Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel Have No Talent: Trump As 'The Late Show' Is Cancelled
US President Donald Trump called popular late-night host Stephen Colbert 'talentless' after CBS announced it would cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert following a 10-year run.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House, President Trump criticised Colbert and predicted that other late-night hosts such as Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel would also lose their shows soon.
"Colbert has no talent. I mean, I could take anybody here. I could go outside in the beautiful streets and pick a couple of people that do just as well or better. They get higher ratings than he did. He's got no talent. Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They're next. They're going to be going. I hear they're going. Colbert has better ratings than Kimmel or Fallon," Trump said while addressing the media on Wednesday (Local Time).
This is not the first time Trump has attacked Colbert's abilities. Following the cancellation announcement, Trump expressed his happiness in a post on his Truth Social platform and also took aim at Jimmy Kimmel.
"I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show," Trump posted on July 18.
CBS, however, said the cancellation was not related to the show's performance. In a statement, the network said, the cancellation of 'The Late Show' was purely a "financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night" and is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount, in reference to the possible acquisition of its parent company, Paramount Global, by Skydance.
The decision has surprised many, including fellow late-night host Andy Cohen. Speaking to Deadline at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Cohen called the cancellation "a sad day for late-night television".
"I think it's a sad day for late-night television. I think it's a sad day for CBS. I think Stephen Colbert is a singular talent. He's going to have an incredible next chapter," Cohen said.
"I can't believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I'm stunned. He's one of three late-night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show," he added.
According to PEOPLE, Colbert made the announcement during the show's taping on July 17 at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York.
He took over the programme in September 2015, following the retirement of David Letterman. The show is expected to end in May next year.

Republicans revive ‘they/them' attack ads on Kamala Harris for 2026 midterm elections
US Republicans are reusing a slogan from the 2024 presidential race — 'Kamala is for they/them' — in their new ads for next year's congressional and governor's races, CNN reported. In 2024, Donald Trump's campaign used this slogan to mock then Vice President Kamala Harris' past support for policies that gave detained immigrants access to gender-transition-related healthcare. The campaign contrasted that with 'President Trump is for you.' The phrase 'they/them' refers to pronouns often used by non-binary people, meaning individuals who do not identify strictly as male or female. Now, the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a major Republican group, is running similar ads in states like North Carolina and Georgia. These ads attack Democrats for supporting transgender rights, especially in sports and healthcare. Chris LaCivita, Trump's co-campaign manager in 2024 and the creator of the original ads, told CNN the message worked well. US licenses Nvidia to export chips to China, official says
The commerce department has started issuing licenses to Nvidia to export its H20 chips to China, a U.S. official told Reuters on Friday, removing a significant hurdle to the AI bellwether's access to a key market. The U.S. last month reversed an April ban on the sale of the H20 chip to China. The company had tailored the microprocessor specially to the Chinese market to comply with the Biden-era AI chip export controls. The curbs will slice $8 billion off sales from its July quarter, the chipmaker has warned. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with Trump on Wednesday, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. A spokesperson for Nvidia declined comment. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company said in July it was filing applications with the U.S. government to resume sales to China of the H20 graphics processing unit, and had been assured it would get the licenses soon. It is unclear how many licenses may have been issued, which companies Nvidia is allowed to ship the H20s to, and the value of the shipments allowed. Nvidia disclosed in April that it expected a $5.5 billion charge related to the restrictions. In May, Nvidia said the actual first-quarter charge due to the H20 restrictions was $1 billion less than expected because it was able to reuse some materials. The Financial Times first reported Friday's developments. Nvidia said last month that its products have no 'backdoors' that would allow remote access or control after China raised concerns over potential security risks in the H20 chip. Exports of Nvidia's other advanced AI chips, barring the H20, to China are still restricted. Successive U.S. administrations have curbed exports of advanced chips to China, looking to stymie Beijing's AI and defense development. While this has impacted U.S. firms' ability to fully address booming demand from China, one of the world's largest semiconductor markets, it still remains an important revenue driver for American chipmakers. Huang has said the company's leadership position could slip without sales to China, where developers were being courted by Huawei Technologies with chips produced in China. In May, Nvidia said the H20 had brought in $4.6 billion in sales in the first quarter and that China accounted for 12.5% of overall revenue during the period.
