pitch was awesome. 'The sixth and seventh innings, just getting those two innings checked off without having to use somebody else out of the bullpen becomes very valuable, not just today, in tomorrow's game and the rest of the series. 'We won, he's happy we won. He's ticked off because he gave up some hits and runs. Those are usually your highest performers that have that competitive level.' All 16 LSU runs were scored over the fourth, fifth and six innings. LSU led 10-1 after five innings and 16-5 after six innings. Curiel added a pair of RBI singles to finish with five RBIs on a 3-for-3 day with three runs scored. Chris Stanfield added a late 2-run single. At least one Mountaineer wasn't discouraged. 'They could have beat us 40-0 and tomorrow it's still 0-0 at first pitch,' said DH Sam White, who went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. 'It's a series. We don't have to crawl back like it's a regional and win four more. We just got to win two games.' Johnson certainly isn't assuming anything. But, he said, 'There's something I feel like I learned in the game today that we need to make some movement on to be better prepared for tomorrow. So use that time well.'
