Snoop Dogg Reacts To Donald Trump Performance Backlash

Buzz Feed15-05-2025

Snoop Dogg is once again explaining his decision to perform at an inauguration event for Donald Trump.
If you recall, in January, Snoop performed at a Crypto Ball, hosted by Trump's crypto czar David Sacks, to celebrate the incoming administration. He faced swift and immediate backlash, with tons of fans calling him out on social media and thousands reportedly unfollowing him.
It appeared to be a major turn in opinion for Snoop, who had once been one of Trump's most vocal critics. He'd notably refused to vote for him in 2016 and said those who supported him in 2020 were "stupid motherfuckers."
At the time, Snoop briefly addressed the backlash in an Instagram video, saying people needed to "stop worrying" about him, and he further addressed the backlash this week on The Breakfast Club.
When asked if he was bothered by the criticism he received, Snoop said no, because, in his mind, he did it for a good cause. "I DJed at the Crypto Ball for what, 30 minutes?" he said. "Made a whole bunch of money, made a lot of relationships to help out the inner city and the community, and teach financial literacy and crypto in a space that it don't exist. That's 30 minutes. [For] 30 years, Snoop Dogg been doing great things for the community, building, showing up, standing up for the people, making it happen, being all I can be."
He also clarified that he didn't endorse Trump. "Even if I would have done it for him and hung out with him and took a picture with him, can't none of you motherfuckers tell me what I can and can't do," he continued. "But I'm not a politician. I don't represent the Republican Party. I don't represent the Democratic Party. I represent the motherfucking Gangster Party period point blank, and G shit we don't explain shit so that's why I didn't explain. That's why I didn't go into detail when motherfuckers was trying to cancel me and say he a sellout."
Snoop then shared more of the direct comments he received on Instagram at the time. He said, "I would post shit and I see motherfuckers like, 'Oh he a sellout.' You know what I would do? Jump right in their DM with a video, 'You bitch ass [N-word]. What's happening, [N-word], I'm Snoop Dogg, [N-word], what you want to do?' And guess what they would do? 'Oh, man, I'm just a fan man. I'm sorry.' Yeah [N-word], you got me fucked up. [N-word], I jump all off in your shit [N-word] and talk to you face to face."
Snoop said, "The things that I do in real life should matter to you more, not what I do when I'm DJing or making music or doing this and that." He added the question should be, "What is he like as a real person?"
Well, okay! You can listen to the interview below, and tell me what you think of his remarks in the comments.

South Korea's Ruling Party Unveils Plan to Allow Stablecoins

(Bloomberg) -- South Korea's new President, Lee Jae-myung, is moving quickly to deliver on his campaign pledge to allow local companies to issue stablecoins, giving a further boost to one of the world's most active digital-asset markets. US Housing Agency Vulnerable to Fraud After DOGE Cuts, Documents Warn Lee, a progressive leader who defeated his conservative rival in last week's presidential election, has been a vocal proponent of stablecoin adoption. On Tuesday, Lee's ruling Democratic Party proposed Digital Asset Basic Act, aimed at improving transparency and encouraging competition in the crypto sector. Under the act, South Korean companies can issue stablecoins if they have at least 500 million won ($367,876) in equity capital while ensuring that refunds are guaranteed through reserves. South Korea is already a hotbed for crypto activity. More than a third of the population, or around 18 million people, participate in digital-asset markets. On some days, trading volume on local crypto exchanges surpasses turnover on the Kospi and Kosdaq stock indexes. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to another asset, typically the US dollar. They are gaining global momentum as regulatory frameworks develop. In the US, Congress is set to vote Wednesday on key stablecoin legislation, and President Donald Trump has identified the sector as a policy priority via executive order. South Korea's act also stipulates asset-linked digital assets, including stablecoins, must be approved by the Financial Services Commission, a text of the act released by the ruling party said. Stablecoin trading is surging in South Korea. Transactions involving USDT, USDC and USDS on five major domestic exchanges reached 57 trillion won in the first quarter, Yonhap News reported, citing Bank of Korea data. Still, Lee's initiative is facing some resistance from the central bank. Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Chang-yong warned last month that stablecoins issued by non-bank entities could weaken the effectiveness of monetary policy. He argued that the central bank should take the lead in regulating a won-pegged stablecoin. Shares of KakaoPay Corp. jumped as much as 18% on Tuesday, the highest since January 2024, on expectations Lee's administration will back a won-based stablecoin. Still, some analysts are cautious. 'The rally in Kakao-related shares is fundamentally unjustifiable, as any concrete benefit from Lee's stablecoin policy remains uncertain,' JPMorgan analysts Stanley Yang and Jihyun Cho wrote in a note. South Korea continues to bear the scars of the TerraUSD collapse in 2022, which wiped out $40 billion in value and remains a cautionary tale as the country re-engages with stablecoins. Snoop Dogg Shouts Out Dr. Dre & Calls Wife Shante Broadus His ‘Rock' While Accepting Ultimate Icon at the 2025 BET Awards

