He succeeded PS Sreedharan Pillai in this role. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Raj Bhavan, attended by the state's Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries.
Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, 74, said he would follow the Constitution of India while serving the people. "We all work as a team, and I am very delighted that I am associated with Goans," he said.
Referring to his political career, Gajapathi Raju said he had a short tenure in Parliament. "I have been in and out as a minister in the government and also sat in the opposition. I have wide experience," the governor added.
Pasupati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, 74, belongs from the Pasupati royal family of the Vizianagaram princely state in Andhra Pradesh. He is the younger son of Maharaja Pasupati Vijayarama Gajapathi Raju, also a Parliamentarian.
Pasupati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has served as former Union Minister of Civil Aviation from May 2014 to March 2018. He began his political career in 1978, winning the Vizianagaram Legislative assembly constituency as a Janata Party candidate.
He was also a cabinet minister, Commercial Taxes, in the Government of Andhra Pradesh from 1983 - 1985. Raju contested the Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 2014 and emerged victorious.
Raju later joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), becoming a key figure in the party. He resigned from the party only recently to take up the Governor's position.
Raju is known to have played a significant role in establishing various governmental and non-government educational institutions, particularly as Chairman of MANSAS trust.
He is also interested in public health, water and electricity conservation. He launched schemes for housing, drinking water and health, according to the official website of MANSAS.

Addressing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Members of Parliament (MPs) on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has become the longest-serving incumbent in the ministry, overtaking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran L K Advani. 'It is just the beginning,' the PM said, adding that there is a long way to go for Shah, which led some MPs to speculate the implications of Modi's statement. Shah took charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 30, 2019, and continued as the country's home minister in 2024. On Tuesday, Shah became the longest-serving home minister with a tenure of six years and 66 days. He surpassed Congress' Gobind Ballabh Pant, who was the home minister for 6 years and 65 days between 1955 and 1961. Advani served as home minister for six years and 64 days between 1998 and 2004. Shah became the longest-serving home minister on the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which Parliament repealed on August 5, 2019. Currently, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who turned 74 in July, is number two in the list of Union Council of Ministers, as he was in the first and second Modi-led NDA governments between 2014 and 2024. After the PM, he was the first Cabinet minister to take oath in 2014, 2019 and 2024. During Tuesday's meeting, the MPs felicitated the PM for his "exceptional leadership" in marshalling India's response following the Pahalgam terror attack. A resolution showered praises on the armed forces for their 'unmatched courage' and "unwavering commitment" during Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. Singh garlanded Modi with Shah and Union Minister and BJP president JP Nadda by his side. After the meeting ended, Singh led the MPs from the Parliament Library Building, the venue of the meeting, to Parliament House. At the meeting, the PM said members of the BJP and its allies should together, as part of the ruling combine, participate vigorously in various programmes irrespective of their own strength in various regions. At places, the BJP may not be as strong as some of its allies but everyone should join ranks as NDA members, he said. The sources present in the meeting said the broader message of the prime minister was about maintaining cohesion and coordination in the alliance. Leaders of allies joined the BJP leadership in the front row during the meeting. The BJP and its allies are in power in 19 out of 28 states, and are gearing up to fight the assembly polls in Bihar. The NDA Parliamentary Party meeting was last held on July 2, 2024. At Tuesday's meeting, Modi noted that August 5 was a historic day as Article 370 was abrogated on this day in 2019. The ground-breaking ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was also held on this day in 2020. The NDA resolution passed at the meeting paid tributes to 26 civilians who lost their lives in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam by terrorists linked to Pakistan. It also praised Modi for his leadership. The NDA is yet to announce its vice presidential election for which polling is scheduled for September 9, and the last date for filing of nominations is August 21. The BJP is also set to elect its next president.

'Can't comment on actions of EC': Centre cites 1988 ruling to reject Opposition demands for Bihar SIR debate
NEW DELHI: The Union government has signaled its unwillingness to allow a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, with Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh invoking a 1988 ruling by former Lok Sabha Speaker Balram Jakhar to reject the Opposition's demand. On Tuesday, Harivansh cited Jakhar's December 1988 decision, which barred parliamentary discussion on the functioning or decisions of the Election Commission (EC), stating that the autonomous body's actions cannot be scrutinized in the House. 'You know that I cannot comment upon the actions and decisions of the EC, which is an autonomous body. Never before have I done it, nor will I do it now. Unless you amend the Constitution and bring the EC under parliamentary purview, we cannot discuss its decisions,' Harivansh said, quoting Jakhar's ruling. The Deputy Chairman's remarks came as he dismissed 34 notices submitted by Opposition MPs, most seeking the suspension of business under Rule 267 to urgently debate the SIR in Bihar and other states. Harivansh cited procedural flaws, including incorrect formatting, the sub judice nature of some matters, and the absence of precedent for such discussions. He expressed concern over the frequent misuse of Rule 267, meant for 'rarest of rare' cases, noting that most notices lacked proper citations or pertained to issues outside Parliament's jurisdiction. 'Despite clear rules, some members are using Rule 267 casually, disrupting proceedings when their notices are disallowed,' he said. Highlighting historical data, Harivansh pointed out that very few such notices had been accepted—none between 2000–2004, only four from 2004–2009, one out of 491 during 2009–2014, and just six out of 3,152 between 2014 and the 2025 Budget Session.

Going beyond politics, Karnataka and the Union government should work together to improve Bengaluru's infrastructure, urged Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology. He was delivering a virtual keynote address at the opening of SAP Labs' largest campus in India at Devanahalli here on Tuesday. He said the Union government was committed to working with the State government, despite political differences, to improve the infrastructure condition of the city. Rail connectivity The Minister further said that the government was keen to improve the transportation facility within the city and outside the city. 'We are planning to double the rail connectivity within the city and to the city from outside in the next three years,' he said. Earlier, inaugurating SAP Labs India Innovation Park, on 41 acres of land at Devanahalli, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, 'Both Airport Metro line and suburban rail were being fast tracked to be ready by 2029. He said he was committed to balancing, decentralising, and sustainable growth beyond the core of Bengaluru.' He said that his government was happy to partner with SAP Labs in areas like digital governance, smart cities, skilling, and sustainability to empower MSMEs, and enhance government services in the State. The new SAP facility represented the global enterprise's deep trust in Karnataka's capability, the Chief Minister said. Since 1998, SAP Labs India, headquartered in Bengaluru, has grown to become SAP's largest R&D facility outside Germany. 'As we advance in clean energy, sustainable mobility, and eco-conscious growth, investments like this demonstrate how economic progress and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand,' Mr. Siddaramaiah said. On education and skill development, he said, with an ambitious ₹2,500-crore programme supported by the World Bank, his government was strengthening first-grade colleges, establishing a Centre of Excellence, and enhancing R&D capabilities to build a skilled, future-ready workforce aligned with the demands of advanced technologies. Sindhu Gangadharan, managing director, SAP Labs India and head of customer innovation services, SAP said, 'India's rise as a global technology powerhouse is not just a story of scale — it's a story of ingenuity, resilience, and relentless innovation.'
