2031 Ryder Cup to be hosted in Girona, Spain, says Catalan golf federation
Barcelona, Spain (AP) — The 2031 Ryder Cup will be held in northeastern Spain, the president of the Catalan golf federation has told The Associated Press.
Ramon Nogué, president of the Catalan golf federation, told the AP by phone Friday that 'next week it will be official' that Girona will be announced as the host of the golfing event between the best male players of Europe and the United States.
The choice of Girona was first reported by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
'Any announcement in relation to future editions of the Ryder Cup will be made in due course,' Ryder Cup Europe said.
This will be the second time for Spain to host the Cup after Valderrama in 1997, and just the fourth time it will be played in continental Europe after Le Golf National outside Paris in 2018 and Marco Simone outside Rome in 2023.
The Ryder Cup is closely tied to Spain because of European team stalwarts Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal and Sergio García.
This year's Ryder Cup will be held at Bethpage Black in New York in September. The next one staged in Europe is in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Duran's role is settled. He's the closer — the Phillies tested out his fire entrance on the big screen ahead of his debut. The 27-year-old Duran — nicknamed Durantulla and he wore spider cleats on Friday — had 16 saves and a 2.01 ERA in 49 appearances this season, striking out 53 in 49 1/3 innings. 'It's an honor to be part of this team,' Duran said. 'I know here I've got a chance to win the World Series.' The 31-year-old Bader, a 2021 Gold Glove winner, remains a strong defender at all three outfield spots and has 12 home runs, 38 RBIs and a .778 OPS in 96 games. The right-handed hitting Bader will start his Phillies career in a center field platoon with Brandon Marsh. The left-handed hitting Marsh got the start Friday against Tigers righty Jack Flaherty. Maddy Siegrist's return to Wings from knee injury delayed at least 1 more game
DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist's return from a knee injury will have to wait at least one more game. The Wings ruled Siegrist out of a game Friday night against the Indiana Fever a day after saying her 17-game absence because of a right knee fracture was set to end. The Wings are playing the Fever at the home of the Dallas Mavericks. It's the second time the Wings will play at American Airlines Center. Dallas faced the Fever at the AAC in late June, losing 94-86 when Caitlin Clark was sidelined by a groin injury. Clark returned after that, but this meeting with the Wings will be Clark's sixth consecutive game missed after the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year aggravated a groin injury. Siegrist, the NCAA Division I scoring leader ahead of Clark when she played for Villanova in 2022-23, was limited to 11 games in an injury-plagued rookie season two years ago. Siegrist has averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 11 games and had her only double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards the game before she was injured, an 81-65 loss to Minnesota on June 8.
