Dreamville Fest 2025: AKIA Sets the Tone With Raw R&B on its Last Day Ever
Rising R&B star AKIA ain't one to sleep on. Signed to SinceThe80s and proudly repping Arkansas, the singer-songwriter opened Day 2 of Dreamville Fest 2025, marking a historic moment as the final edition of the beloved hip-hop festival wrapped. With her fiery energy, sharp vocals, and her sultry single, 'DND,' AKIA made quite the statement as a newcomer.
'Just being from where I'm from, it's not much opportunity,' she shared backstage after her set, also mentioning how much she misses her family. 'So just being able to walk through these doors—I'm glad to be here.'
If you've heard 'DND,' you already know AKIA doesn't hold back. She kicks off the guitar-laden track with an angry voicemail message ('Hold on, if I call this n**** one more time…') before her sweet vocals contrast the preceding tension ('You gon' say I'm trippin' askin' where you have been when your business is my business.'). The way she paints the picture when she coos, 'I done left out my house in a bonnet,' translated literally into her 'From The Block' performance around mid March 2025.
It's a smooth, emotionally charged record born out of real-life drama—namely, her current relationship. 'My man,' she said with a laugh, when I asked who had her in her feelings. 'And he be singing them songs! I be like, yeah, you singing them sh*ts about you.'
Delivered with the kind of honesty only a (fellow) Virgo could truly embody, 'DND' is the lead single off her new project, a three-part EP series called DUMB, CRAZY, STUPID. The first installment, DUMB, was released on Friday, March 28, 2025.
'Everybody's been like, 'When are you gonna drop music? You're never gonna drop.' Now I've dropped,' she said proudly. AKIA confirms what the titles suggest: 'So, like I said on stage, I'm a little crazy. Y'all, like, I'm missing a few screws.' Don't say she didn't warn you.
Now based in Atlanta, AKIA credits the executives at SinceThe80s for believing in her vision and helping shape her sound. 'I couldn't ask for a better team,' she said. 'I really think I got the best team, honestly. Period.' AKIA is managed by Tez McClain, and has the likes of SinceThe80s founders Barry Hefner and Zeke Nicholson, in her corner. The label, management company, and publisher is also the home of fellow Dreamville Fest performers J.I.D. and EARTHGANG.
That team effort was on full display at her recent EP release party, which featured music icons like Bryan-Michael Cox and Keith Thomas. If you know anything about the music industry, especially the world of R&B, then you know these are co-signs that mean something. This has only further emboldened AKIA.
'I'm bad. Like, I'm here to stay,' she declared. 'They done let me through the door, and they done f*cked up.' Backed by industry titans and fueled by her own self-assurance, AKIA's arrival on the R&B scene promises to be nothing short of impactful.
Music might be her first love and current focus, but AKIA plans to pursue her other passions down the road. 'I would love to get some little acting roles,' she shared. 'People call me funny from time to time.' Somebody tell Tyler Perry and Kevin Hart to have their people call her people. I could tell from our brief conversation that she has the potential to light up the silver screen.
Oh, and she cooks, too. 'My favorite dish to make is pot roast. I'm a beast with the pot roast,' she said, giving flowers to her grandma for the recipe. She foresees herself having a culinary show akin to what you'd find on Food Network. Cooking With AKIA has quite the ring to it, don't you think?
If there's one thing AKIA wants the world to take away from her music, it's this: 'I'm real and raw.' Her voice, her lyrics, and her spirit carry that same unfiltered truth. This is a necessary quality in any genre but especially powerful in R&B, which is deeply rooted in storytelling and emotional resonance.
With a standout Dreamville Fest debut, a bold new single, and a fresh EP series underway, AKIA is making sure the world knows she's not just here—she's here to stay.

