Trade union leaders call for a united strike on May 20
Visakhapatnam: Listing several demands, all trade union leaders issued a notice to the management of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) informing that they are going on a strike on May 20.
They emphasised that they are going on a strike to bring in long pending issues of the plant to the management's notice, appeal to look into them and resolve them at the earliest.
Withdrawing strategic sale of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, allotting captive mines to the plant and merging RINL with SAIL along with ensuring raw materials before starting blast furnace-3 topped the demand list.
The other demands include reinstating contract workers who were removed from the service, implementing new wages, paying complete salary every month, restoring HRA with retrospective effect, restoring welfare measures which were stopped by the management and providing employment for displaced family members.
Union leaders of AITUC, INTUC, CITU, YSRTUC, VSEU, among other units mentioned that the demand is also to stop privatisation of public sector undertakings, scrap National Monetization Pipeline (NMP), amend existing law on mining of minerals and metals and ensure 50 percent share of profit from mines, including coal mines for upliftment of local communities, especially Adivasis and farmers.
In addition, appeal to stop unilateral decisions on workers' or work-related issues, no termination of employment of contract workers as being done in various establishments including RINL, restoration of old pension scheme and scrapping of NPS and UPS, removal of all ceilings on payment and eligibility of bonus, PF and gratuity forms a part of the demand list.
The strike will continue from 6 am on May 20 to 6 am on May 21.

CITU national meet to be held in December in Vizag
Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) 18th national meeting would be held at the Andhra University Convention Centre from December 31, 2025 to January 4, 2026. Speaking to media persons at the Alluru Vignana Kendram here on Sunday, CITU national treasurer Sai Babu said 1,300 delegates of the CITU will participate in the meeting. The policies of NDA are favouring the multi-national companies and corporates and the working class should unite to oppose them, he said. Mr. Babu said that the CITU has been on the forefront of taking up issues concerning the working class and ongoing agitation against the proposed move to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is an indication to it. He said the CITU has its presence across the nation and has opposed the anti-worker policies of the governments. He appealed to the working class to make the proposed general strike on July 9 a success. He alleged that the sectors that contribute to the GDP of the country have been hit hard and lakhs of vacancies in railway and defence sectors are not being filled. He further alleged that some State governments are trying to implement the Labour Code which had not come into existence yet. CITU State general secretary Ch. Narasing Rao said that the privatisation of VSP has been stopped because of the agitations of the CITU and the Centre is trying to suppress the agitation by appointing persons with RSS background as its CMD. Meanwhile, the CITU appointed Ch Narasing Rao as the event invitation committee chairman and R.V.S. Kumar as general secretary and A.V. Nageswara Rao as the treasurer.

Ukku agitators to donate blood to save VSP from privatisation
Visakhapatnam: Every employee should donate blood to protect Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) from getting privatised on June 14, called out Steel CITU honorary president J Ayodhya Ramu. Unveiling a poster for the blood donation camp here on Friday, Ayodhya Ramu mentioned that for the past 1,600 days, trade unions have been fighting against the 100 percent strategic sale of the VSP and appealing the Centre to change its decision on it. But the government is taking steps to privatise the plant, taking the lives of the workers for granted, he pointed out. It is time for the working class to unite and donate their blood and bring their prob-lems to the attention of the Central government, he mentioned that the recent financial package of Rs.11,440 crore given by the Centre was just an eye wash. The Steel CITU honorary president appealed to the employees and workers to participate in the blood donation camp and extend support to the agitation. Speaking on the occasion, blood donation camp organiser B Apparao explained, 'Through blood donation camps made in the past seven years, we have been able to meet the blood needs of several pa-tients.' He informed that the camp will be organised at Ambedkar Kalakshetram, Ukkunagaram (CWC-1) on the occasion of the World Blood Donation Day on June 14. Steel CITU president YT Das stated that steel workers have already been recognised for donating blood several times. Steel CITU leaders P Srinivasa Raju, K Gangadhar, V Prasad, VDV Poornachandra Rao, Srinivas and Suribabu were present.

Time to ‘retire lame horse'—Rahul Gandhi hints at massive revamp of MP Congress unit
Referring to an earlier address to the Gujarat Congress, Rahul said, 'Earlier I had mentioned two horses, but we all know there is a third kind of horse.' 'But they shouldn't trouble others. Otherwise, they will have to face disciplinary action,' he told party workers in Bhopal's Ravindra Bhawan during a day-long visit to the city to kickstart a campaign to revive the state organisation. Bhopal: Signalling a major overhaul of the beleaguered Madhya Pradesh Congress, senior leader Rahul Gandhi used a metaphor on Wednesday to outline his revival plan. Taking a swipe at the party's old guard, which has dominated the party for decades, he said, 'There are three types of horses: A race horse, a wedding horse and a lame horse. The race horse will be put in the race, the wedding horse in a wedding and the lame one needs to be asked to retire.'
