Boy George issues sassy message to JK Rowling on live TV after transgender row
Boy George has hit back at Harry Potter author JK Rowling live on ITV's Lorraine following their online feud over her widespread anti-trans commentary
Boy George hit back at JK Rowling live on Lorraine this morning, as he addressed their on going social media feud. It comes after the two engaged in a spat on X, following the author's anti-trans commentary.
Last week, Boy George called the Harry Potter author a "rich bored bully," leading to a scathing response.
She later continued: "For more than half my life I was a regular anonymous person. Some of those years were spent in poverty. That's why I understand the importance of single-sex spaces for women who're reliant on state-funded services," as she continued to speak about her stance against trans-spaces.
Addressing the feud on Lorraine this morning, George didn't hold back, as he said: "I think it's hilarious that I'm having a row with someone I've never met and probably never will meet.
"In the movies she creates this beautiful magical world and in real life she's a muggle so it's very disappointing to find out that in a way it's not true," The Karma Chameleon singer said live on the ITV morning show.
The star then proceeded to address the Harry Potter author, who he believed was watching the show. "I bet she's watching now, morning," he said with a sarcastic wave. He didn't stop there however, as he exclaimed: "Get over it!"
Prior to his message to the author, Lorraine praised the star for his support for the transgender community.
Speaking on his childhood, George said: "When I was a kid, when I was seven, it was obvious to everyone that I was gay, obviously I didn't know what it was. Parents often know but they don't say anything and think if they don't talk about it, it will go away.
"Usually with trans kids, it's the kid that informs the adult through different behaviour. This idea that a parent pushes their kid to be trans is so ridiculous.
"I've got friends who've got kids that are trans and it's a nightmare and they struggle; 'should I do the right thing? Should I wait until the kid is eighteen or twenty one,' all of that stuff is real life stuff. It's not two celebrities bickering on the internet.'
Lorraine later continued: "Having friends who are trans who are going through a really tough time, let's just be fair, let's talk and we can all have our points of view but at the end of the day we're all just people blundering through and trying to get on with our lives."
Earlier this week, Rowling hit back at George's "rich bored bully" comments in a lengthy statement. In part, she said: "There are many differences between us, George, but some are particularly relevant to this debate.
"1. You're a man and I'm a woman. 2. You've been wealthy and famous since your early 20s. I didn't become well known until I was well over 30."
Later, she continued: "For more than half my life I was a regular anonymous person. Some of those years were spent in poverty.
"That's why I understand the importance of single-sex spaces for women who're reliant on state-funded services. That's why I understand why mixed public changing rooms are a problem for women."
Boy George isn't the only celebrity to hit out at the author, who has received widespread criticism for her views. Earlier this week, she lashed out at Sir Stephen Fry after he accused her of being "radicalised by TERFs".
Fry, who is the narrator for the popular books, previously claimed the author was a "friend of mine" and said he wouldn't "abandon" friendships despite even though his trans friends were "deeply upset" by Rowling.
However, he recently called her a 'lost cause' on the podcast The Show People this month. He said: "She has been radicalised, I fear, and it may be she has been radicalised by TERFs, but also by the vitriol that is thrown at her.
However, JK Rowling was quick to shut down claims they were ever friends, as she took to X to say: "It is a great mistake to assume that everyone who claims to have been a friend of mine was ever considered a friend by me."

