How many UK driving theory test questions can YOU answer?
Self-proclaimed 'TikTok quizmaster' Mahan Lankarani often creates brainteasers and quiz videos and recently challenged people to see if they could pass a UK citizenship test.
He tested his 1.6 million followers on their driving knowledge in another video inspired by real questions asked on a UK theory exam.
According to government guidance, people taking the test must get 43 out of 50 multiple choice questions right and at least 44 out of 75 in the hazard perception section to pass the test.
Some of the mock questions in Lankarani's video included 'What is the maximum speed limit for a car on a UK motorway' and 'What shape are most warning signs on UK roads?'
However, several TikTok viewers confessed they struggled to answer the questions despite holding a full driving licence - with some of them getting zero correct.
One wrote: 'Been driving 21 years and passed first time. If I took the test today, I'd fail miserably, facts.'
Another said: 'I've been driving 13 years, passed first time and I still failed them all.'
A third wrote: 'I just did it last week first try, failed this one.'
A fourth commented 'I got all of the wrong, I need to take my test again,' while another chimed in and admitted: 'Embarrassed to admit how many I got wrong.'
One comment read 'That's it, I've failed,' while another person said: 'I thought you could do 77 if overtaking on the motorway.'
It comes after research conducted by motoring research charity RAC Foundation found that more than 50,000 driving tests a year are taken by learners who have already failed at least five times.
A theory test costs £23 for cars, whereas, a practical driving tests cost between £62 and £75, depending on when they are taken.
If taken in the evenings, weekends and bank holidays, a car driving test will set you back £75, but if taken on weekdays, it will cost £62 per exam.
The first step for anyone is to apply for a provisional UK driving licence - which will set you back £34.
The test is below and answers will be at the end of the article
THE QUESTIONS
1. What is the maximum legal speed limit for a car on a UK motorway?
2. What does this road sign mean?
3. What is usually the maximum speed limit for a car on a road with street lights?
4. What colour are the reflective studs along the left-hand edge of a UK motorway?
5. What shape are most warning signs on UK roads?
6. What does this road sign mean?
7. How many mm is the minimum legal tyre tread depth for a car in the UK?
8. What is the maximum speed limit for a car on this road?
The total bill for repeated failures could see you cash out thousands of pounds when you also take into account the rocketing cost of the lessons.
In April, learners trying to book their driving test faced online queues of more than 15,000 people this morning - joking it was 'easier getting Oasis tickets'.
Those with a provisional licence are facing six-month waiting lists in order to secure one driving test - if they are successful in bagging a slot at all.
Beginner motorists woke up at the crack of dawn this morning to sit in an online queue on the official government website at 6am - only to discover that within less than a minute they were nearly 16,000th in the queue.
One furious parent on X, formerly Twitter, joked that it was easier bagging Oasis tickets than a driving test.
'Trying to book a driving test for my son, 6am in the queue, 12,500 ahead of me, wait 40 mins to book, re-directed and then told there's a system error,' they said.
'Was easier getting @oasis tickets!'
Another fumed: 'On the driving test site at dead on 6am and there are 14k people in front of me. Happy friggin Monday.'
Many of the commenters of the clip holding a full driving licence, many of them struggled to answer the nine questions on the clip, with some of them getting zero correct
A third added: 'Managed to book my driving test - can't believe I have to wait until mid September though, ridiculous.'
A fourth said: '15,685 people online at 6am trying to get a driving test booked. Something has got to be done about this surely!'
The official government website states it is faster to book tests online than booking by phone due to the lines being very busy at the moment.
It adds that the booking service is open from 6am until 11.40pm. But many claimed today that at 6am on the dot they were hit with impossibly long queues of many thousands.

