Home Minister launches ‘Mane Manege Police' to promote people-friendly policing in Karnataka
Dr. Parameshwara described the initiative as the first of its kind in the country and emphasised that it would help build a sense of brotherhood and trust between the public and the police.
'Let's go to people's doorsteps and listen to their problems. When we solve their issues, they will begin to form a positive opinion about the department,' he told police officers during the launch.
As part of the initiative, beat officers at every police station across the State are required to visit homes within their jurisdiction, interact with residents, gather details about their neighbourhoods, and note any law and order concerns they may have.
The officers are expected to record the data collected during these visits, enabling the police to gain a deeper, real-time understanding of their jurisdiction.
Although the Home Minister officially launched the programme on Friday, implementation had already begun at the field level.
Dr. Parameshwara said that the initiative would be periodically reviewed and necessary changes would be made based on its effectiveness.

"They function like a task force. They act based on wherever the information comes from. We have already given specific instructions to every Superintendent of Police," said the minister. He also added that to make it even stronger, personnel from Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have been transferred to ANTF. "We have declared that there are no more Naxals in Karnataka. In that context, there was a discussion on disbanding the ANF. However, we decided to retain it and reduce the number of personnel. About 200 to 250 personnel were taken from ANF to the Special Action Force. We had taken them for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Now, since there was a staff shortage in Bengaluru, a few were taken from ANF. If there is a need again, we will redeploy personnel." He also said the report of the statewide survey of Scheduled Castes (SC), overseen by Justice Nagamohan Das Commission, will be submitted to the Chief Minister on Monday. "After that, the government will act based on the contents of the report. We undertook this with the intention of ensuring internal reservation, and we will implement it," said the minister.

Internal quota: Parameshwara appeals to groups to not protest
Home Minister G. Parameshwara here on Sunday said that the Congress government was committed to implementing internal reservation for Scheduled Caste communities in the State and appealed to those threatening to stage protest seeking implementation of it to not do so. 'We had made the declaration on internal reservation in Chitradurga and we have also committed to it in our manifesto. Whatever we need to do should be done according to the procedure and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. We are committed to implementing internal reservation; procedures have to be followed for which we need some time,' he told presspersons. His statement comes in the light of Dalit left (Madigas) groups threatening a protest from August 11. Dalit left leaders from the BJP, including Govind Karjol and A. Narayanaswamy, have also made such a threat. The Minister said that the commission, headed by retired judge H.N. Nagamohan Das, would submit its report to the government on August 4. It would discussed in the State Cabinet and steps would be taken to implement the recommendations. The A.J. Sadashiva Commission report was not accepted by the then BJP government because of data issues. On the meeting of Ministers from the Scheduled Caste community that he had convened, Dr. Parameshwara said that it was decided to have a common voice on the internal reservation. 'If there are any issues with communities, it was decided to talk to them.'

Bengaluru: With the Justice HN Nagamohandas commission set to submit its report on internal reservation for scheduled castes (SCs), senior dalit functionaries of Congress, including ministers and legislators, have resolved to remain united and avoid infighting over expected discrepancies in the caste-wise data. Home minister G Parameshwara, who chaired a closed-door meeting with SC ministers and legislators at his Sadashivanagar residence in the city Saturday, said the participants agreed to prioritise long-delayed quota reforms over internal differences. "We have been waiting for the internal reservation for many years. If there are conflicts about the report, it may lead to further delays. So, we have decided to stay together by ignoring small differences," he added.
