IDF exploded 50 bombs in 30 seconds in precision strike that killed Hamas commander Sinwar
The swift operation allegedly targeted a Hamas command-and-control centre situated beneath a hospital in Gaza's Khan Yunis on May 13 read more A Palestinian youth inspects the destruction inside Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. (Source: AFP) The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on May 13 carried out a precision surgical airstrike, dropping over 50 bombs within 30 seconds. The swift operation allegedly targeted a Hamas command-and-control centre situated beneath a hospital in Gaza's Khan Yunis. The IDF has now released a 3D illustration, projecting how the strikes were launched to target the command centre without damaging the civilian infrastructure above. The IDF said senior Hamas commander Muhammad Sinwar and operative Muhammad Shabana were also killed in the precision strikes. Israeli forces say the centre was used by Hamas to direct terrorist operations. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The terrorists were eliminated while operating in an underground command and control centre under the European Hospital in Khan Younis, deliberately endangering the civilian population in and around the hospital,' a joint statement by the IDF and Shin Bet security agency read, according to The Times of Israel. 'Prior to and during the strike, measures were taken to minimise the risk of civilian harm,' the IDF added. The Health Ministry, operated by Hamas, reported 16 fatalities and over 70 injuries resulting from the Israeli strike. Major blow to Hamas leadership The attack was among the most significant assassinations of Hamas leadership since the war started on October 7, 2023. Muhammad Sinwar, the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, now slain top leader of Hamas in Gaza, was a crucial figure in the group's military planning. The IDF stated that the precision strike disrupted Hamas's command structure and demonstrated the effectiveness of Israeli intelligence and air capabilities. The IDF released a video illustrating the strike days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Israeli parliament, announcing Sinwar's 'elimination' and naming other Hamas officials killed over the past 20 months, including Yahya Sinwar. Following the IDF's announcement, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a warning to remaining Hamas leaders. 'Now it is official: The murderer Muhammad Sinwar has been eliminated… and he was sent to meet his brother at the gates of hell,' Katz said. 'Izz al-Din Haddad in Gaza and Khalil al-Hayya abroad, and all their partners in crime, you are next in line.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

'Make it a one-way trip': Greta Thunberg faces heat as she leaves for Gaza
Environmental activist Greta Thunberg (Pic credit: Getty Images) Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is preparing to sail to Gaza this weekend aboard a humanitarian aid vessel, a bold and controversial voyage aimed at challenging Israel's ongoing blockade, which critics warn is starving civilians and plunging Gaza into famine. The 22-year-old will depart Sunday from Catania, Sicily, alongside other international activists aboard the ship Madleen, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC). Their mission is to deliver vital aid and draw global attention to the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "The world cannot be silent bystanders," Thunberg said in a statement about the mission. "This silence and passivity that we are seeing from most of the world is deadly. We are seeing a systematic starvation of 2 million people. Every single one of us has a moral obligation to do everything we can to fight for a free Palestine." The World Health Organisation recently warned that Gaza is on the brink of famine, with 75% of its population facing "emergency" or "catastrophic" food insecurity. The FFC aims to bring relief and challenge the months-long blockade enforced by Israel, which has faced mounting international criticism. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! Удивительные Новости Undo Backlash and calls for a 'one-way ticket' Despite the humanitarian nature of the voyage, Thunberg has been met with a torrent of criticism online and in international media. "She's sailing to Gaza like it's some sort of idyllic holiday destination," said Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio, naming Thunberg her "big loser of the week." "She really is annoying at all times," De Giorgio added. Another commentator, Prue MacSween, said, "She's such an urban terrorist herself, she'll fit right in. Let's just hope she stays over there." On social media, many users echoed similar sentiments, with comments like "Let's hope it's a one-way voyage" and "I hope she stays in Gaza." High-profile passengers and past attacks Also joining Thunberg on the Madleen are "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham and European Parliament member Rima Hassan. The voyage follows a failed attempt last month by another FFC vessel, Conscience, which was allegedly struck by drones in international waters near Malta. The group blamed Israel for the attack, though the Israeli government has not confirmed responsibility. FFC's efforts have drawn both praise and scrutiny over the years, often seen as a form of civil disobedience challenging the legality and morality of the Gaza blockade.