'Pretty surreal, not sure how it all happened, a survival fight. Incredible. I was in denial until the last pit stop. No mistakes, really happy.' 5.48pm CEST 17:48 Piastri shakes hands sportingly with Norris. The gap between them is eight points and the championhip is between them, it seems. Verstappen had another bad day. Hulkenberg is mobbed. 'Nico, Nico.' Mrs Norris is in tears. 'I love you so much, enjoy, enjoy,' she tells young Lando. 5.44pm CEST 17:44 'It's beautiful,' says a tearful Lando. 'Oh my god,' whimpers a sobbing Nico Hulkenberg He started 19th on the grid. It's a 25th home win. And Hulkenberg lands his first podium. Huge celebrations at Sauber! Updated at 5.51pm CEST 5.40pm CEST 17:40 51/52 In his green Sauber, Hulkenberg is enjoying the race of his F1 life. He's won Le Mans before. 5.38pm CEST 17:38 50/52 Bright sun at Silverstone now. The rain a painful memory for some. Hulkenberg has 5.4 seconds on Hamilton. 5.36pm CEST 17:36 49/52 Norris has the fastest lap and seems set fair for a big win. He's steered clear of the drama of a highly dramatic race. 5.35pm CEST 17:35 48/52 Hulkenberg has been in 259 GPs. Hamilton had a wobble like Piastri and is struggling to close on his fellow veteran. 'No team orders, just race to the end,' McLaren tell Piastri. 5.34pm CEST 17:34 47/52 Leclerc is seen riding some gravel. He's had a shocker. Hamilton sets a fastest lap in search of his sixteenth podium at Silverstone. 5.32pm CEST 17:32 46/52 Piastri is asking for the McLaren drivers to be switched as he is innocent of the safety car accusation. Hulkenberg has the fastest lap…we're all on his side. He has seven seconds on Hamilton. 5.31pm CEST 17:31 45/52 Norris pits. And comes out. He has a lead of six seconds. The two McLarens can now race. Verstappen is swearing again, and isn't happy with his balance…Piastri almost loses it on his new tyres….. 5.29pm CEST 17:29 44/52 Norris in the lead, Piastri comes out in second. The two Haas car – Ocon and Bearman collide – but no safety car. Both Haas' slide in perfect symmetry. 5.27pm CEST 17:27 43/52 Hulkenberg holds third. Piastri is called in. 5.27pm CEST 17:27 42/52 Pitting time: Hamilton can't get past Hulkenberg and so comes in, the slicks it is. Verstappen comes in, too. Hamilton is struggling on these new tyres. Hulkenberg pits – and it's too slow – such a shame. 5.25pm CEST 17:25 41/52 Verstappen past Gasly and into sixth. Piastri is told not to be too silly if Norris comes close to him. 5.23pm CEST 17:23 40/52 George Russell spins and into the gravel – that's the slicks shown up to be not up to the job. Thankfully he's able to continue but a pit and a spin means he's in 14th. Alonso also struggling on slicks. 5.21pm CEST 17:21 39/52 Verstappen is in eighth, his lack of downforce – a 'tea tray', as Christian Horner called it – presents a problem. 5.20pm CEST 17:20 38/52 Quicker from Piastri, and he opens his lead on Norris. Alonso plays guinea pigs as he comes in to change to dry tyres. Russell and Mercedes will take that action – they go to the slicks. 5.18pm CEST 17:18 37/52 Norris has the fastest lap. The race is McLaren's but which of their cars? Piastri has the choice of going into the pits or having 10 seconds chalked off. 5.16pm CEST 17:16 36/52 Hamilton is enjoying the dry and Hulkenberg's quest for a podium place is to be denied by the Ferrari's straight-line speed. Updated at 5.23pm CEST 5.14pm CEST 17:14 35/52 Hulkenberg blazes past Stroll, who soon has Hamilton for company. The old master chases a podium place. Verstappen finally overtakes Sainz. 