2008 Olympic champion Eric Lamaze banned from equestrian until 2031 for breaking doping rules
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Equestrian rider Eric Lamaze, an Olympic champion in 2008, has been banned from the sport until 2031 after a second four-year doping suspension was imposed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The court's judges ordered the Canadian star to serve the latest ban for evading a doping control in the Netherlands in 2021, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) said in a statement Monday.
That ban will not start until the expiry in September 2027 of a previous four-year ban ordered in the case by the FEI.
'While CAS proceedings were ongoing, Mr. Lamaze submitted forged medical documents, which led to a four-year ineligibility period,' the equestrian governing body said.
Lamaze won individual gold and team silver in jumping at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and individual bronze at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. He is a three-time Olympian who missed competing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and 2000 Sydney Olympics in fallout from positive tests for cocaine.
In 2022, Equestrian Canada named him technical adviser and head of national jumping teams.
Now aged 56, Lamaze will be 63 when his current bans expire.
The FEI said Lamaze also was fined 15,000 Swiss francs ($16,500) and ordered to pay 12,000 Swiss francs ($13,000) toward the governing body's legal costs plus the costs of the arbitration case.

BOSTON (AP) — A Russian-born scientist and Harvard University researcher charged with smuggling frog embryos into the United States faces a detention hearing in Massachusetts on Thursday. Kseniia Petrova, 30, has been in federal custody since February and is seeking to be released. Petrova was returning from a vacation in France, where she had stopped at a lab specializing in splicing superfine sections of frog embryos and obtained a package of samples for research. She was later questioned about the samples while passing through a U.S. Customs and Border Protection checkpoint at Boston Logan International Airport. She told The Associated Press in an interview in April that she did not realize the items needed to be declared and was not trying to sneak anything into the country. After an interrogation, Petrova was told her visa was being canceled. Petrova was briefly detained by immigration officials in Vermont, where she filed a petition seeking her release. She was later sent to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility facility in Louisiana. The Department of Homeland Security had said in a statement on the social media platform X that Petrova was detained after 'lying to federal officers about carrying substances into the country.' They allege that messages on her phone 'revealed she planned to smuggle the materials through customs without declaring them.' In May, Petrova was charged with smuggling in Massachusetts as a federal judge in Vermont set the hearing date on her petition. That judge later ruled that the immigration officers' actions were unlawful, that Petrova didn't present a danger, and that the embryos were nonliving, nonhazardous and 'posed a threat to no one.' The judge released Petrova from ICE custody, but she remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service on the smuggling charge. Colleagues and academics have testified on Petrova's behalf, saying she is doing valuable research to advance cures for cancer.

Biles Issues Public Apology
Olympian Simone Biles apologized to Riley Gaines. I'm Tomi Lahren, more next. Well this feud could possibly end on a high note, after all. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles did the right thing and publicly apologized to Riley Gaines for body shaming her AND even somewhat acknowledged that the current system of biological men competing in women's sports doesn't adequately balance competitive equity. Biles did stop short of defending the integrity of women's sports and spaces, which is regrettable. However, the public apology and accountability was a refreshing change of pace. For her part, Gaines accepted the apology and warmly invited Biles to join the fight to protect women's sports. Look, it would've been great to see Biles commit to the fight for fairness and use her incredible platform to advance it, but I am happy to see this feud end. Biles is no doubt a role model for girls and young women, I was taken aback at her initial behavior and especially her body shaming digs. It takes a lot of courage to publicly own that and say sorry. Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hildebrandt leads new Real American Freestyle wrestling signees
Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hildebrandt headlines a group of four women who have signed with Real American Freestyle wrestling. Hildebrandt became the fourth American woman to win a gold medal in Olympic wrestling when she defeated Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba in the 50-kilogram final last year in Paris. Other signees the new company announced Thursday are Olympic silver medalist Lucía 'Jami' Yepez Guzman, Audrey Jimenez and Zeltin Hernandez Guerra. They join Kennedy Blades, a silver medalist for the United States at the Paris Olympics, as the anchors of the women's division. 'Real American Freestyle was created to trailblaze, and these incredible women joining our roster are a critical part of that,' RAF commissioner Hulk Hogan said in a statement. Yepez Guzman, who is from Ecuador, was a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics. She also won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games, the 2021 Junior Pan American Games and the 2021 U23 World Wrestling Championships. Jimenez, 19, was a U.S. Olympic Trials runner-up. She was the first female to win an Arizona state championship in the boys division. She won the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships at 50 kilograms last month, with a win over Guzman Lopez in the semifinals. Hernandez Guerra is a Mexican who won gold at the U23 Pan American Championships last year. Real American Freestyle events will feature matches at eight men's and four women's weight classes.
