2 Sanatani Ekta Manch activists arrested for ‘pasting' Pakistan flag in Bengal; police claim accused had plans to instigate communal violence
The West Bengal police arrested two members of the Sanatani Ekta Manch on charges of trying to instigate communal violence in the Gopalnagar area of Bangaon police district on Friday.
The police claimed the two had pasted a Pakistan flag on the wall of a washroom beside Akaipur railway station under the Gopalnagar police station.
Speaking about the arrest, the police wrote on Facebook, 'Investigation revealed that this was wilfully done by 1. Chandan Malakar (30) and 2. Progyajit Mondal (45), both local residents and active members of a political party as also of Sanatani Ekta Manch. They have confessed to the act…'
They added that the accused also had plans of writing objectionable graffiti near the flag.
The police further said, 'We shall spare no efforts to bring to book those who are hatching such conspiracies to trigger communal unrest.'
Dinesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, said, 'We are investigating where these guys got Pakistani flags. We are also investigating whether any other persons were behind them or not.'
After this matter came to light, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh blamed the BJP for trying to create tension between groups.
However, local Bangaon-Uttar BJP MLA Ashok Kirtania said, 'When Sanatani Hindus are realising that they should be united, then Mamata Banerjee 's police are doing such conspiracies.'

The Pakistani government significantly increased the monthly salaries of the National Assembly Speaker and Senate Chairman to ₹1.3 million, a sharp rise from the previous figure of ₹205,000, as per a report by Samaa TV. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued the notification on May 29, but details of the raise surfaced publicly only on Friday, as per the report. In addition to the revised salary, both top parliamentary officials will receive a 50% temporary allowance, pushing their monthly compensation even higher. The new salary structure will be applied retrospectively from January 1, 2025, the report added. Salaries Of Pakistan's Government Officials Raised This pay hike comes amid a broader trend of increased remuneration for government officials. In March, salaries and allowances for federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers were also raised- by as much as 188%- following an amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975. After the revision, federal ministers now earn ₹519,000 per month, up from ₹200,000. Earlier this year, Pakistan's Finance Committee approved salary increases for National Assembly members and senators as well, raising their monthly salaries to ₹519,000. The salary hikes come at a time when Pakistan continues to grapple with economic challenges, including inflation and pressure from international lenders for fiscal restraint. Ludhiana: Senior BJP leaders are busy holding indoor meetings with the business fraternity to solicit votes for party candidate Jiwan Gupta. Late Friday, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, along with several other leaders, met industrialists. Most of the industrialists reside in the West constituency, and almost all the parties are reaching out to them. The BJP delegation led by the party's district chief, Rajnesh Dhiman, called on Omkar Singh Pahwa and sought his support for Gupta. Tarun Chugh and Vijay Rupani were also part of the delegation. Addressing the industrialists, Rupani informed them about PM Narendra Modi's policies for the industry. He said India had become the fourth largest economy in the world, surpassing Japan. He added that the Indian Rupee was doing well in the global market, showing strength against the US dollar. Rupani said in the next few years, the Indian economy could become the third largest in the world, surpassing Germany. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said BJP could save Punjab's industry, which was forced to shift to other states due to lack of security and anti-industry policies. He urged the industrialists to vote for the BJP if they wanted to save the industry of Punjab. Onkar Singh Pahwa promised support for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta on behalf of the cycle industry. Tummala terms Eatala Rajender's remarks on Kaleshwaram as ‘motivated and misleading'
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao strongly refuted the comments of BJP MP and his former colleague in the BRS government, Eatala Rajender, before the PC Ghose Commission on the Kaleshwaram project that alleged his role in the clearance of the project. 'Eatala's comments on me are completely false, and one wonders whether they were made under external pressure,' the Minister remarked at a press conference here on Saturday while questioning the motives behind them. Mr. Tummala clarified that the sub-committee he had referenced was not related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project but to look into other pending projects under the broader umbrella of irrigation, such as Devadula, Kantanapalli, and Dummugudem. 'It was never constituted specifically for Kaleshwaram project,' he explained. The Minister also revealed that the Kaleshwaram project never received formal Cabinet approval. The KCR Cabinet did not deliberate or come forward with a decision on the project. The works were executed merely based on an executive order, he argued. The Minister announced that he would submit the sub-committee report related to irrigation projects to the Kaleshwaram Commission suo motu, and would fully cooperate with the panel. 'At the appropriate time, I will tell the Commission what really happened with the Kaleshwaram project,' he said. He further said, 'My suggestions at that time were always in the interest of the people and farmers.' He said he is ready for a transparent discussion with anyone, but misleading the people with false statements is not acceptable.
