Xabi Alonso arrival having major impact on Rodrygo Goes amid Arsenal interest
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes seemed destined to be the odd one out at the club this summer, with Los Blancos prioritising the form of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. Their activity in the transfer market would also suggest that Rodrygo is not a central part of their thinking, but Xabi Alonso's arrival could alter the situation.
Rodrygo was one of just five senior players that began with Alonso on his first day of training, and on the second day, there appeared to be a clear change in his mood. The Brazilian posted in capitals 'HAPPY' on his social media pages, with pictures of him training.
As per Marca, Alonso has been paying special attention to Rodrygo early on, and one of his tasks is to get the 24-year-old back to his best form. He did not play the final month of the season due to a much questioned fever, and was left out of the Brazil squad earlier this month.

The Madrid-based daily say that unless there is a surprise shift, Rodrygo will continue at the club. Meanwhile Sport had that the initial conversations with Alonso and early training sessions have convinced Rodrygo to stay at the club, after doubts about his role in the team.

Arsenal interest in Rodrygo
Arsenal hold an interest in Rodrygo, and Mikel Arteta is keen on a move for him. However they have not yet made a move for the Real Madrid forward, and the suggestion is that they will not break the bank for him. Price tags between €70m and €100m for Rodrygo have been discussed as acceptable for Los Blancos.
Rodrygo's role at Real Madrid
While relations with Alonso may have improved matters, ultimately it remains to be seen what kind of role he has on the pitch. Most of the projections for Alonso's preferred team do not have space for Rodrygo, and he is planning for a starting XI with Franco Mastantuono on the right. If Rodrygo is not a key part of the side, it would be a surprise if he were willing to accept a reduced role.

A sporting icon courted by prime ministers past and present, newly knighted Sir David Beckham is renowned for being extremely media savvy. Never more so than when I interviewed him for Sky News at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after he took part in the closing ceremony having played a key role in London's winning bid to host the 2012 Games. Speaking about Sir Alex Ferguson in the interview, canny Sir Becks heaped praise on his old boss in our interview. But he'd been less complimentary about his old boss in a conversation with prime minister , I later learned. I'd travelled to Beijing with Mr Brown, via Afghanistan, and we spent the final evening of the Games at the handover party, when - then London mayor - famously spoke in his speech about "wiff waff" (table tennis) coming home. Why thousands of NCAA athletes might wait over a year for share of $2.8 billion settlement
The attorney who negotiated the $2.8 billion legal settlement for the NCAA said Friday that thousands of former athletes due to receive damages could have to wait months or maybe more than a year to get paid while appeals play out. Rakesh Kilaru, who served as the NCAA's lead counsel for the House settlement that was approved last week, told The Associated Press an appeal on Title IX grounds filed this week will hold up payments due to around 390,000 athletes who signed on to the class-action settlement. He said he has seen appeals take up to 18 months in the California-based federal court where this case is playing out, though that isn't necessarily what he expects. 'I will say that we, and I'm sure the plaintiffs, are going to push,' Kilaru said. A schedule filed this week calls for briefs related to the appeal to be filed by Oct. 3. Kilaru doesn't expect anyone on the defendant or plaintiff side to file for extensions in the case 'because every day the appeal goes on is a day damages don't go to the student-athletes.' He said while the appeal is ongoing, the NCAA will pay the money into a fund that will be ready to go when needed. The other critical parts of the settlement -- the part that allows each school to share up to $20.5 million in revenue with current players and set up an enforcement arm to regulate it -- are in effect regardless of appeals. 'I think everyone thought it was important and good for this new structure to start working because it does have a lot of benefits for students,' Kilaru said. 'But it's very common for damages to be delayed in this way for the simple reason that you don't want to make payments to people that you can't recover' if the appeal is successful. A group of eight female athletes filed the appeal. Their attorney, Ashlyn Hare, said they supported settlement of the case 'but not an inaccurate one that violates federal law.' "The calculation of past damages is based on an error that ignores Title IX and deprives female athletes of $1.1 billion,' Hare said. Kilaru agreed with plaintiff attorneys who have argued that Title IX violations are outside the scope of the lawsuit. Other objections to the settlement came from athletes who said they were damaged by roster limits set by the terms. One attorney representing a group of those objectors, Steven Molo, said they were reviewing Wilken's decision and exploring options.
