‘We have seen a clear blueprint of how Harry Brook wants this cricket team to run': Coach McCullum on England white-ball captaincy

With six wins in as many matches, including the 3-0 win in ODIs followed by 3-0 win in T20Is over West Indies, 26-year-old England captain Harry Brook has started his white-ball captaincy record with an all-win record. Brook was appointed the England white-ball captain earlier this year and England coach Brendon McCullum has shared how the two series are a 'blueprint of Harry Brook's captaincy'.
'It's been a really good two weeks. Any time you go through a period of transition and change, you have aspirations and hopes on what you can achieve. Sometimes, they happen quick and sometimes they take a long time to embed. But in the last couple of weeks, we have seen a clear blueprint of how Harry Brook wants this cricket team to run and his style of captaincy. That's a real positive,' McCullum told Sky Sports.
England's last world title in white-ball cricket came in the form of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Post that, England have failed to defend the 2023 World Cup title in India, followed by the T20 World Cup in the USA and West indies last year. It also led to the sacking of coach Matthew Mott. Post the Champions Trophy, where the team failed to advance into the semi-finals, Jos Buttler stood down from captaincy, followed by Brook being appointed as England's white-ball captain. When asked about his approach towards Brook's captaincy, McCullum shared how he has let him 'find his way'. 'I have let him (Harry Brook) find his way. He doesn't like to make things complicated. He likes to keep it simple. That's a compliment, it's a great skill. His calmness, his poise, his ability to keep it simple rubs off on other guys. He's also captained a lot of sides growing up, so he's got great friendships with guys who understand how he works. We haven't conquered the world, but we have made a nice start over the last couple of weeks. It's a positive sign,' McCullum added.
England will not play white-ball cricket until September, when they play a series against South Africa and Ireland. The Harry Brook-led England side will also travel to New Zealand to play in an ODI and T20I series. McCullum also talked about how having Jos Buttler in the side helps Brook. 'It's a real positive for Brook and the team to have Jos (Jos Butler) in the ranks and contributing the way he has. He's been outstanding and not just on the pitch but also in the dressing room and around the group. It reminds me a lot of Joe Root when it came to Ben Stokes' Test captaincy. It's a good mark of someone's characteristics,' said the coach.

Sift Kaur Samra Wins Shooting World Cup Bronze In Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions

Top Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra tackled a strong field with aplomb to claim the bronze medal in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF World Cup on Thursday. The 23-year-old Samra, who holds the current world record in women's 50 metre rifle three positions event which she had set while winning the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games, shot 453.1 in the eight-player final. Norway's Jeanette Hegg Duestad won the gold medal with 466.9, while Emely Jaeggi of Switzerland bagged silver with 464.8. In the men's 10m air rifle competition, Ankush Jadhav narrowly missed out on the finals and settled for the 11th place in the qualifications with a total of 631.7 across six series. Umamahesh Maddineni ended seventh with 632.3 but was not eligible to enter the final as he was shooting for ranking points only (RPO). Earlier in the day, Emely was placed ninth in the qualifications of the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event with 590, but made the final as two markswomen among the top eight were shooting for ranking points. Samra, who is from Faridkot, Punjab, was second in the qualifications with a total of 592 across the three stages of kneeling, prone and standing. She won a gold medal at the World Cup in Buenos Aires earlier this year, starting the season on a rousing note after a disappointing campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Poland coach resigns after dispute with star striker Robert Lewandowski

The coach of Poland's national soccer team announced Thursday has resigned as head coach, days after a spat with star striker Robert Lewandowski. I have come to the conclusion that, given the current situation, the best decision for the good of the national team is my resignation from the position of head coach, Michal Probierz said in a statement published by the Polish Football Association. Probierz stripped Barcelona striker Lewandowski of his position as team captain on the eve of a World Cup qualifier against Finland earlier this week, and named Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski as the new captain. Lewandowski reacted by saying he would no longer play for the national team as long as Probierz remains head coach. Poland went on to suffer an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Finland, to put its qualifications hopes into jeopardy. The 36-year-old Lewandowski, who has played a record 158 games for his country and is the leading scorer with 85 goals, is arguably the most outstanding player in the history of Polish soccer. Lewandowski pulled out of last Friday's friendly over Moldova, citing tiredness from a La Liga title-winning season with Barcelona. Probierz, who took over in September 2023 after the disappointing tenure of Fernando Santos, managed to secure qualification for the 2024 European Championship but has since struggled. The Polish Football Association's president, Cezary Kulesza, had summoned Probierz on Wednesday to discuss the matter. I give coaches a lot of freedom, but with that comes responsibility. I expect results, first and foremost," Kulesza said. These were difficult days for the fans of the national team.