At Monday's (June 9) 2025 BET Awards, Snoop Dogg stood at the mountaintop while accepting the Ultimate Icon Award with his wife and Dr. Dre at his side while looking out into a room of some of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop. Coming toward the end of the show, Dre kicked off the Snoop tribute by giving a speech that both praised his frequent collaborator — whom he called 'one of the most prolific artists in hip-hop' — and lovingly joked at his expense. 'Every time I turn on the TV, he's trying to sell something,' the producer quipped as Snoop laughed in the audience. Most of the rest of Snoop's speech — for which he was joined onstage by wife Shante Broadus, to whom he's been married since 1997 — struck a more serious tone. Shouting out his teachers, all of the 'MCs I battled along the way,' his family at Death Row Records and former groupmates Warren G and the late Nate Dogg, Snoop also praised his children and 10 grandchildren — 'my greatest inspiration,' as he called them — as well as his 'beautiful wife.' 'This is why I'm so rock solid,' he said, referring to Broadus. 'This is why I'm able to deal with all the things I'm able to deal with — when I've got God in my life and I've got a queen in my life. She's always been my everything.' Before switching gears to perform some of his most iconic songs, the rapper ended his remarks by sharing his ideas of what the title of Icon means to him. 'The work speaks for you,' he told the crowd gathered at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. 'Hip-hop, it gave me a voice. It gave me a purpose. It gave me a way out and a way in … Being an icon, it ain't about fame. It's about legacy. It's about what you build, what you leave behind and who you lift up along the way.' Snoop was one of four artists presented with an Ultimate Icon Award on Monday night. Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Kirk Franklin — each of whom the Doggfather personally shouted out during his speech — also took home the same honor, making for emotional moments throughout the four-hour ceremony. After a quick commercial break, Snoop sealed his Ultimate Icon status by delivering a high-energy medley of his hits, including 'Unsung Heroes,' Billboard Hot 100 topper 'Drop It Like It's Hot' and 'Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang.' A few familiar faces also joined him, his backup dancers and his accompanying orchestra on stage, with Charlie Wilson helping to perform The Gap Band's 'Outstanding,' and Warren G and Kurupt assisting in closing out the medley with 'Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None).' The BET Awards were hosted this year by Kevin Hart and honored some of 2025's biggest feats in pop culture. Kendrick Lamar — who took home album of the year for GNX along with four other prizes — was the top nominee, earning 10 nods. The presentation of Ultimate Icon to Snoop follows more than 30 years of climbing his way up the hip-hop ranks, notching 45 entries on the Hot 100 and three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 in the process. He's also paved the way as a media personality and as the now-owner of his first label home, Death Row Records, which he acquired in 2022. Snoop's latest album, Iz It a Crime?, dropped May 15.