The album is available for pre-order on Clipse's website while its first single, 'Ace Trumpets,' is already out. Formed by brothers Gene 'Malice' and Terrence 'Pusha T' Thornton, Clipse is credited with establishing Virginia as one of the East Coast's strongholds in hip-hop. The brothers were discovered by Pharrell Williams, a fellow Virginia Beach native, in the 1990s. Williams helped the duo get signed to Elektra Records, where Clipse recorded their 1999 album 'Exclusive Audio Footage.' However, the album was shelved and the duo was dropped. Williams then helped Clipse get signed to Arista Records, where they released their 2002 full-length project, 'Lord Willin'.' The album produced the hit singles 'Grindin',' 'When the Last Time' and 'Ma, I Don't Love Her.' It also reached the top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop and Billboard 200 charts and was later certified gold by the RIAA. Clipse released two more successful albums – 2006's 'Hell Hath No Fury' and 2009's 'Til the Casket Drops' — before going on hiatus in 2010. Both Pusha T and No Malice pursued solo careers and put out several projects in the interim. The brothers reunited as Clipse when they appeared on Kanye West's song 'Use This Gospel,' featured on his 2019 album, 'Jesus Is King.' Since then, Clipse has performed regularly at Primavera Sound Barcelona, Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and elsewhere. Clipse's last U.S. tour before their was in 2010 when the duo completed the 'Away From Home Tour,' according to Billboard. What Preschooler Says During Acting Audition Leaves Mom Speechless
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Let's be honest—most adults have stretched the truth at least once to land a job. But one preschooler may have taken it to the next level. A recent survey by StandOut-CV of 2,012 U.S. adults revealed that more than three in five respondents (64.2%) admitted to lying on their resume at least once. But resume embellishments aren't just for grown-ups. When Harlyn Brielle was just four years old when she improvised during an acting audition - in a desperate bid to get the role. Her mom, Bree, 33, recently shared the clip on Instagram (@breenotacomedian), where it quickly went viral, amassing over 1.9 million views. "We rehearsed the commercial every day for weeks and she did that part perfectly," she told Newsweek. "But when we got to the questions, she had her own agenda." Two screenshots from the viral video showing the young girl looking at her mom and then smiling. Two screenshots from the viral video showing the young girl looking at her mom and then smiling. Instagram/@breenotacomedian During the virtual interview, Harlyn was asked whether she could speak any other languages. Without missing a beat, she confidently replied, "Yes," then proceeded to invent her own language on the spot—before wrapping up the impromptu answer by repeatedly saying "gracias" in Spanish. Bree, who had spent weeks rehearsing the commercial script with Harlyn, was caught completely off guard. "We rehearsed the commercial every day for weeks and she did that part perfectly," she told Newsweek. "But when we got to the questions, she had her own agenda." Trying to keep things on track, Bree gently clarified to the interviewer that her daughter could do accents, not speak other languages. But Harlyn wasn't about to let go of her narrative, doubling down on her claim with even more Spanish flair. Unfortunately, the audition—allegedly for a cereal brand—turned out to be a scam. Bree discovered the red flag when the organizers asked for money. "When I told Harlyn, her response was, 'No way we're paying them. I'm the star—they should pay me!'" Bree recalled. Although that particular opportunity didn't pan out, Harlyn, now seven, has since landed a small role in the film Girl in the Closet. Determined to support her daughter's acting ambitions, Bree even created an Instagram page dedicated to her budding career: @harlynbrielle. "Harlyn is one of those kids where I never know what's going to come out of her mouth," Bree said. "As a Virgo, she's bold, confident, and—if you ask her— she's always right!" Online audiences seem to agree. The original video, posted on May 6, has garnered more than 165,000 likes and many users can relate to the text layered over the clip. It says: "When you lie on the job application [and] say you're bilingual to try [and] get the job." "I checked the bilingual box on an Indeed app and listed 'mildly conversant' on my resume. I got the job and ended up answering phones while googling responses!" resonated one user. "This is what real confidence looks like. I hope she keeps it forever," complimented another and a third pointed out: "Her mom was just as surprised as we all were."
