Jobless man charged with wife's murder faces additional arson charges
MUAR: An unemployed man charged earlier with murdering his wife was brought before the Sessions Court here today to face additional charges of mischief by setting fire to nine vehicles belonging to his wife and brother-in-law.
Mohamad Khairul Azmi Ithnin, 32, pleaded guilty to six of the nine charges read before Judge Sayani Mohd Nor.
He admitted to the first and fifth through ninth charges involving the arson of six vehicles comprising two four-wheel drives, two motorcycles, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a car.
The offences were committed in Kampung Pengkalan Kota, Durian Chondong and Kebun Durian Kampung Teratai 2, Sagil between 4.36am and 6.46am on June 3.
For the second to fourth charges, which involve the burning of two motorcycles and a car in Kampung Pengkalan Kota on the same date and time, the accused pleaded not guilty.
All charges fall under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries the maximum sentence of 14 years in jail and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
The prosecution requested a new date for mention of all charges and informed the court that no bail would be offered as the accused also faces a separate murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, filed at the magistrate's court in Tangkak earlier today.
The court fixed July 9 for sentencing for the charges to which he pleaded guilty, and for document submission and appointment of lawyers for the remaining charges.
Earlier, Khairul was charged in the magistrate's court with murdering his 34-year-old wife, Iecah Junus, by slashing her neck with a vegetable knife.

RM193,000 gone: Woman pensioner falls victim to phone scam

'The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,' he added.

Norjuma fined RM4,800 for damaging condominium boom gate, CCTV
KUALA LUMPUR: Former television personality Norjuma Habib Mohamed was fined RM4,800 by the Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to two counts of mischief by damaging a boom gate and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at a condominium, two years ago. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan meted out the punishment after Norjuma, 45, changed her plea to guilty today and ordered her to serve five months in prison if she failed to pay the fine. Norjuma paid the fine. She was charged with committing mischief by damaging a boom gate and the CCTV belonging to the Sastra U-Thant Condominium, Wangsa Maju here at 7.44 pm and 7.45 pm on July 28, 2023, causing a total loss of RM4,700. The charges were framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum prison sentence of one year and a maximum of five years or a fine or both, if convicted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence, considering the losses incurred by the condominium. However, lawyer Faiz Kamal Jaafar, representing Norjuma, requested a fine instead, on the grounds that his client's unemployment and remorse. 'My client is currently pursuing her studies at a local higher education institution (IPT) and is financially supported by her father, a government pensioner,' he stated.
