Leapmotor embarks on 6,000km Asean expedition to Malaysia
Chinese New Energy Vehicle (NEV) pioneer Leapmotor has embarked on a bold 6,000-kilometre expedition from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, all the way to Johor, Malaysia, showcasing its latest innovations in electric mobility.
The journey, marking Leapmotor's growing presence in the ASEAN region, highlights the brand's commitment to intelligent, efficient and long-range electric vehicles.
Led by the company's latest Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) models, the ASEAN Expedition Drive features three newly developed SUVs: the C10 REEV, the stylish C11 REEV, and the versatile six-seater C16 REEV.
These models, combining high efficiency with advanced technology, are set to make a strong impression on Malaysian roads as they pass through key cities from Penang to Johor during the final stretch of the expedition.
One of the standout vehicles of the journey is the Leapmotor C10 REEV, a completely different offering from the all-electric C10 variant already available locally.
This REEV version features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, functioning as a generator to recharge a 28.4kWh battery pack, and paired with a 158kW electric motor.
The result is a combined driving range of up to 1,150km (NEDC), making the C10 REEV ideal for long-distance travel without compromising on energy efficiency.
The REEV models embarked on a comprehensive 10-day tour across Peninsular Malaysia from 14 to 23 April, visiting authorised Leapmotor showrooms nationwide.
The drive serves not only to demonstrate the vehicles' road capabilities across diverse terrain and climates, but also to introduce Malaysian consumers to the brand's advanced REEV technology and long-range electric driving solutions.
Leapmotor's partnership with global automotive giant Stellantis has further bolstered its credibility and ambitions on the international stage.
With this Asean drive, the brand is reinforcing its readiness to serve regional markets with vehicles that are not only smart and sustainable but also practical for everyday use in Southeast Asia.

Malaysia-Thailand collaboration in agriculture set for major expansion
BANGKOK, May 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is committed to renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Agricultural Cooperation with Thailand, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. He stated that the Malaysia-Thailand MoU, which has been in place for over 50 years, requires a comprehensive review and improvement of most of its terms. Mohamad noted that Malaysia, aims to achieve a higher self-sufficiency level in agricultural production by 2030. This goal is to be realised through a sustainable, resilient, and technology-driven agro-food industry that prioritises food security. "Our discussions today reaffirm the strong and enduring partnership between Malaysia and Thailand in the agriculture sector. "I am encouraged by the shared commitment to deepen our collaboration and address common challenges in food security, sustainable agriculture, and innovation," he said. He also highlighted that Thailand is Malaysia's main trading partner in the agri-food sector and selected agricultural products. "Bilateral agricultural trade between Malaysia and Thailand continued to show positive performance in 2024, with the total trade value of agricultural products reaching RM20.96 billion. "This trade trend highlights the growing potential of food and agricultural product trade and demonstrates significant opportunities for both countries to further elevate the value of agricultural trade," he added. Later, Mohamad officiated the Malaysian Pavilion at the THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2025, Asia's premier food and beverage trade show. PM Anwar to deliver Special Address at Shangri-La Dialogue
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a one-day working visit to Singapore on Saturday to participate in the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue. According to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, Anwar's invitation to the forum—held during Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship this year—reflects international recognition of the country's leadership in promoting regional peace and security. 'The dialogue is an international annual event, serving as platform for leaders and officials to discuss regional and global security challenges,' the ministry said in a statement on Friday. Anwar will deliver the Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). In addition to addressing the region's premier defence summit, Anwar will hold a bilateral meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Both leaders are expected to review the state of Malaysia-Singapore relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. In 2024, Singapore was Malaysia's second-largest trading partner globally and the largest within ASEAN. Bilateral trade increased by 8.9 per cent to RM396.22 billion (US$86.69 billion), representing 13.8 per cent of Malaysia's total trade. Malaysia's exports to Singapore were valued at RM230.86 billion (US$50.53 billion), while imports from Singapore reached RM143.73 billion (US$31.45 billion). The ministry said that as close neighbours and key ASEAN partners, Malaysia and Singapore enjoy robust and multi-faceted cooperation. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Lynas, Kelantan Ink MoU For Mixed Rare Earths Carbonate Supply
KUANTAN, May 30 (Bernama) – Lynas Rare Earths Ltd and the Kelantan state government's investment arm, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the supply of mixed rare earths carbonate (MREC). In a statement today, Lynas said the MoU is non-binding and remains subject to the negotiation and finalisation of definitive agreements. It said the memorandum outlines a framework for both parties to strengthen, promote and develop cooperation to advance the Malaysian rare earths industry in Kelantan. 'It also provides a basis for MB Inc and Lynas to negotiate a definitive agreement for the supply of MREC feedstock to the Lynas Malaysia Advanced Materials Plant in Kuantan once the project commences production,' it added. Lynas Rare Earths chief executive officer and managing director Amanda Lacaze said Malaysia is already recognised as a rare earths centre of excellence through Lynas' operations, and the MoU marks a significant step towards developing locally sourced and separated rare earth products. 'Lynas is delighted to sign this MoU with the Kelantan state government's MB Inc. This is a significant step for Lynas and the Malaysian rare earths industry, bringing together Lynas Malaysia's over a decade of rare earths industry expertise and Kelantan state's rare earth resources,' she said. Lacaze noted that Malaysia's ionic clay deposits have strong potential as future feedstock for Lynas Malaysia, particularly due to the high concentration of heavy rare earths, which are in demand for advanced technologies such as electric vehicles and electronics.
