Djeidi Gassama will get Rangers fans on the edge of their seats

Rhyl Journal13 hours ago
The former Paris St Germain player has agreed a four-year contract.
Gassama, 21, made one appearance for the French side alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe before joining Wednesday in 2023 and scored 12 goals in 84 games for the Owls.
The France Under-20 international has now moved to Glasgow for an undisclosed fee, understood to be about £2.2million.
💙 Welcome to Rangers, Djeidi Gassama.
— Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) July 15, 2025
Martin told Rangers' website: 'We are very excited to bring Djeidi to the club. He is certainly an exciting player who will get supporters on the edge of their seats and I believe he will add an extra dimension to our attack with his qualities.
'He is hungry to improve as a player and, most importantly, is desperate to pull on the Rangers jersey and help deliver success to the club.'
Gassama added: 'I am very excited to start with my new club, it is a club with a lot of history and I am very happy. This is a big club, and I need that for my next level and I think it can help me progress.'
Gassama had the best of tuition as an up-and-coming player.
He trained at PSG alongside world superstars Messi, Mbappe and Neymar and he believes that has stood him in good stead for his football journey, which continues in Glasgow.
He said: 'I started playing when I was young and then I played for the under-19's at PSG and made my debut.
'It was crazy to be in a team with players like Messi, Mbappe, Neymar.
'It was a good experience for me to train with them, I learned a lot of things about the gym, what they do on and off the pitch.
'They give 100 per cent and when you see them, you have to do the same and even the training with them is like a game.
'The last two years moving to Sheffield, they gave me a good progression and a good experience in English football.
'I took my chance and now I am here and I think I can continue to improve here.'

This is your Scottish football transfer news with all the latest rumours on Wednesday morning, including Rangers, Celtic, Dundee United and the Scotland national team. Dundee United agree deal Dundee United have confirmed their sixth signing of the summer with the arrival of centre-back Krisztián Keresztes. The 6ft 5in defender will move to Tannadice on a season-long loan deal from Hungarian top-flight club Nyíregyháza Spartacus, with the 25-year-old making his debut for the club immediately in last night's 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "He has an ideal physical profile to thrive in the Scottish Premiership,' said head coach Jim Goodwin. 'He stands at a colossal six-foot-five and has the mobility to cover ground quickly, step into midfield and recover on the transition. The statistics also underline his dominance in the air - a vital asset given the importance of both attacking and defensive set-pieces in this division. Beyond his physical attributes, he reads the game exceptionally well, often positioning himself ahead of danger rather than reacting to it. That anticipation, combined with his track record of success in leadership roles, will bring added authority to our defensive unit." Dundee United Manager Jim Goodwin | SNS Group Celtic exit confirmed Celtic youngster Lenny Agbaire has ended his decade long-association at Parkhead after completing a move to Rotherham United. The 20-year-old centre-back spent last season on loan at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, making 16 league appearances for Scott Brown's side, and played a key role in Celtic's triumph in the Scottish FA Youth Cup back in 2023. Despite being with the club since the age of 10, Agbaire did not make an appearance for the Hoops first team after signing his professional first contract with the club in 2021. The defender arrives at the New York Stadium on a deal until the summer of 2028 ahead of their upcoming EFL League One campaign. Lenny Agbaire has left Celtic after a decade at Parkhead. Villa 'consider' McGinn U-turn Scotland international midfielder John McGinn has been linked with a potential exit from Aston Villa again this week, after it was claimed the Midlands outfit were considering laucnhing a £50million bid for Atletico Madrid and England midfielder Conor Gallagher. The 30-year-old has rumoured interest from Everton this summer, with manager David Moyes said to been on a deal for the Scottish star, though the early indications were that Villa would not entertain any bids for their popular captain. The report claims Villa could 'perform a U-turn' on McGinn should they strike up a deal for the Three Lions star, with Everton still hopeful of tempting the ex-Hibs midfielder to The Hill Dickinson Stadium. They add that any move for the Gallagher will 'clear a path' for the Toffees to launch a new bid for McGinn, providing they have not moved on to other transfer targets before that opportunity arises. The 21-year-old centre-back played 11 league games for the club after arriving on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer, but has been unable to solidify a first team spot in Govan and will be allowed to leave the club this summer if a suitable offer comes in. 'I think Clinton's at a point in his at his age and his career, he needs to play all the time and every week,' said Martin last week. "He's trained really, really well. But I think it's, rather playing some part of the squad, a bit like last season, he's at a point now where he needs to go and play football and he's the best way to learn." This has alerted both Belgian Pro League sides Zulte Waregem and Westerlo, with a report from the Daily Record stating both are considering making a loan offer for Nsiala. Elsewhere, former Rangers youngster Jay Hogarth has been handed a trial by NIFL Premiership outfit Glentoran following his release from Ibrox this summer. As reported by the Belfast News Letter, the 21-year-old is hoping to earn himself a deal at The Oval after featuring in Tuesday's pre-season friendly against Dundela, where he played the final 30 minutes of their 4-2 win. The 21-year-old Italian youth international has been linked with a loan switch this summer, with the Scottish champions keen to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. A deal for Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada is thought to edging closer to completion, but Cremonese appear to have moved ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Ambrosino. Neapolitan outlet Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno claims the player do not appear to fit into Antonio Conte's technical plans, and will be allowed to leave the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. As per the report, a meeting has now been scheduled with newly promoted Cremonese regarding the signing of the striker, with Napoli keen to 'clean up' their squad ahead of the upcoming Serie A campaign.

