Certain quarters trying to pit me against Zahid, says Tok Mat
PETALING JAYA : Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan claims certain quarters are trying to create friction between him and party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking at the Ledang Umno division meeting today, the foreign minister said he was not swayed by the attempts to pit him against Zahid, Berita Harian reported.
Without naming anyone, he said these attempts were likely meant to undermine the party.
'Some people are trying to drive a wedge between me and the Umno president.
'I just smile because these people cannot be trusted, especially since they've also spoken badly about the president.
'I don't even know what they might be saying behind my back,' he was quoted as saying.
According to Mohamad, being the party's number two was no easy task, as the role comes with the heavy responsibility of supporting the president.
He said Umno's focus now must be to serve the people and to champion the interests of race and religion.
'The party must always come first. If we win, we win as one. If we lose, we all go down together as well.
'There will definitely be those who will abandon the party when we lose. So, my only hope is that members will remain loyal to the party,' he said.

Ahmad Zahid warns Umno members against ‘crabs in a bucket' mentality
SEGAMAT: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded the leadership and members to stay away from the culture of putting each other down which is not beneficial to the party. Comparing the action to 'crabs in a bucket', he said all members should instead work together to strengthen the party's internal security for the survival of the party ahead of the upcoming 16th general election (GE16). 'Don't be like crabs in a bucket... all the crabs want to get out, but step on the others so that they can climb up. 'In the end, not a single one comes out, all die in the bucket. Why are we dying in a bucket because we trampled on each other?,' he said at the closing of the Segamat Umno Division Delegates Meeting at the Taman Yayasan Multipurpose Hall, here today. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, stressed that the culture of pointing fingers and assuming that only one is right will only break the people's confidence in Umno. 'Any differences of opinion among members must be expressed in a civilized and ethical manner, especially when discussing internal party issues. 'If today we are small leaders, God willing one day we can become big leaders, but if we are rude to others today, when we rise, more people will be rude to us,' he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, also called on the entire Umno machinery to remain focused on efforts to strengthen unity among the grassroots and not make differences of opinion a cause for division. Also present were Johor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Segamat Umno Division chief Datuk Zahari Sarip. - Bernama

Umno Tangga Batu division seeks mandate to contest parliamentary seat
MELAKA: The Umno Tangga Batu Division today approved a motion for the party to be given the mandate to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat in the next general election. Its leader Datuk Rais Yasin said taking into account the history and composition of the voters, Umno is seen as having a bright chance to reclaim the seat currently held by a Perikatan Nasional representative. 'We appeal for the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat to be returned to Umno. This request is relevant based on the demographics of Tangga Batu parliamentary voters, which consist of 85,000 Malay voters out of a total of 120,000 registered voters. 'More uniquely, we have almost 10,000 military voters because this area is home to several main camps, namely Terendak Camp, Para Camp and Sungai Udang Camp. So we hope that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership can see the matter and approve our request,' he said here today. He told reporters after the opening of the Umno Tangga Batu Division Delegates Meeting 2025 by vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani at the Sungai Udang Prison Complex Hall, which was also attended by Melaka Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. In the 15th general election (GE15) in 2022, BN through its candidate Datuk Lim Ban Hong from MCA lost in a five-cornered contest. - Bernama
