Oregon Ducks' QB commitment leads to recruiting dominoes falling in 2026 class
Matt Ponatoski, out of Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, Ohio, was among Oregon's top QB targets in the 2026 class and was considering them as a program within his top four choices. A Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Ohio for both football and baseball, Ponatoski stood in rare air for his accomplishments on both the gridiron and the diamond.
Alongside Beaver at the Elite 11 Finals earlier this month in Los Angeles, Ponatoski received praise from The Athletic's Bruce Feldman for being the CFB analyst's biggest "pleasant surprise" as far as what the Ohio native could do with the ball in his hands.
However, after Beaver's commitment, On3's Steve Wiltfong has logged the Kentucky Wildcats as an expert prediction as a landing spot for the No. 9-ranked signal-caller in the 2026 On300. This shift in Ponatoski's recruitment doesn't come as a surprise, seeing as the Ducks did not plan on taking a pair of quarterbacks in the 2026 class, and thus filled their need for a passer on Wednesday.
Alongside Kentucky, the two-sport star will presumably also consider Alabama and Arkansas, as those two programs were in his previous top four.

Now, as Tottenham Hotspur prepare for a new chapter under Thomas Frank, Johnson finds himself at the heart of it. Speaking to The Athletic, Johnson admitted the significance of last season. 'It's an amazing memory,' he said of lifting the trophy on his 24th birthday. The goal in Bilbao, which secured European silverware and cemented his name in club folklore, may have come with a fortunate bounce off Luke Shaw, but Johnson is adamant: he got the final touch. Yet, his story is not one of triumph alone. 'Last season was like a rollercoaster,' Johnson explained. 'There were so many different emotions. It taught me so much about football. 'On the ball, I want to be better in one-v-one dribbling situations,' he admitted. 'Directness. More of a forward-thinking mentality… trying to get an overall better game.' That pursuit of growth now takes place within a refreshed system. Under Frank, Spurs have operated in a 4-2-3-1 throughout pre-season, with Johnson featuring on both flanks. His rivalry with new £50million signing Mohammed Kudus is likely to shape much of the upcoming campaign. 'I've been really impressed with him,' Johnson said of Kudus, who was one of the Premier League's standout dribblers last season. The Ghanaian adds Champions League experience and is another explosive threat in Spurs' forward line. But Johnson appears unfazed, valuing the depth and competition. 'It is what we need… We want to be in the Champions League every year.' 'It shows what kind of development he can do.' The coaching group, including Justin Cochrane and new IDP coach Cameron Campbell, are also drawing praise. His own journey, from Forest exit to European glory, from social media abuse to fan favourite, continues to evolve. And under Frank, there is a sense he's ready to go again. He is not flashy in the traditional sense, nor always dominant over 90 minutes, but his numbers speak for themselves. He finishes well, works hard, and always seems to pop up at big moments. There's an honesty to Johnson that supporters appreciate. Hearing him reflect on the ups and downs of last season and still frame it as a vital part of his development shows a maturity that bodes well for what's next. The arrival of Mohammed Kudus will add competition, but not necessarily displacement. If anything, the variety in attacking options gives Thomas Frank more freedom to rotate without loss of quality. What's also clear is that Johnson is no longer just a winger. He can float across the front line and now seems to be embracing more responsibility. His ability to score with one touch, link up play and press relentlessly suits Frank's style perfectly. The next step will be improving his one-v-one dribbling and becoming more involved in games from start to finish. If he gets that right, Johnson won't just be part of Spurs' next era, he'll be one of its leading voices.

Oregon Ducks cancel non-conference games vs. future Pac-12 team, per report
The Oregon Ducks will kick off the 2025 college football season in a matter of weeks with a home game against the Montana State Bobcats on August 30. However, they reportedly have made some changes to the upcoming schedule, according to a new report from According to the report, both the Oregon Ducks and Utah State Aggies have mutually agreed to cancel a portion of the non-conference series, originally scheduled for 2027, 2028, and 2029. In both 2027 and 2029, the Ducks were scheduled to host Utah State, currently a member of the Mountain West Conference, at Autzen Stadium for non-conference matchups, while Oregon was expected to travel to Logan, Utah, in 2028 to face the Aggies on the road. When this non-conference series was initially scheduled, Oregon was still a member of the Pac-12 Conference, and the major realignment had not yet taken place. Utah State has also announced that it will be leaving the Mountain West Conference in 2026 and joining the new-look Pac-12 Conference, effective July 1. FBSchedules reports that only the games in 2027 and 2028 have been canceled, and that the 2029 matchup is still currently scheduled to take place in Eugene, though there has been a change in the agreement surrounding that game. "Previously, the two schools were set to exchange $300,000 guarantees for the games in 2027 and 2028, and then Utah State would get $875,000 for the third and final game in Eugene," FBSchedules reports. "Per the contract amendment, the Ducks will now pay the Aggies a $1.2 million guarantee for the game in 2029, which is an increase of $325,000." As conference realignment has changed the landscape of the sport over the past couple of years, this is not the first instance of scheduling changes we've seen from top schools. Earlier this year, the Indiana Hoosiers struck the Virginia Cavaliers from their non-conference schedule in 2027 and 2028 with the aim of lightening their scheduling load going forward in the College Football Playoff era. We will see who the Ducks schedule in the Aggies' place going forward.