Craig Gordon has provided a positive injury update ahead of his testimonial match later this month against former club Sunderland at Tynecastle. The newly promoted English Premier League side will travel to Edinburgh to honour the Scotland keeper who spent five seasons with them as a player between 2007 and 2012. The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 26 and will not only be an opportunity to celebrate the legendary stopper's career but also give Derek McInnes one final opportunity to see his players in action before the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership season gets underway. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Gordon has been unable to feature in Hearts' opening Premier Sports Cup group stage matches against Dunfermline Athletic and Hamilton Accies as he recovers from a shoulder injury which kept him out of the final three league matches of last season. Head coach McInnes previously confirmed he did not expect the 42-year old to be fit in time to play any part in the opening League Cup matches and that his realistic goal was to be ready to play some part in his testimonial match. Craig Gordon hoping to play some part in Hearts vs Sunderland testimonial match Speaking as a guest on 'Ha'way the podcast', a Sunderland AFC podcast produced by the team at Roker Report, Gordon has provided a seemingly positive update on his status ahead of that match. The five time Scottish Premiership winner revealed he does expect to be able to play some part in proceedings but is not sure how much game time he will manage yet. He said: "It's going to be tight, it's going to be close. I think I'll be okay to play some part in the match. I don't think I'll play 90 minutes but I'm definitely looking to try and get on the pitch at some point. 'Hopefully I'll get on, potentially in the second half, but I'll need to see closer to the time how things are going. I'm stepping up the rehab day by day at the moment so I'll just wait and see where I am when the game comes around." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts vs Sunderland tickets still available Gordon added: 'It's probably only now, looking back, having this testimonial and starting to look back with people putting footage together and old photos. When you're young and making your way in your career it's always about the next things. It's about striving to get better, to improve, to get the next move or the next contract and you're always looking to get something in the future. 'It's something I've not really done till now, to look back and think of the past, until it all got displayed in front of me and I sat down and looked at it and thought 'wow, how did that all happen?'' Tickets for the match are still available at the official Hearts website and are priced at £20 for adults, £15 for concessions (over 65s for people in full time education) and £5 for under 13s.

Florian Wirtz about to answer key Jurgen Klopp question after 'insane' Liverpool decision

Florian Wirtz missed Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Preston North End but fans have now been given their first glimpse of the £116million signing with his new team-mates Florian Wirtz has been pictured training for the first time since Liverpool shattered the British transfer record to sign him. Wirtz, 22, moved to Anfield last month after Liverpool reached a £116million agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, beating both Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature. ‌ The Reds have agreed to pay an initial £100m plus £16m in potential add-ons. Wirtz put pen to paper on a five-year contract and has a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders thanks to his price tag. ‌ Fans had hoped to see the playmaker during Sunday's pre-season friendly against Preston North End. But unlike Liverpool's other new signings - Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Freddie Woodman - Wirtz didn't feature in the 3-1 victory in order to manage his fitness after he played for Germany in the Nations League last month. ‌ When he does eventually make his bow in a red shirt, it'll be interesting to see where he fits in. Liverpool romped to the Premier League title during Arne Slot's first season as manager and improving their starting lineup is a tall order. Jurgen Klopp believes that Wirtz is good enough to break into Slot's first XI but just where he'll do that is a mystery to him. Asked whether the former Leverkusen star will be able to establish himself on Merseyside, Klopp replied: "Yes, although of course I don't know exactly which position Arne has in mind for Florian. "He's an outstanding player who can give any club something great. Whether he'll make the reigning English champions even better remains to be seen." ‌ Wirtz was seen smiling at Liverpool's AXA Training Centre in Kirkby on Tuesday, the first time that he's been spotted with his new team-mates. The 22-year-old already knows Frimpong, who he played alongside at Leverkusen. Liverpool will jet off for their pre-season tour of Asia next week, with Wirtz expected to be on the plane ahead of clashes with AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos. That's before Slot's squad face Athletic Bilbao in two fixtures on the same night back at Anfield next month. ‌ Wirtz's competitive debut is likely to come against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Saturday, August 10. The Germany international will have the spotlight on him after Klopp labelled his fee 'insane'. "There's no question about it, that's an insane sum," the former Reds boss admitted. "We all agree that we're talking about a great player here. I know I once said that I'm out if we pay 100m euros for a player. "But the world keeps changing. That is how the market is. My part of football will always remain the game itself, but if you want to play at the top level, you can't train all your players yourself. Sometimes you need to get hold [of players from] somewhere else."