5.12pm CEST 17:12 34/52 Verstappen is stuck behind Sainz in 10th. This is desperate for him. 5.11pm CEST 17:11 33/52 Russell is chasing Gasly as he seeks to chase old teammate Hamilton. 5.10pm CEST 17:10 32/52 Piastri: 'It's drying but slowly, too soon for slicks.' 5.09pm CEST 17:09 31/52 Hulkenberg gives chase to Stroll, and third is in sight for the Sauber. Stroll says the track is starting to dry. Norris and Piastri look set for a battle at the front. It's Norris's to lose. 5.06pm CEST 17:06 30/52 Hamilton has finally overtaken Gasly for fifth. Hulkenberg, in fourth, has never been on the podium. We are willing him on. 5.04pm CEST 17:04 29/52 Piastri and Norris are 3.6 seconds apart. It's over 15 seconds to Stroll. 5.03pm CEST 17:03 28/52 Hamilton and Gasly really going at it. Great racing. 5.02pm CEST 17:02 27/52 Hamilton goes after Gasly – his old mate – and the Frenchman has more battery, and is using it to defend himself. 'So slow,' complains Verstappen of a car in deep traffic. 5.00pm CEST 17:00 26/52 Zak Brown of McLaren confirms that an appeal has gone in. Hamilton has overtaken Russell. These are his conditions. Discussions on the 10-second penalty within the McLaren pit. 4.57pm CEST 16:57 25/52 That's his punishment for his jiggery pokery behind the safety car. He's 10 seconds clear of Stroll, and 3.6 on Norris who is de facto leader. Verstappen is way back in 10th. Updated at 5.24pm CEST 4.56pm CEST 16:56 24/52 The McLarens are flying – three seconds per lap ahead of the rest. Could a penaly for Piastri hand it over to Norris? Russell and Hamilton do battle, the Ferrari comes wide, and Russell holds the line to go through. Antonelli has retired by the way. 4.54pm CEST 16:54 23/52 Piastri is under investigation for messing around by the safety car. Norris is second, Stroll is third, Hulkenberg fourth, Gasly fifth, Hamilton sixth. 4.52pm CEST 16:52 22/52 Just as the safety car departed, Verstappen spins off, Piastri and him were jousting. He's down in 10th. And then spins wide again, and is in 11th, before going past Ocon again. Did Piastri cause that? 'Whoa, mate! He just suddenly slows down.' Piastri in lumber? Verstappen was lucky not to get in a smash there. Updated at 5.00pm CEST 4.49pm CEST 16:49 21/52 'This puddle at turn two is a problem,' says Piastri. Does a red flag result? Antonelli comes in for a tyre change. His diffuser has gone after that Hadjar crash. Bits are coming off his car. Will he complete? No rear downforce. 4.47pm CEST 16:47 20/52 More safety car 'action', with plenty of spray. 4.44pm CEST 16:44 19/52 Hadjar smashes into the back of Antonelli. 'From out of nowhere, man,' says Hadjar. Hamilton is complaining he can't see anything. 4.43pm CEST 16:43 18/52 The spray is huge as they race. Russell overtakes Hamilton, and Ocon drops two places to ninth. Nobody can see much, surely. Piastri opens up a two-second lead on Verstappen as Norris closes – and Isack Hadjar crashes out. Oof, that was some prang, he's into the stands. Another safety car. 4.39pm CEST 16:39 17/52 Verstappen and Piastri jousting behind the safety car. George Russell asks why the race hasn't been stopped. The safety car is set to be removed, and we are going to race once more. 4.37pm CEST 16:37 16/52 Alonso, in 10th, is complaining about tyres and the pre-race change he made, as Lance Stroll is in fourth in the Aston Martin car.

