Marcus Rashford roasted by ESPN pundit amid reported Barcelona transfer
After not staying with Aston Villa past his loan stint, the question surrounding Rashford is where he would play. Rashford showed signs of returning to form, tallying four goals and six assists in 17 total appearances for Aston Villa.
Instead of staying in the Premier League, though, Rashford is reportedly on his way to Spain to play for another prominent European club, Barcelona. Nonetheless, for ESPN FC's Steve Nicol, it's not a move that the attacker deserves.

"The one thing that I don't like about it is it gives you a bad taste in your mouth because professional football is the—it's a tough business," Nicol said on Saturday's edition of ESPN FC. "But you know what? Sometimes you got to earn your luck, and he hasn't earned it. He's a lucky, lucky boy.
"From a professional point of view, he doesn't deserve this. He doesn't deserve to be going to a great club like Barcelona, the way he's conducted himself over the last 12 months. Even when he went to Villa, as Craig said, he wasn't particularly great."
Moreover, Nicol noted that Rashford hasn't improved his conduct on and off the field to earn another move to a club that's at the level of Manchester United in terms of prestige and popularity.
"Can we sit here and say, 'You know what? Marcus Rashford has done everything to try and make himself on the field a success with either Aston Villa or Manchester United—maybe a little bit more Villa, but with Manchester United.' And it's 100% no," Nicol added.
"He absolutely has done all the wrong things, has said all the wrong things, has acted in the wrong manner, has been unprofessional—been in Ireland the night before training."
It will be interesting to see if Rashford, should his move to Barcelona become official, can find his 2022-23 form in which he scored 30 goals and posted 12 assists in 56 total appearances for Manchester United.

New Raiders coach Pete Carroll confident they are 'gonna win a bunch' this season after recent struggles
Pete Carroll isn't holding back on how great he thinks the Raiders are going to be this fall. The longtime coach is now leading the way in Las Vegas, and he's extremely confident that he'll turn the franchise around, and quickly. 'We gotta win a ton. We've gotta win a bunch of games … I've been winning 10 games a year for 20 years or something now,' Carroll said on Tuesday. 'What are my expectations? We're gonna win bunch, and I don't care who hears that. It doesn't matter to me.' Now, it's easy to want to ignore a coach speaking this way at the start of training camp. Honestly, it'd be way more surprising if a coach wasn't exuding confidence at this point of the season. Advertisement [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] But Carroll is taking over a franchise that has been in, well, turmoil for years now. After 14 seasons and a Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll split with the franchise after the 2023 campaign. He was then hired to replace Antonio Pierce in Las Vegas in January, which makes him the team's fifth head coach over the last five seasons. They also parted with general manager Tom Telesco after just one season, too. The Raiders went just 4-13 last season and finished last in their division. They've made the playoffs just once over the last eight years, and they haven't won a postseason game since their run to the Super Bowl during the 2002 campaign. So the Raiders opted to bring in Carroll to try and right the ship. Based on his track record — he had a stretch where the Seahawks won double-digit games eight times over nine seasons, and he missed the playoffs just four times in Seattle — it's a decent strategy. Carroll brought in Chip Kelly to be his offensive coordinator, too. The pair will start to build an offense around quarterback Geno Smith and rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, among others. The Raiders struck deals with veteran safety Jamal Adams and cornerback J.T. Woods on Tuesday afternoon, too, which should only bolster their defense. Advertisement The Raiders have plenty of work to do to legitimately turn things around. But, at least at the start of camp, there's reason to believe they are on the right path. And Carroll has no doubt that he'll get his new group there.

Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu retires after 12 seasons
New Orleans Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu announced his retirement on Tuesday after a 12-year NFL career. The Arizona Cardinals selected Mathieu with the 69th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and spent his first five seasons with the team. Following his time in Arizona, he had stints with the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs before spending the past three seasons with the Saints. Advertisement 'As I hang up my cleats, I'm filled with gratitude as I close this chapter of my life and officially retire from the game that's shaped me in every way,' Mathieu said in a post on Instagram. A three-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler, Mathieu put together a standout NFL career following a rocky end to his time at LSU. The program dismissed him after repeated violations of its substance abuse policy in 2012, and he spent a year out of football before entering the draft. In the NFL, the Louisiana native immediately made an impact on the field. Mathieu finished fourth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2013 and helped the Cardinals reach the playoffs in two of his first three seasons. While at LSU, Mathieu garnered a reputation for his ability to force turnovers, setting an SEC record with 11 career forced fumbles. His knack for causing turnovers earned him the nickname 'the Honey Badger.' In his NFL career, he intercepted 36 passes and forced seven fumbles to go along with 838 tackles. His next All-Pro season came in 2019 with the Chiefs when the team won a Super Bowl. In his three seasons with the Chiefs, Mathieu was either named an All-Pro or a Pro Bowler. '(We) just have so much respect for Tyrann,' Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said. 'He's a legendary Louisiana player. A legendary NFL player. Really appreciate his time with us, and he was fantastic with us.'
