Lyons also revealed he had a conversation with the Secretary of State Hilary Benn but he said what they discussed would remain response to a a question by another Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson about whether he had spoken to any of the migrant families temporarily house in Larne Leisure Centre, he said he had offered to and it was up to them if they wanted to meet.

All British people in Israel told to 'register' to get information on leaving country Tensions are high between Israel and Iran Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has told Britons in Israel to register their presence in the country as soon as possible (Image: Suzanne Plunkett/PA ) All British nationals in Israel should register their presence in the country with the Foreign Office, David Lammy has said. The Foreign Secretary said it would mean they could get information on how to leave the country. He said the Government's 'first priority' was the welfare of British nationals. Mr Lammy said a rapid deployment team was also being sent to Egypt and border crossings were being posted on the Foreign Office website. In a statement to the Commons, Mr Lammy said: 'Today I can update the House that we are asking all British nationals in Israel to register their presence with the FCDO, so that we can share important information on the situation and leaving the country.' He said the ability to support British nationals in Iran was restricted due to closed airspace. He said: 'Israel and Iran have closed their airspace until further notice, and our ability therefore to provide support in Iran is extremely limited. British nationals in the region should closely monitor our travel advice for further updates.' Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer echoed the advice. He said the UK and other G7 countries were issuing advice to their citizens in Israel. Article continues below He said: 'All of us are giving advice to our citizens for British nationals in Israel, we're giving advice today to register their presence, so there will be a portal for that. So I think all countries also taking the necessary measures on a protected basis.' Sir Keir said Israel and Iran would be the 'number one issue' at the G7 in Canada, where he currently is, and that there is a 'consensus for de-escalation' among leaders at the summit. Ahead of talks, he said 'the number one issue here is obviously the conflict, particularly in the Middle East'. He added: 'I spoke to President Trump just in recent days, and, of course, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and to pretty well all of the G7 leaders yesterday. Article continues below 'And I do think there's a consensus for de-escalation. Obviously, what we need to do today is to bring that together and to be clear about how it is to be brought about. 'But the risk of the conflict escalating is obvious, I think, and the implications, not just for the region but globally are really immense, so the focus has to be on de-escalation.' Asked if he accepted that Israel does not appear willing to de-escalate, he said: 'It is really important that we focus on de escalation, because the risks of the conflict escalating are obvious across the region, beyond the region, the impact that this could and probably will have on Gaza, which is a tinderbox, and, of course, the impact on the economy.'

Britons in Israel are being urged to register their presence with the UK Government amid fears the conflict with Iran could continue to escalate. Sir Keir Starmer has announced that a 'portal' is being created so that Britons who are in the country can formally log where they are. The information could then be used if the Prime Minister decided it was necessary to evacuate Britons from Israel, though that is not yet government policy. The Foreign Office is urging Britons not to travel to Israel and is working on contingency plans should the conflict continue. Speaking at the G7 summit in Canada, Sir Keir said there was 'consensus' among world leaders attending that de-escalation was needed. He said: 'The number one issue here is obviously the conflict, particularly in the Middle East. 'And in recent days, I've spoken to President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and leaders across the region. And last night I had the opportunity to speak to most of the G7 leaders as they're arriving here. 'There's shared concern about the risk of escalation, obviously, shared concern about the nuclear program of Iran, but absolutely a focus on how we de-escalate this and that will be a central focus as we go into the talks today. Get that de-escalation. 'And, of course, all of us are giving advice to our citizens. For British nationals in Israel, we're giving advice today to register their presence, so there will be a portal for that. So I think all countries [are] also taking the necessary measures on a protected basis.' 'Restraint and de-escalation' Iran fired further missiles at Israel overnight, while Israel's military claimed to have 'full air superiority' over Tehran as strikes continued. The escalating conflict will be high on the agenda as leaders from the G7 group of wealthy democracies meet in Canada. Sir Keir called for 'restraint and de-escalation' during a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Kananaskis on Sunday evening. Mr Trump is reported to have vetoed an Israeli plan to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Downing Street would not be drawn on whether the UK was aware of the plan to assassinate the Iranian leader. A No 10 spokesman said: 'We wouldn't comment on private conversations or intelligence matters. 'We are concerned by further escalation, which is in no-one's interest, and we're working closely with our allies to press for a return to diplomacy.' The UK has been calling for de-escalation, and Sir Keir confirmed on Saturday that more RAF jets would be sent to the region for 'contingency support'. Foreign Office sources told The Telegraph the Government would also send 'Rapid Deployment Teams' to Egypt and Jordan to assist British nationals who choose to leave Israel by road into neighbouring countries. British embassy staff are already working on the ground to assist Britons who have fled Israel, but the additional staff from London will help those who have already left the country with onward travel back to the UK. The journey between Israel and other countries, across the Jordan river or into the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, will be taken at an individual's discretion and the UK is not providing evacuation shuttle buses out of Israeli cities. A Government source said the journey may be 'perilous' given the security situation and risk of further bombings by Iran. There are also no plans to run evacuation flights between Israel and the UK because the airspace is closed to non-military traffic. When the airspace re-opens, British officials expect commercial airlines to begin running scheduled flights immediately.