'I went to the British GP at Silverstone and cost of car park left me floored'
A woman who attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday (July 6) has taken to social media to hit out at one costly aspect of the Formula 1 event A Formula 1 fan expressed her frustration at one aspect of Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone. British McLaren driver, Landon Norris emerged victorious on a rain-soaked afternoon in Northamptonshire, with teammate Oscar Pistori and Nico Hulkenberg also securing podium finishes. Amid the celebrations at the event - which cost between £70 and £329 for a single-day admission - TikTok user @f1girlGB was left having to fork out another small fortune, simply to park her own car. Sharing a video from the site's public car park, a sign stated that payments should be made prior to leaving, outlines costs for stays on each day from Thursday to Sunday. Despite the race taking place on Sunday, fans are invited to attend from Thursday to meet team members, visit the track's museum as well as take part in several more race-related events. Friday sees more action including drivers' practices, before Saturday's qualifying ahead of the main event on Sunday. To be there on all four days appears to cost an arm and a leg – as the TikTok user's video also laid out the costs detailed on the sign. These were: Thursday parking £80; Friday parking £80; Saturday parking £130; and Sunday parking £130. The video of the sign has been viewed a staggering 900,000 times, despite the fan's modest following of just 314. Thousands of those who viewed it vented their ill feelings too. "There's me thinking I couldn't afford the actual tickets when actually I couldn't even afford the parking!", one person quipped in response. A second fumed: "Exactly why I won't go to Silverstone F1, but will go abroad to watch F1." A third added: "Silverstone is now just a rip off. I don't know how people can afford it, when they have no money to pay bills etc." A fourth TikTok user slammed: "That's actually insane and totally unjustified. Things just die on the vine in this country because of price gouging and corporate greed. In a few years they'll be complaining that the crowds aren't as big any more and they'll wonder why." Whilst a fifth pondered: "Must put a lot of people off, but they still seem to have lots of cars there, so people must be willing to pay those extortionate prices, fair enough. Guess I'll never go to Silverstone." Detailing a slightly more cost-effective alternative, meanwhile, another individual pointed out: "If you book online in advance its £50 a day or £150 for the full weekend." Whilst someone else claimed: "Local schools charged £50 for the weekend, which was about a 30 minute walk and much quicker than queuing out of the car park."

ZF has a new EV powertrain that promises a 30 per cent winter range improvement
Electric The Select modular e-drive platform has a magnet-free motor and better heat-managing smarts Skip 2 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Vehicle tech supplier ZF has created a modular e-drive powertrain that it says gives electric cars up to 30 per cent more range in extreme cold conditions. How so? The Select modular system – to give the thing its official name – combines electric motors, converters, inverters, transmission and the software package needed to optimise electron-fuelled propulsion, though the company says all the components are interchangeable. Advertisement - Page continues below The not-so-secret sauce is a magnet-free motor (I2SM, for the nerds), which ditches the permanent magnets in favour of a slimmer, lighter setup that saves five kilos and fits into tighter spaces. According to ZF, it chucks out up to 300kW (402bhp in old money), and generates a silly 4,057lb ft of torque. And it's slicing energy losses by more than 25 per cent at motorway speeds. Using something it calls 'TherMaS' - a compact, propane-based heat pump refrigeration circuit, rather than a pricey Scandinavian spa treatment – the German engineers have been able to extend range through heat management efficiency. You might like The results? At a nippy -7°C, you get 15 per cent more range compared to current systems. At a nose-freezing -25°C, you're looking at up to 30 per cent more – which sounds pretty game-changing if you're based in the Arctic Circle. The multi-tasking design uses the inspirational 'X-in-1' (akin to your favourite shampoo) but by utilising power supply and battery for different things, there are fewer components contributing to those lightweighting gains. New innovations to the gearing, inverter and converter which among other attributes enable bi-directional charging, too. Advertisement - Page continues below ZF also acknowledges that there's still a place for hybrids – set to be around for a few more years than first expected – so it has upgraded its eight-speed automatic transmission to be deployed in any kind of hybrid, not just mild and plug-in as it once was. Plus, there's that new generation of range extenders it's been working, too. Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. Look out for your regular round-up of news, reviews and offers in your inbox.
