IEPFA and SEBI launch first Niveshak Shivir in Pune to empower investors and resolve unclaimed dividends
New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), successfully launched the pilot chapter of Niveshak Shivir in Pune on Sunday.
The initiative is a part of IEPFA's continued mission to empower investors and strengthen financial literacy. The event marked a significant step in facilitating direct engagement with investors and addressing unresolved financial claims, according to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
In line with IEPFA's broader investor outreach initiatives, Niveshak Shivir was conceptualised to assist investors in resolving pending issues related to unclaimed dividends and shares, updating KYC and nomination details, and facilitating faster settlements of claims - all under one roof.
Over 450 claimants participated enthusiastically in the event, which attracted investors and stakeholders from Pune and nearby regions.
By bringing together representatives from MIIs (Market Infrastructure Institutions), Registrars and Transfer Agents (RTAs), Depositories and Depository participants, the event successfully created awareness of the processes, thereby ensuring a transparent and seamless awareness towards demat of physical shares, updating KYC and nomination and the processes of IEPF claim were demystified.
Investors were guided through every step of the process by trained officials at nineteen dedicated kiosks.
To further streamline the process, search facility was made available at the venue, enabling participants to quickly check whether they or their family members had held any unclaimed shares or dividends. Once verified, trained officials assisted claimants in accurately filling out the IEPF-5 form, ensuring a smooth and guided claim submission process.
Anita Shah Akella, CEO of IEPFA and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, along with Ananth Narayan, whole time Member, SEBI, and other officials inaugurated a special investor guide brochure developed by NSDL titled 'Investor Guide to Claiming Unclaimed Shares and Dividends.'
The brochure outlines, in simple language, the step-by-step process for reclaiming unclaimed dividends and shares through the IEPF portal, key documents required (such as PAN, Aadhaar, and Entitlement Letter), and tips for avoiding common reasons for claim rejections. This initiative is expected to further empower investors with the knowledge needed to effectively navigate the claim process.
The Shivir is the first in a planned series of Niveshak Shivir events to be held in major cities with significant volumes of unclaimed investor funds. This reflects IEPFA's deep commitment to investor-centric governance and transparency. Citywise calendar of events of Niveshak Shivir would be rolled out based on the learnings of this pilot.
The Government of India established the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Its mandate is to promote investor awareness, ensure effective grievance redressal, and facilitate the recovery of unclaimed investments through accessible and user-friendly platforms. (ANI)

HC upholds TN law regulating online real-money games
Chennai: A Tamil Nadu law regulating online real-money games like rummy and poker by introducing age, money, time and ad restrictions, besides two-stage Aadhaar-based verification, has been upheld by Madras high court . "In true essence, the online real money games is a trade activity, which, if left unregulated, has immediate implications on health of the public," a division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice K Rajasekar said on Tuesday. Bench made the observation while dismissing a batch of petitions moved by online gaming platforms challenging validity of restrictions. Refusing to concur with the platforms which contended that a state govt lacks power to bring in such restrictions, the court said, "Both the Union and state govts have power to enact laws in their own respective subject matter apart from the common pool as enabled in List III (concurrent list). This court cannot hold that state is barred from enacting laws regulating online real money games. It is covered under the subject matter of public health and sanitation which comes under List II (state list)," judges said. The argument that Information Technology Rules, 2021 already prescribe a regulatory framework for intermediaries, including online gaming platforms, and hence the state cannot frame a subordinate legislation is unacceptable, the court said. "This court views that the state is fully within its competence to enact laws pertaining to online real money games. This court on perusal of the provisions of the Act (state legislation) finds no contradictions or provisions that run contrary to the central rules in force," the bench said. Moreover, the provisions related to online gaming under IT Rules, 2021 is yet to take effect and remains unenforceable as of today. So there exists a vacuum in regulating online games, the court pointed out. The judges added that they are of the view that the state govt has rightfully taken adequate steps to fill in the vacuum by framing the legislation. Rejecting argument that mandatory Aadhaar verification violates privacy of a player, bench said, "Right to privacy carries with it its own limitations and cannot be claimed in absolute. When put on a scale, a compelling public interest outweighs right to privacy."

Trump Gold Card will be highly successful in India: US Commerce Secretary
United States (US) Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Monday said that the Trump Gold Card—a new $5 million pathway to US permanent residency—will be particularly popular among wealthy Indian nationals seeking to contribute to the American economy. Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit 2025, Lutnick called the programme 'an enormous opportunity' and a transformation in US immigration policy. 'I think the ordinary path of immigration for America is changing. The Trump Card is coming out. I expect it will create an enormous opportunity for people to come to America,' Lutnick said in his keynote address. New immigration scheme to replace EB-5 The Trump Gold Card was announced by US President Donald Trump in February 2025. It is designed as a replacement for the existing EB-5 programme and allows wealthy foreign nationals to gain a route to US citizenship by investing $5 million. 'India a key target for launch' Lutnick signalled that India would be a key launch market for the programme. 'When people ask me, 'When are you coming to India?' I say, 'When I launch the Trump Card, I promise you I'm coming to India,'' he said. Describing the initiative as a gateway for international entrepreneurs, he added, 'You can become like a green card holder—it's the Trump Gold Card. You can choose to pay global tax or remain taxed only on your US assets, with no inheritance tax or global tax obligations.' Tailored to global entrepreneurs 'This is what we're calling an international entrepreneur,' Lutnick continued. 'That's a special category, and I think it will be very, very well received amongst the great people of India who want to participate and have the means to participate in America.' The Trump administration has framed the programme as a strategic move to attract global capital and business talent, particularly from countries like India with large numbers of high-net-worth individuals and growing interest in global mobility.

Man loses Rs 21 lakh in investment fraud
Mangaluru: A man allegedly lost Rs 21.7 lakh in an online investment scam. In a complaint, he said that he came across a Facebook profile in Sept 2024 under the name Raveena Roy, who claimed to be an MBA graduate and an investment consultant. She allegedly promoted lucrative schemes in gold trading and deposit plans, convincing the complainant to invest. The accused later shared two WhatsApp numbers and directed the complainant to a link for an app. Trusting the app to be genuine, he shared personal details, including his mail ID, mobile number, and Aadhaar card details, and registered on the platform. Through the app's customer support, the complainant was given multiple bank account numbers and IFSC codes for depositing money. Between Oct 3, 2024, and April 25, this year, he allegedly transferred a total of Rs 21.7 lakh via NEFT and IMPS to different accounts linked to the accused. The complainant was initially able to withdraw a small amount. However, when he requested to withdraw the remaining funds, he was asked to pay additional tax. This raised doubts, and upon closer scrutiny, he realised he had been defrauded. CEN Crime police registered a case and are investigating.