George Clooney and wife Amal were in good spirits on Wednesday as they attended the King's Trust Award at Buckingham Palace. The Hollywood icon, 64, and his human rights lawyer wife, 47, dressed to impress as they attended the reception celebrating the winners at the palace. George and Amal couldn't contain their smile as King Charles III chatted away to the couple before greeting guests. The actor cut a dapper figure in a grey suit which he teamed with a matching open collar shirt. Meanwhile Amal made sure to turn heads in a black off the shoulder gown which she teamed with towering heels and a gold clutch. The Clooneys have long supported the work of The King's Trust, formerly known as The Prince's Trust. The Amal Clooney Women's Empowerment Award, launched in 2019 with the Trust, celebrates the achievements of inspirational female youngsters around the world. Amal posed in a snap with Alice Ngitira who was nominated for a King's Trust award for her work with young people and her dedication to overcoming mental health challenges. She was recognised for her crafting workshops which she developed when she was hospitalised. Barrister Amal is known for her work defending women's and human rights issues across the world, while her and George co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice back in 2016. The non-profit organisation focuses on defending human rights, particularly free speech and women's rights, by providing free legal aid and advocating for policy changes. The King met with the winners of the eight UK categories during the day as well as the three winners of the three global categories ahead of the awards ceremony, which will be held at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday. Also mingling with the royal was make-up mogul Charlotte Tilbury, who looked to enjoy a spirited chat with the royal, and national treasure Dame Joanna Lumley. Actor Joseph Fiennes, presenter Declan Donnelly, Fearne Cotton, Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley and members of girl group the Sugababes were also present at the glitzy reception. The star-studded reception greeted a beaming Charles after he had appeared to enjoy the performance by The Herds, a group of life-sized animal puppets operated by artists at the event earlier this afternoon. The contraptions slowly made their way down a staircase in the Grand Hall before the Gorilla moved towards the King and held out its arm. The public art group are travelling from the Congo Basin to the Artic Circle, to raise awareness of humanity's bond with the natural world and the impact of climate change. They have just arrived in London ahead of a series of performances at landmarks throughout the capital this weekend.

According to Super TV, the battle rounds will be making a welcomed comeback. In recent years, the format of the UK version of the singing contest has seen the coaches decide who they want to take through to the final after all of the auditions have aired. The reintroduction of the battle rounds will mean all the singers have to go head-to-head to continue in the competition. Previously disgruntled fans will be delighted with the news, as it means the strongest singer should win the show. The last time the battle rounds featured on The Voice UK was in 2021. The segment was ditched for the 2022 series of the show - and even judge Sir Tom Jones was not happy. Speaking at the 2024 launch, the 84-year-old Welsh star told Virgin Radio that not having the battle rounds made the coaches' job much harder. He said: "[Before] they'd have to battle it out, so then the strongest one would win. "But the battles are not there any more, so now the callbacks come very quickly, and you don't really get a chance to work with the [singers] as much as we used to. The Voice 2025 series delayed until next year after signing up new US superstar judge 'I wish – not to go against the producers – but I think it could be longer, the singers could have more time with us." The Voice UK will return to screens next year, as it is taking a break for 2025. Earlier this month, it was revealed Kelly Rowland has replaced LeAnn Rimes as one of the celebrity coaches. ITV's signing of the Grammy-winning Destiny's Child singer, 44, was announced just before filming for the 2026 series gets underway this summer. Kelly, who previously judged on The X Factor UK in 2011 and coached on The Voice Australia, said she is 'excited' to be joining the panel. LeAnn, 42, left the show earlier this year to refocus on her US career and is set to appear as a mentor on the American version of the format alongside Sheryl Crow. Kelly said: 'I am excited to join The Voice UK as a coach, and am looking forward to working with the excellent and passionate coaches the show is known for. "I can't wait to hear all the new talent and to go to battle for my team. Let's go!' Kelly will appear in the spinning chairs alongside returning coaches Sir Tom, 50, and McFly's Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, both 39. 6 LeAnn Rimes has quit as a Voice UK coach after one series Credit: Rex 6 The country music star wants to refocus on her career in the US Credit: Getty

The ITV star, 30, splits her time between the London and the Spanish island while hosting the series. Taking to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Maya wowed in a tiny white string bikini as she posed for a sizzling selfie. She then shared a snap of a dreamy table on a balcony that overlook the stunning views of the Spanish landscape. This was followed by another photo of some delicious sushi and wine with the ITV crew. This year, the TV show host is drawing on a wardrobe of vintage pieces pulled from clothes designer archives. So far, Maya has worn a vintage Versace swimsuit and a 1998 Dolce & Gabbana dress. It comes after Maya's rumoured romance with Ruben Dias was finally confirmed, following the pair's public display of affection at KSI's Baller League event in April. The presenter and the footballer, 28, are thought to have been secretly dating for several months after Maya first caught his eye when they met at the European Music Awards (EMAs) in November. She has since been seen at multiple football games over the last few months, watching Dias live in action for Man City. In April, the pair were pictured for the first time together kissing and cuddling at the football event, held at the Copper Box Arena, in a video captured by The Sun. The footage showed them with their arms around each other before he leant into her neck for a peck, with Ruben flying under the radar in casual clothes and a cap. A source told the publication of that night: 'Maya and Ruben seemed very close, very loved up and were clearly very comfortable with each other.
